About the Project

I recently got my hands on some of the gorgeous metal miniatures from Medbury. I thought it would be neat to show off the painting I had done on them AND where it's taking me when it comes to expanding my Dark Age collection.

Also took some time this week to actually finish the work on the band of Huscarls I’m going to use for playing Ravenfeast. This completes the range of elite warriors that are going to be fighting alongside my Warlord.

The plastic sprues from Victrix also come with the ability to make a priest. Having watched The Last Kingdom recently (and started on the book series) I thought I’d make my own Father Beocca.

You can’t see it here but I’ve given him the ginger hair of the character in the book. I also thought a club would be quite fitting considering the scrapes he ends up getting into.

Two more of the Vendels with Dane Axes from the Medbury Miniatures collection. This finishes off that set of metal miniatures.

...And Even More Vendels

I think this now finishes off the bodyguard element of the collection. Got some fellows with swords and shields to work on next from this Medbury range.

Yep, some more Vendels. You can see where this is going. I really liked doing these and I think they turned out really well!

I finished off some work last week on some more Vendels. These are Huscarls with axes at the ready to watch over Beowulf and his kingdom.

I really enjoy working on these miniatures. Single-piece metal miniatures are just a joy, especially if the detail is on point. I really loved working on the chap with the beard although my recent work on some more of this unit has made me love those helmets with the chainmail hanging down over the lower half of the face. You’ll see those soon!

Some Little Woods

You’ve seen the texture-painted versions of these woods and now they’re “finished”. I think they do the trick although I might make them a little smaller in size next time (lower to the ground).

Some Little Woods

They should be nice and suitable for some games this weekend. I can always plug in a few more trees to make them a bit denser if I need!

Some miniatures that have been seen before on XLBS.

Need to get back into painting the plastic miniatures but the metal ones that I’ve been tinkering with are just so nice!

Some Dark Age Terrain

Thanks to a push from sundancer, I got my act together and started painting up some Dark Age Terrain to actually build a table.

I have also been working on some foam blocks which are going to be turned into outcrops of trees. These were made using foam from Hobby Craft, cut with a hot wire cutter and then plastered in texture paint.

I also did the tried and tested “cut up a doormat” technique for making some fields to use with this terrain.

The next couple of days are going to be finishing off the bases for the woods and then slotting the trees in. It should be a case of giving them a drybrush of a lighter brown followed by some flock and PVA and then poking the trees into position!

I’ll get folks a full picture of the Dark Age table next week!
