Hang on a minute lads, I've got a great idea.
So I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m never going to finish this army in 28mm. I really can’t cope with painting such large figures so it’s time for a different approach.
So bring on 15mm.
Well at least bring on 15mm to see if its feasible or not . So I ordered a pack of unarmoured Scutari from Forged in Battle and some more 20×20 bases from Pendraken.
For easy painting I sprayed them grey and did a heavy white drybrush and (sorry for the lack of photos) then blocked coloured them in and gave them a wash of watered down Soft tone from Army Painter.
To give the army a grander look I decided on 2 figures per base.
And this is how the first attempt turned out.
Day 0 Sneakin' a crap photo in to pretend I've been doing something
Another Victrix (oh how I hate them) Iberian
And 2 for the price of one heres some more lovely cuddly metal ones
Oh the one above was smothered in soft tone wash on a 1:3 ratio of mixing medium from Army Painter
Day 8
Finally something nearly completed
Love the Instar Matt varnish I got.
Works really well
The rest is Vajello Green ochre for the tunics. A brown for the leather . Cant remember which one and Instar warm flesh for the err… flesh
Everything was then AP dipped. Well AP glazed but its the same effect
The usual LBMS shield decals
Pretty happy with them
Can only be onwards and upwards from here .
To the sunlit uplands and beyond!
Day 4
So finally made a start
The more Eagle eyed among you will be asking why I didn’t glue the spears in place before priming
Believe me. I’m asking myself some very stern questions about this as well
As always. Cue the crap photo
Finally I escape
Having been in clutches of the Great Deceiver and his despicable plastic hordes for longer than I care to think about I have finally awoken to step away from the slag heaps of sprues and stupid fiddly bits and never ending gallons toxic waste that is Tamiya thin and once again step once more upon the sunlit uplands that is metal figures.
So some lovely Crusader miniatures in the form of 28mm spear wielding Scutari dropped through the door this morning
And here is a crappy photo of them
