About the Project
2nd edition Tyranids were my first 40K army. Some of it got painted and some did not. The Lictor was my favourite 2nd edition model. It's about time I got it painted.

Picking Up the Pieces
I recently got the Leviathan 10th edition boxset Tyranids. Most of my old models would look out of place next to the new ones. The one possible exception might be the Lictor. It seems to have aged quite well.
To start off disassembly was quick and easy. (I gently picked it up and the model fell to pieces.)
Hive Colours
I’m going to be using this 2nd edition Lictor to test out my colour scheme for the 10th edition Tyranids I have.
For the exoskeleton and carapace colours;
The exoskeleton and carapace is going to be mostly drybrushing and washes. It’s also going to be the same colour. So 95% of each model should be quick and easy.
For the head and fleshy bits;
The head, tentacles and fleshy bits are going to be the focal points. So these will be more colourful and take a bit more time.
Lictor Assembled
I used superglue for most of the assembly. Only the mantis arms got pinned. I imagine I’ll regret this decision.
I also used a 50mm base rather than the old square base.
All the different versions of the Lictor seem to be based off the original artwork. The design hasn’t really changed much over the years.
I think that the Lictor design is one of the best in the tyranid army. Even if it is just a Xenomorph combined with a Predator.
Change of Plan
Due to the weather and free time not aligning, the 2nd edition Lictor has not been primed. So to keep things moving along I started painting some Von Ryan’s Leapers. (My Kitbashed variations)
I’ve spent a long time trying to find a good combination of drybrushing and washing. I’m still not happy with the results and I need this stage to be quick. Especially if I’m ever going to paint 20 Termagants.
I not happy with the carapace and exoskeleton so far but the fleshy bits are coming along nicely.
I’m putting a sepia wash/ glaze over the fleshy bits to help tie things together.
Florescent Paint
I got some florescent magenta out of curiosity. I guessed that it would be good for the tentacles etc.

Finished Lictor
I got the last bits and bobs painted.
I want to try and get some Spring photos of the Lictor out in the wild. Not sure how that’s going to go?
One thing I’ve noticed with the model is that there is no good angle to take photos. The mantis claws get in the way of high angles. The flat head doesn’t show up very well from low angles.
Worms
I decided to call my Hive Fleet:
Nematode
noun. nem·a·tode ˈnem-ə-ˌtōd. : any of a major group of long cylinder-shaped worms that are parasites in animals or plants or live in soil or water
Inspired by the fleet name & the slugs in the Spring Photos. I decided to add some alien worms to the bases.
Unintentionally this has made things considerably more disgusting!!!
