PanzerKaput Goes To Barons’ War

About the Project
Set against a backdrop of a Civil War that lasted for two years, 1215-17, as a result of the issuing of Magna Carta. A civil war was the perfect opportunity for the leading nobles of the time to grab land and power while settling some old scores along the way. This vying for land and power hadn't stopped since the invasion of 1066 with only the strongest of kings being able to keep their nobles in check. Our narrative focuses on small groups of warriors brought together under a lord or baron to raid and steal or defend land and property. With the strong, wise, cunning and lucky aiming to rise out of this civil strife in a better position than when it started. The Barons' War skirmish game has been written to enable players to fight out tabletop battles against the backdrop of the First Barons’ War between rival Barons or rival factions who find themselves on either side of the conflict. The game is historically themed, the gameplay is fast-paced and tactical with plenty of narrative and where force building presents you with lots of options enabling two players to muster very different retinues. However, as intended, this is an alpha set of rules which does not include rules for siege warfare, although rules for fighting in buildings are included. Campaign rules are something that will be addressed at a later date and released online. Having grown out of the Barons’ War Kickstarter project, the intention is for this ruleset to develop into a system that could be used throughout the Medieval period. Starting with England from when the Western Roman Empire withdrew around 410 AD to 1485 AD when Richard III died at the Battle of Bosworth Field. This presents us with a huge span of history for gaming which can be broadly divided into Romano-British, Anglo-Saxon and Viking, Anglo-Norman, Angevin and Plantagenet. And that’s just when looking at it from Great Britain. With warriors of this period being pretty similar, it would be easy to use the profiles in this rulebook to play out tabletop battles in any setting. Over time we see these rules evolving with additional warriors, characters, abilities and scenarios being added starting with the Dark Ages, the Anarchy and the Crusades and shared to www.warhost.online, which has been set up to be the community website for the game.

My Kingdom of Jerusalem Force
I have finished my entire Kingdom of Jerusalem force of 700 points, maybe a little more, but more on that in a later post. These are going to be used for Revolte Barons War Tournament, which is being held on 25th March at the Steel Warriors Wargames Show in Rotherham.
Here are some details of the event on Facebook, The Barons’ War: A Medieval Skirmish Game | Get your tickets for the first UK Barons War Tournament – sponsored by Footsore Miniatures & Games and Sarissa Precision | Facebook

I am very pleased with the way the Deep Sky Blue colour holds and brings the whole force together in a untied look. I have based the colour of the force on the film Kingdom of Heaven, rather than a historical record or account of them as I wanted a Outremer force that will stand out from the tradition white or black robes and white or red crosses.
I cannot wait to field them and give three people three easy victories against me at Revolte.
The Kingdom of Jerusalem Bowmen
I have finished the forth and finial units for my Kingdom of Jerusalem force and these are the Bowmen. These are going to be my Green 10%, only a little more than 10% that I have to have to keep my force legal, and these will be fielded as either one large unit or smaller units of 5 each for flexibility.
I have gone for the same pale blue as the spearmen for the same reason, these being levy troops and not the elite of the force. The colour choice is to give them all that unified look that might be that historically accurate but does make them very striking on the battlefield.
What do you think?
Sergeants for the Kingdom of Jerusalem
I have finished my unit and third unit for my Kingdom of Jerusalem force and these are the backbone of my force, the Sergeants. I love the Sergeants, cheaper than knights, have more options and have a wicked ability in Martial Respect. I have kept these guys with the Falchions, which as brutal against unarmoured opponents and okay against armoured ones too, with mail and a medium shield. They should be able to hold the line against all comers.
More Banners
I have added a couple of other flags to the mix for my Kingdom of Jerusalem force.
Kingdom of Jerusalem So Far Completed
Here is a quick update with all that have been completed so far,
The Lord and his bodyguard,
5 Foot Knights
5 Spearmen.
I have on the painting table a further 8 Foot Sergeants and 10 Bowmen.
This should take me close to my required 700 points for Revolte in Rotherham on 25 March.

