THE GEM - New wall texture - new color
Amazon packaging offers a wide variety of textures – I will also use these in other projects, e.g. for tin huts or containers.
The saloon THE GEM will be twice as big as the buildings next to it and will also stand out in terms of colour
Working on the Post Office and Planning the GEM
THE GEM Saloon/Hotel will be the largest building in the city with two floors. The saloon and restaurant are on the ground floor, the hotel and prostitute rooms on the upper floor. There is also a balcony/veranda on both sides on the upper floor.
But hurry up, in three weeks the game table in the living room will be occupied by the Lego Christmas town.
The foundations of two more buildings are finished
The post office will also have a covered veranda and the bank will of course have bars on the small windows.
Extra Extra - read all about it......
An up-and-coming town like Dusty Creek obviously needs a newspaper. And here it is – THE DUSTY CREEK OBSERVER
Maybe later I can tease game scenarios in the newspaper – e.g. “The DALTON gang escapes from the state prison in Phoenix…will they now take revenge in Dusty Creek?”
The walls are getting a "coat of paint"
The two new buildings now each have a matching texture for their outer walls.
While the Post Office gets a rough exterior coat of paint with a mixture of “everything” (emulsion paint – sand – wood glue – baking powder), the bank is intended to give a solid brick impression.
A stone structure can be easily pressed into the foam with a ruler.
Simply create wooden structures – like here with the window frames – with the cutter knife
And by the way – it is an illusion to want to have a tidy workplace.
Project progress - the next building
In addition to the Jail (7) and the General Store (6), I am now planning another building, the Post Office (5). The office will be a simple small building that will be located next to the saloon/hotel.
I want to keep the building simple because it will make the saloon/hotel (4) stand out better. The bank (3) will then be on the left.
….what about a newspaper – I have to think about that again…
SNEAK PEEK - The Game.....
I wrote a few things about this game on my Christmas wish list, I think Santa will not disappoint me
Pssst…..but don’t betray me
But I won’t paint the figures until the project is finished – so at least the 7 buildings. That’s a motivational marker for me.
Cowboys was my first love - sorry Cpt KIRK...
In my childhood in the 60s we first saw BONANZA on TV and also played Cowboys and Indians first
…and later humanity against klingon
I am currently inspired by these series above and watch them on the side
…So there will be a THE GEM Saloon…of course

That’s exactly the point Gerry: I’m 60 years old now, retired and have the money to buy all the beautiful 3D printed or laser cuted terrain pieces and just paint them.
But what I also have is a lot of time. And it’s an incredibly creative and exciting activity to look for inspiration and turn all the junk into things for my hobby, which has always included crafting. It’s sustainable, I can spend the money on the figures and also let my imagination run wild and use my head.
My intention is not to spend any money on this project other than on the figures (and the rule book). I have enough glue, paint and packaging waste.
..and dont forget Gerry – they have harsh winters in DUSTY CREEK, so the prisoners should be warm before they are hanged….
No measurements - freehand, of course
Of course I make a plan of the buildings and the room layout – but I avoid drawing dimensions that I will not stick to anyway
The general store will be two-storey – with the actual shop on the ground floor and a living area on the upper floor
….bedrooms, safe, bath…….
change in project strategy - more faster
I discovered that the interior design of the buildings is very complex and time-consuming, and the project only makes small progress at any one time.
For a “hobby butterfly” like me, motivation is quickly lost, so I will change the project strategy
I will now first finish the buildings in their “rough form”, which is motivating because I can see progress – I have started building the General Store.
What do they actually sell in DYSTY CREEK ? Gold mining equipment?
Now you can start heating up - Dusty Creek has harsh winters
Luckily, I still have enough bits to equip a gun cabinet.
But I have to build it first…..
WANTED - dead or alive
Sleeping places for the villains are already there – now I have to make the interior a bit more homely for the sheriff – I’m thinking of a stove, a desk and a gun cabinet …….
…… and a pisspot for the cell inmates……
The most important thing is the cells
Like you, I have a lot of paints and bits lying around that I’ve been saving for something – now I’m putting them all to use
mmh… I think I forgot to install doors in the cells….well…. bad luck for the prisoners….
Let's set up the prison...
I want the buildings not only to look beautiful and be playable, but they also have to be functional according to their intended purpose.
I only have room for two prisoners. What do I do if I have to lock up the Daltons
First building - Sheriff Office / JAIL - off course...
A necessary but unloved building in an urban society. The design is therefore plain and limited to the simplest. The walls are simply plastered. The lime plaster has chipped off at the corners and the bricks are visible.
For the walls I use foam boards, and I achieve the plaster effect with sand and wood glue on woodchip wallpaper. The bricks are cut out of packaging material…
I guess I also need an interior for all buildings?!
