This Project is Completed
What's this all about?
I’ve been mulling over spring clean projects and given the amount I have come up with I don’t want to be spamming every one of my projects at the wider community so I thought I could use this as a master list that refers back to the other projects.
So here is a list of possible projects :
- Finish my Gaslands War Rigs- done
- Finish my Bolt Action Aussies-done
- Build an ambush force of Riftforged Orcs -done
- Build and paint 5 bolt action vehicles- done
- Finish my 12mm WW2 stuff – getting it’s own project.
- Paint 3 of my printed buildings- done
- Rescue my trench project- done
- Paint a starter force for A War Transformed- adding to an Ewok transformed
- Paint my outstanding Silver Bayonet figures- getting their own project
- Paint my Doomed warband and 2 monsters -same time next year probably!
- Create some jungle terrain- moving to Drowned Earth project
- Paint my giants – getting their own project .
All in all not as much done as I hoped, but I got hobby done despite getting sidetracked so very much.
Silver Bayonet
The work bench is a bit of a horror show tonight. Featuring figures for Silver Bayonet, When Nightmares Come and Verrotwood the Old West.
These are comprised of figures for Pike & Shotte, Silver Bayonet, Black Sun, Muskets & Tomahawks and Dracula’s America.
Below are some more outstanding Silver Bayonet figures.
These are from Trent and Perry miniatures.
Just realised I need to base all my original Silver Bayonet minis too. This project keeps growing.
The Future
Looking at the amount of work I have to do for this I am going to give Silver Bayonet and my other horror games a separate project.
Riftforged Orcs
I want to make a ridiculously blingy and colourful orc army, so I set about building some of the grunts.
First up, some flying orcs called Riftwalkers, these are heavy infantry and I guess the expectation is to use the same infantry as the others. I plan to use a lot of turbo dork metallics and colour shifts, basically I want these lot to look out of place in the world.
- So flying orcs it is then – let’s do Ironman red and golds. I may shop around for different orc heads, I am really not convinced by the Mantic helmed ones
Not really satisfied with the results and the heads, further experimentation is required. I will try a wash on one orc, some edge highlighting on another.
Bearing in mind this is a process for army painting I may have to take a different approach, contrast over silver perhaps .
It’s a head scratcher, but I am enjoying the experiments.
Also I ordered some alternative heads for the flying orcs
Update 22/04 the heads arrived and are a bit too big. Back to the drawing board.
I have been dragging my heels picking up these orcs again. So far I am happy with the colours, need to decide on the weapons though, thinking purple hafts, gunmetal blue housings and a brass for the business end. For other armour parts black templar contrast over oily steel.
So having finally got a method and sequence established I finished off a couple of regiments worth.
Now to try and make an interesting base
Two regiments in the bag, I am calling this one done
The Future
I have a load more orcs to build and paint for the army. Realistically this is a 2025 project, they’re not the most enjoyable models to paint, and there’s a lot of steps to get these table ready. Arguably too many for army painting. But I am fairly pleased with the end result.
Gaslands War Rigs
I have five War Rigs in need of painting. Given the size of them I will approach them like terrain pieces.
Given all the nooks and crannies in these things it seems like a black base coat is the logical next step.
Got some basic colours on, kind of messy and basic, but I can cover a lot up with dust and dirt streaks and inks.
Job done, another bit of spring cleaning done.
You can see more pictures on my Gaslands project.
The Future
Fingers crossed I can corral some friends into a game or two over the next month or two. I also want to get some pictures of the rest of my car’s done
Bolt Action Aussies
It’s not often I hit a wall painting an army, but these WW2 Aussies got the better of me. Something about them stopped them from clicking for me. The green of the uniforms we almost identical to the primer, so something in my brain was saying ‘they look half painted’ I pushed through and completed about 20 of them, but I was left unsatisfied.
I figured the spring clean challenge might be a good chance to try and take on these miniatures again. I hopped back in line to check a few painting guide and noticed one was suggesting a different colour for the slouch hats, British Uniform, I tried it on a couple of miniatures and it was an immediate improvement on the previous colour.
I have been chipping away at these all week, all painted. I have reached the basing and tufting stage , should complete today (Sunday). The arrival of my 3d printer was a distraction, but now it’s up and running I can hobby while stuff prints.
Re-basing Goblins
I learnt a lot from basing my KoW Otter army and made the decision to look at re-basing my goblins before expanding the army further. I made the decision for aesthetics and practical reasons.
The Future
I am rather guilty of neglecting my goblins in Kings of War. I have been having so much fun with the Otters. I might consider ‘relaunching’ them in their own project.
5. Mushroom Forest
A long time ago, well, last November, before I got sidetracked by Kings of War I was finally getting around to building a mushroom forest, it had been something I wanted to do since I first got a printer.
Fast forward to now and while I still want to do a forest I have seen some stunning goblin regiments with mushrooms integrated onto the bases.
Having upped my basing game recently, I want to integrate some of these shrooms into the goblin army.
The mushrooms got dug out as scenery for The Woods , we almost figured out how to play… almost
The Future
Kind of at a crossroads with my myconid mountain, the temptation is to integrate some with my KoW goblin bases when I come to redo them. I also want to explore the possibilities of some fdm printed larger mushroom pieces. I want to use them in several different games.
So not much progress on these, but it was good to see them get to the table, even if semi painted, also looking to use the colour cubes with these when the time comes to paint them
Paint three of my printed buildings
One down two to go! Given the amount of buildings I have to paint I may to do a separate project on these.
Second one is painted, I plan to add a bit of tufting and flock, probably a bit of moss too
Next up I have a siege tower and a lookout tower, just got metal parts to paint up, then maybe a bit of rust effects.
So that’s one challenge down, I may start a separate project as I have so many more printed buildings to paint…so so many
The Future
The buildings will be cropping up in various new projects, the first being the Drowned Earth project and there will definitely be a few bits in Goblins 2.0
Build and paint 5 Bolt Action vehicles.
So I have a load of British and German bits and bobs to put together, having looked at the inspiring winter Germans project by @Collins I am leaning towards putting some winter camouflage on some German armour
I have picked out some kits to have a tilt at. I doubt I could build 5 in a row and stay sane, so I will be looking at some Kings of War bases to break it up a bit.
Not a bad first run, one more Panzer IV to put together and prime then I can slap some paint on.
So these have progressed well over weekend, anything to avoid painting some not so terrific Mantic sculpts.
Ok, that’s another one done
The Future
Further updates will end up in my Winter Germans or the original Heer, There and Everywhere project.
