About the Project

So TerrainFest 2024 without a proper challenge for @brennon to warm up? Well, so be it. My brain is empty as ever and I am drawing blanks like I'm on the pier. This is my story.

This Project is Active

Add some flooring

Took a wee little break and then I did some flooring. Parts were laid out, cut mark drawn on and then my tiny power tool went BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Inner circle first, than the outer. Now everything needs to dry before I can cut the outer parts to size.

Then: more brick work.

Sudden realisation and panic

Last night, looking at my brick laying progress I realised: When I start the second floor there will be no way in hell to get the inside painted to any degree.

FUCK!

Quick look into the stash of terrain paint: a lot black left but white is almost gone.

FUUUUUCK!

Well, can’t be helped. Mixed up a 50:50 of black and white, added some PVA and some water and went to town.

It was just enough to cover everything once.

Now I need to buy more white paint and then maybe apply a second coat and start dry brushing the inside walls. Just to have them look good enough.

And now back to the XLBS

One coat. Not thin but the yellow really come through. One coat. Not thin but the yellow really come through.

More brickwork

So I went back twice to cut more XPS offcuts into round bricks. I now made 4x more than initially planned. Upsi.

Next step will be a second floor. As you can see by the (currently not glued in place wood) how that will be attached. If I can get all the surfaces a bit more straight XD

This is going to take ages. Also not to myself: cut 8x the amount of bricks. A hurra for the Proxon hot wire cutter and the foot pedal switch 8)

Bricks!Bricks!

Testing how it scales. Looks fine.

So they weren’t where I though where they would be but still within range and past-me had a good idea and wrote “Fogour Resins” on the box.

I iz so smart!

Well wouldn’t you know. Lightning finally struck. Let me give you a short summary of my thought process.

Yesterday during our show of the uHH over at Twitch I stumbled across my Revell X-Wing kit I bought to make my own version of AMGs “crashed X-Wing” terrain piece.

In the same show @avernos mentioned to me that I had backed some Fogou and that I could just do that. We where talking about brochs at that time.

Today, sleep deprived and completely devoid of any straight though an inspiration-parical wrecked havoc on my brain.

If Fogou won’t build a broch than I will build my own! With Black Jack and hookers.

What I have:

some houses some houses
some wallssome walls

My goal (sort of):

Roughly what I aming for. In a smaller scale though. Roughly what I aming for. In a smaller scale though.

So thanks to the big lad for sparking the idea.

Yes the Fogou pictures are from the Kickstarter campaing and I still need to paint mine.

Yes this is pure Gerry bait.

No I don’t care.

Will I finish this in time? Who knows! Enjoy the ride and the pictures!

Now, where did I put those lovely resin pieces?

Still no idea that made me go “YES”. So I started digging through my stash of shame.

And there is this sitting there:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/162592473/tabletop-basement-28mm-tabletop-terrain-townhouse/description

7 years it has been sitting there. Massive lumps of resin. No interior. Just massive blocks. Two houses and a shed.

Is this the project I am looking for?

TerrainFest. I like it. The idea at least. And what other people create.

The fact the my motivation and inspiration is at an all time low doesn’t really spark joy nor does it help with getting sh*t done.

So I will approach this the way I always approach things I don’t want to do or have no cue how to do: I make lists! Maybe then lightning will strike.

I doubt it but it’s worth a shot.

Which game system will I use it for? (if at all)

If I only new. Here’s the systems I own that have a chance to be played:

  • Blood Bowl (doesn’t really need terrain and I already have a nice pitch)
  • Frostgrave (not yet played but already fully painted table of terrain)
  • Battletech (don’t play Alphastrike so terrain really is “special”)
  • Star Wars: Legion (yeah, there is a mountain of terrain)
  • Bot War (There is an unbuild box of paper terrain. That would be an easy build (relatively) but not really something that can compete with other ideas)

Then there is Armoured Clash that is tempting me but as long as there is no other faction as the current two available I’m not very tempted to jump into that.

What scales are the games?

  • 2x 10mm (BT and BW)
  • 3x 28mm (BB, FG and SWL)

How are the games themed?

  • 3x SciFi (BW, BT, SW:L)
  • 2x Fantasy (FG and BB)

Does this help at all?

No, I don’t think it really does. The “most use” I would get from 28mm Fantasy that is so generic that it also would work with SW:L but I’m still very much uninspired.

I will have to think about this. Until next time!
