Continental Frigate 'Hancock' (as in 'John')
Normal Warlord kit but slight conversion of the figurehead. It was apparently a figure of a man in a blue suit and cocked hat holding a document and pen (Declaration of Independence). When the ‘Hancock’ was captured into Royal Navy service they kept the name and figurehead (terrible bad luck not to) but did cut off the figureheads right hand with which it would have signed the Treasonous Document!
Master & Commander Starter Set
Commission work for a client but always enjoyable results from these great kits
U.S.S. 'Ranger'
Sloop of War as she may have appeared off Carrickfergus Castle near Belfast c1778 under the command of John Paul Jones of the new US Navy. Flag is conjectual based on the one later flown by him on the captured ‘Serapis’.
Kitbashed from 2 Brig plastic kits thanks to the interesting HowTo video
Schooners
‘Hannah’ and ‘Wasp’ some of the first US Warships, Hannah was the first ship purchased for use by the Continental Congress and in fact pre-dates the founding of the US Navy!
British '74!
HMS ‘Royal Oak’ c1773 from the painting attached, being reviewed by King George III at Spithead. The biggest plastic kit Warlord do for Black Seas and another great sprue ..
French Frigate 'L'Hermione'
The ship that brought Lafayette to America to aid their Rebellion. Note Bourbon flag at the stern
Warlord plastic kit, paint scheme based on the amazing replica which sailed transatlantic a few years ago and toured East Coast ports in the US.
British Frigate
Colours and details based on HMS ‘Surprise’ from ‘Master & Commander’ (or the excellent replica that portrayed her). Really love how the kit has different stern and figurehead options, lovely touch from Warlord Games.
American Brig
Representing early War Continental naval vessels such as USS Cabot, the same mini and paints with a slightly differing scheme ..
British Brig
All Contrast paint (by way of an experiment). Rigging was interesting, but I love the acetate ratlines, great simple effect!
