About the Project

This winter I'll tackle the Underheck. I've a bunch of Zone Mortalis (intact and ruined) plus sundry other Necromunda terrain and Sector Imperialis kits. Some random scatter too. Oh and some minis.

“It’s not plagiarism, it’s research.” My method comes from a few YouTubers, mostly Wellywood Wargaming, Mediocre Hobbies and Sonic Sledgehammer (all worth your attention if this hobby is your hobby).

I’ve taken the sprayed who knows how long ago bits and drybrushed with Model Colour Flat Brown, Citadel Ryza Rust and Citadel Leadbelcher. I’ve gone with miniature paints as their coverage is better. Other hobby paints do have their place but I value my time also.

One very good piece of advice I got from one of the sources above was that the goal is not to accurately portray rust, just give a good impression of it. That’s going to be a big time saver.

The next stage was to dig out the crap brushes and stab in some flat colour. Here again I’m not going for a perfect two thin coats, but an impression (that word again) of knackered paintwork. Similarly I’ve skipped the bracing as adding paint to the panels is … well I reckon it’s enough.

Up close it doesn’t look great, but on the table it’ll never get the close attention it’ll get in the project system. Also there’s an oil wash to go on.

Not for the first time Necromunda has pricked my interest. I picked up the re-release in 2017(?) without making much of it. The Hive Secundus box also grabbed me as a small campaign I can play through with the lad, so here we are.

I have a bunch of kits lined up, but will start of slowly with the barricades you get in the Secundus box.

Only not quite. Shamefully I have these from the original re-release box that got a brown spray and little else done. These have been gathering dust for some years now.

OK it's a shameful beginningOK it's a shameful beginning

To round things off I have the smaller barricade set from years back. I’m not sure if this is everything (certainly there are some objectives missing) but they’ll do to get my recipe sorted.