Kingdom of Jerusalem Spearmen
I have finished my second unit for my Kingdom of Jerusalem force and these are spearmen. I have got with shields for these guys as they look nice with them and also in the Baron’s War game these are functional and act as a saving throw, admittedly a slim chance but a chance none the less.
I have got for a paler blue on these guys but have kept them in the same colour range of the nobles. Hopefully this will provide a nice cohesive look to the whole force, the baby blues, lol.
Kingdom of Jerusalem's Flag
I have created three banners for my Kingdom of Jerusalem force, but which one to use?
These are all based on the Cross of Jerusalem
The Kingdom of Jerusalem
I have made a start on my next faction but this time it is for Baron’s War: Outremer. I am basing these guys on one of my favourite films Kingdom of Heaven, the Director’s Cut, and on the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
I have gone for a sky blue colour as the main colour as I think it make them stand out for the crowd, bet now we will see a ton of them now, lol. Added to this is a pale yellow colour to add some contrast.
I am building a small 700 point force for a tournament in Rotherham on 25th March and this is the start of it, my commanded section and commander.
The Kingdom of Jerusalem, officially known as the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem, also known as the Frankish Kingdom of Jerusalem, was a Crusader state that was established in the Levant immediately after the First Crusade. It lasted for almost two hundred years, from the accession of Godfrey of Bouillon in 1099 until the siege of Acre in 1291. Its history is divided into two periods with a brief interruption in its existence, beginning with its collapse after the siege of Jerusalem in 1187 and its restoration after the Third Crusade in 1192.
The original Kingdom of Jerusalem lasted from 1099 to 1187 before being almost entirely overrun by the Ayyubid Sultanate under Saladin. Following the Third Crusade, it was re-established in Acre in 1192. The re-established state is commonly known as the “Second Kingdom of Jerusalem” or alternatively as the “Kingdom of Acre” after its new capital city. Acre remained the capital for the rest of its existence excluding the two decades that followed the Crusaders’ establishment of partial control over Jerusalem during the Sixth Crusade, through the diplomacy of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen vis-à-vis the Ayyubids.
The vast majority of the Crusaders who established and settled the Kingdom of Jerusalem were from the Kingdom of France, as were the knights and soldiers who made up the bulk of the steady flow of reinforcements throughout the two-hundred-year span of its existence; its rulers and elite were therefore predominantly French. French Crusaders also brought their language to the Levant, thus establishing Old French as the lingua franca of the Crusader states, in which Latin served as the official language. While the majority of the population in the countryside comprised Christians and Muslims from local Levantine ethnicities, many Europeans (primarily French and Italian) also arrived to settle in villages across the region.
Early Medieval Irish Cavalry
I have finished my Early Medieval Irish cavalry from Footsore Miniatures and I am chuffed with the way they have turned out. I’m planning on using these with my Irish army but also for my Welsh in my Barons’ War Game.
Well until the Irish list turn up for Barons’ War and then they will be used of Irish and not Welsh.
I planning on adding more to my Irish and painting some more of them.

Knights Go a Walking
Well following along with my Barons’ War collection from Footsore and Warhost and here are all my Foot Knights.
I love these Paul Hicks sculpts and how they look some good when arrayed together.
I really love the special characters as they look amazing.
I still have a small knight problem though, lol.

A Full Charge of Knights
I have surprised myself with the number of Mounted Knights I have for my Barons’ War, Medieval Skirmish Game. This does not include the mounted sergeants I have for my Milites Christi’s and my Welsh, plus a couple of characters. I totalled this force up, though it is not a legal force, no greens, well you cannot have green knights or sergeants, they are 1200points of them.
God, I love these Paul Hicks sculpts and Footsore Miniatures & Games for producing them.

New Crusaders
I have finished two special characters for my crusader force and I’m jolly pleased with Brother Andrew and Brother George. These both are special, limited-edition figures, the knight with the banner is Footsore’s special figure for shows and events and the other figure is actually based on one of the guys who wrote Barons War, was a giveaway figure this year and I have done a simple weapon swap from a two-handed Falchion to a Great Axe. They are both amazing sculpts by Paul Hicks, so full of character.
I have gone for a blue tunic colour based of the Knights of the Kingdom of Jerusalem as seen in the film Kingdom of Heaven, watch the Directors Edition not the normal one and I love the film. I have lightened the blue for the film to a more sky-blue colour and add the yellow Jerusalem Cross. I have reserved the colours for the shield to add some contrast along with the yellow trim. These are the test figures for my Outremer force once it arrives.
