Twoflower explores the homemade underhive

About the Project
Twoflower is off on holiday again, and as everyone knows nothing bad can happen on holiday so this year guided by a local ratskin scout and accompanied by his luggage he is touring the unseen depths of the underhive... But first I have to build it. I have always fancied some modular sci fi walls to enhance games such as stargrave, necromunda or even zone mortalis games. But the space they take up and price has always been a problem. My plan is to make a set of walls to fit the necromunda underhive bord sections that will all fit in a smallish box for storage. Due to my upcoming wedding the project has to be as cheap as possible so will be using card and bits of scrap material left over from old projects.

Planning out the sections
Using good old cereal packet card I mocked up some bases for the walls to see the shapes that I would need.
Each wall section will have a square bulkhead that the next wall can go up against or form a corner/end section.
The door sections from the underhive box will need to fit between the bulk head sections.
It turns out that 3 different wall sections will be needed to fill out the table. A short wall section, long wall section and a corner with two short walls.
Cutting out the bases.
This is the boring part of the project.
To make sure the walls butt up against each other properly you have to be relatively exact with the measurements.
I have very little patience and can be quite slapdash with my measurements however the old adage of measure twice cut once swear then do it again came into effect.
I started by cutting the tiles out of cereal box card but once glue was added to they started to curl.looking through my craft stuff I came across most of a pack of stiff card that I was using to stick dungeon crawl tiles to. This stuff was perfect for the job.
To make sure the lines were nice and straight I used a steel ruler and a fresh craft knife blade.
Bulkheads of doom
The square bulkheads were made from an old cardboard box and mu trusty hot glue gun.
Managed to wizz through making these.
The bulkheads were built to be the same height as the plastic necromunda doors.
Adding some wall bling
To add some texture to the wall sections I started sticking panels made of cereal box card and girders made from strips of left over foam board.
Rivets were then added by drilling holes and gluing in pins. This took ages but looks pretty swish.
Sealing and painting
Adding some colour
Painting was pretty simple, mixed up some grey from cheap acrylics and slopped it on, then using a sponge I added some lighter greys and browns.
The cracks in the walls were formed by pushing a wobbly stone into the foam board leaving a cool looking crack behind.
Once it was all dry the metal parts were painted in vallejo track primer with some rhyza rust bobbed on
Butz n gubbins
Cool industrial fans made from old bottle tops and card.
A wall vent made from corrugated card off cuts
Bam 💥
Huzzah all the walls are built and painted, now all I need to do Is get some games in.
It took just under a weeks worth of evenings to build and paint and was very cheap as was built from scrap and left over project material.
