About the Project

“And then they came, a troop of horse appearing out of the smoke, great shadows magnified by the sun behind them. Forty horsemen, they came out of the yellow and red sulphurous gloom, a host of shapeshifting spectres, barghest wraiths – dread shag gytrash. The riders were faceless, dark shadows in barred steel helmets. But their mounts glared, foamed and tossed their heads as they came on, red and white eyes, bared teeth, nostrils snorting the very smoke they breathed. Over all came the crash and thud of hooves and steel harness.” ― Charles Cordell, God's Vindictive Wrath

The “lobsters” were probably the last unit to fight on English soil wearing full armour, and one of the last in Europe. They were credited with being “the first that made any impression upon the King’s horse [the Royalist cavalry], who being unarmed [unarmoured], were not able to bear the shock with them; besides they were secure from hurts of the sword…”

I’m basing my ECW around the Somerset Campaigns, but i’m painting the Parliamentarian army as the later New Modelled Army. So you can easily tel them apart from the royalist army. The two Generals Lord Fairfax and Prince Rupert of the Rhine. were very active around the Bristol area of England

Back about 10 years ago , my brother decided he wanted to start wargaming with me. We settled on ECW, so he went and bought two Pike & Shotte – For King & Country sets , the King and Cromwell. He gave me the king and on of the box sets. but unfortunately it didn’t really grab my interest and with work, money and family we found little time to play. Then Warlord started doing epic scale. and you get a good looking large battle on the same sized table , you would get a small 28mm battle on. I intend to build and paint, both royalists and roundheads. so if any one of my friend want to try it out they don’t have to layout for the sets.

So by the end of the end of they year you may also see epic ACW and Epic waterloo projects started , as you all know me. once i pop i cant stop.

Well that’s all i got to say for now , i’m off to camp the mail box. for the parcel James has sent me.
