About the Project

As part of my spring clean challenge spring cleaning effort I uncovered about half a dozen more part done projects - far too many to sit on till next spring so I figured I’d start actually trying to complete them one at a time - I’ll still be going by next year… First up - Black Seas! I had picked up the magazine with a frigate on the front which sparked off an interest which developed into picking up the starter box and later HMS Victory. Here is my attempt to blog my way to finish something…

That took longer than expected!

Well – that took a lot longer than expected! Turned out after several failures I was over supporting the rigging – pairing it down to a single support worked in the end.
Between that and a lot of work related distractions it has taken a lot longer to get back to these.
I’m calling these two finished though!

I ain’t dead..

Had a slight diversion from the ships lately with an attempt on a “quick” 1/35 diorama.
Doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten the ships tho! On a diorama related trip the flgs I did spot a single box of ships that were on my list of possible expansions and as the chance presented itself I grabbed them anyway 🙂

I’ll update with the 3D printing sails and rat lines progress soon 🙂

Boom! boom! boom!

Had a slight diversion having watched a you tube video on making light up smoke markers I had to give it a go!
My kids found it great – sound effects by my daughter! ?

Brigs, all the brigs…

Progress can be a little slow when doing stuff for money to use for boring things like eating, heating and generally not turning into a troglodyte get in the way – 6 days of 12 hour shifts means I’ve only got the brigs a little further along. Happily they only need the bowsprit rig doing now – the bit I remember from the frigate as being the most frustrating…
After hearing commentary on the sails I might well investigate my options with them to see what other sails I could use- having the card stock ones seems easiest but not if they are going to be disappearing off every time I touch a ship!

Honestly I thought I’d taken more wip photos – dunno what I’ve done with them!
The progress is as follows though:

Royal Navy Brigs & Frigates are painted (base coats and washes – might need to go back for touch ups and varnish later), Rigging has commenced on the first Brig.

HMS Victory has had her base coat applied (Matt black enamel over the resin pieces and black acrylic over the metal masts – I’ve enamelled over resin casts for a long time and it seems to work – the old forgeworld casts always seemed to flake acrylic spray off no matter how much I scrubbed them with soap in the sink so it’s been a default for that long)

While assisting my wife in auditing the basing supplies for her Tau Project I stumbled across a few Uncharted seas scenery pieces – we’d bought a couple of starter fleets and rules etc just before it was dropped by Spartan games way back – the fleets are all painted and safely stored away but these just never quite made it through the painting – they are almost the right scale so are getting rolled into this project – if there’s room in the cases the black seas fleets can find a home in there too in the end!
The forts have been whacked with an ad mech grey spray from GW and dry brushed over with a rough Ash grey now to bring them up.

I’ll probably bounce between rigging and painting for a bit now….

I’d been meaning to upload the photos for a while so the project has managed to move along a bit already – from the beginning though – I’d started painting the Royal Navy element while on a holiday and even rigged the first frigate I had gotten – I decided to try and bring the Royal Navy division up to that point first. I’ll add the photos over the next couple of days as I get time!
