About the Project

Just a quick project that involves nearly no painting whatsoever

So I don’t really like painting.  I see it as a necessary evil and any opportunity not to have to do any is  a positive bonus

Some years ago I came across paper miniatures. They seemed offer everything I wanted which meant dirt cheap and no painting involved.

Go forward a few years and  https://wofun-games.com/ came on the scene and I knew I had found the promised land. Lovely Peter Denis drawn miniatures and embedded in plexiglass  to make them more sturdy.

So in a moment of madness I ordered the Soldiers of Rome rulebook and a 200pt Roman and Ancient British armies.  Several days later they arrived in  a very funky black box filled to the brim with lovely things

A Beginning

All the figures which are 18mm come on plexi glass sheets which are ready to be punched out and also included are some mdf bases

I also found this picture of a little funky car and caravan as well which I thought you’d all like to see

A Beginning

So to wrap up here’s a  small selection of what came in the box so far. I’m going to be putting maybe a wash on the bare plastic and do something  with the bases but that’s for next time

One final thought

Cost of 2 armies €164

Saving on my sanity  Priceless

Tried giving tbe edges a wash in Agrax like someone on the Wofun Facebook page suggested.  I think it does improve them and will continue

So haven’t touched these in a while. I think I built too many too quickly and got overwhelmed by the amount sitting on the painting desk  but just  recently I have started to get Agrax on the edges of everything I’ve put together so far and even did a bit of basing to see how they looked

I’m quite happy with the way they turned out

Finally getting back to these

Started adding basing material to hide the wood look on the original bases

There are some biggish gaps but I can live with a few showing through

Used vallego basing for the brown bits and slightly drybrushed with a Vallejo tan earth/ Vallejo Deck Tan mix of approx 50/50

Green bits are just a mix of different flick from different companies

Might go back and add a few tufts later

Final bit was to edge the clear plastic with Agrax Eartshade

So we’re making good progress on the British and going to finish them off before beginning on the Romans

Still basing

BUT WAIT !

it’s all come to a screeching halt. I have discovered looking on the Wofun site that they sell alternative bases especially 40x20mm which is pretty much an unofficial standard for ancients gaming.

The bases I have and have been using are 30x20mm

SO…I have messaged Wofun to see if there 40×20 bases will be suitable and will pause the basing until then.

In the meantime those 28mm figures look good. I wonder if they do 60×60 bases?

Nearly a year later

So back at it. Going to see if I can get everything based up and the edges painted on everything I have. All the initial figures I impulsively ripped off the plexiglass is now done. Time for a more measured approach and complete a few bases at a time before doing more.

On the plus side all the chariots are now done

Nearly a year later

Few skirmishers added

So very little left to do now. A few commanders to finish everything off and a picture of all the British/Gaul skirmishers

I’ll get a final photo of both completed sides once I’ve found a surface area big enough

Ballista… Ballista….Ballista…Ballista…Ballista

Sorry.  Reading Harry Sidebottom book again

We’re nearly at the finish now. Just a few more skirmishers and a commander to finish off

These turned out OK. The ballista’s are mdf and to be honest not great. Was thinking about buying some 3D ones but thought I’d finish the figures off as supplied

Next up will be the obligatory army photos and then we’re done

Let the Twanging begin
