Minicrate #30 Medusonia WIP
A quick WIP update after I finished drybrushing the feathers, painting the metal armor (Iron Hand Steel with a wash of Nuln Oil followed by highlight of Stormhost Silver) and some work on the purple cloak (based with Naggaroth Night and then highlighted with various mixtures of that and Xereus Purple).
Minicrate #34 Issyria, Sibyl of Dusk
This past weekend I need to change things up a bit and finish a miniature instead of continuing the work on the Blade Coven.
So while not exactly blending on the miniature itself I used multiple mixtures to slowly build up to a lighter color on the dress fabric.
Dress
Base the dress with 50/50 mixture of Citadel Screamer Pink and Citadel Pink Horror.
Use a 2 part to 1 part mixture of Citadel Pink Horror and Screamer Pink to leave the previous mixture in the recesses.
Use a 3 part to 1 part mixture of Citadel Pink Horror and Screamer Pink on a smaller area than the previous mixture.
Focusing more on highlighting the folds and raised edges of the dress use pure Citadel Pink Horror.
As a highlight use a 50/50 mixture of Citadel Pink Horror and Citadel Emperors Children
Hair
Base the hair with 50/50 mixture of Citadel Screamer Pink and Citadel Pink Horror.
Highlight the strands of hair with Citadel Pink Horror.
On the sharpest edges of the hair highlight them with a 50/50 mixture of Citadel Pink Horror and Citadel Emperors Children.
Coat/Jacket
Base the jacket with Citadel Corvus Black before washing with Citadel Nuln Oil.
Use a 50/50 mixture of Citadel Eshin Grey and Citadel Corvus Black to highlight various sharp edges on the jacket.
Use pure Citadel Eshin Grey to highlight the sharpest edges of the jacket leaving a lot of the previous mixture visible.
Metal
Base the metal coat lining with a Citadel Leadbelcher before washing with Citadel Nuln Oil.
Highlight the coat lining with Citadel Iron Breaker.
Skin
Base the skin with a few thin coats of Citadel Kislev Flesh over a white/grey basecoat
Leaving the Citadel Kislev Flesh in the recesses layer a mixture of Citadel Kislev Flesh and Citadel Pallid Wych Flesh onto the skin.
Highlight the skin with a 2 part mixture of Citadel Pallid Wych Flesh to 1 part Citadel Kislev Flesh
Minicrate #30 and #34
I was inspired recently to paint both Medusonia and Issyria because of the different colors. I generally don’t paint a ton of pink or violet. So as a little bit of a change I started to paint both.
For Issyria I whipped up a 50/50 mixture of Citadel’s Screamer Pink and Citadel’s Pink Horror and applied it to her dress and hair.
For Medusonia, I made a mixture of 50/50 Citadel’s Celestra Grey and Citadel’s Demonette Hide to apply to her skin. I also applied Citadel’s Corvus Black to the feathers.
Minicrate #25 - October 2019 - Brew Bearer
The October 2019 miniature is the Brew Bearer. She is an alternate model for the Rune Bearer. Even though I don’t have a trolls army I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to paint her up nicely.
To start with I painted the base with several coats of watered down Citadel Rhinox Hide, followed by an overbrush of Citadel Gorthor Brown and a drybrush of Citadel Baneblade Brown.
The skin was achieved with a 50/50 mix of Citadel The Fang and Citadel Alaitoc Blue. I washed only the recesses with Citadel Druchii Violet and used an all over wash of Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade. I used the base mixture again to pick out some of the raised areas and then did a highlight of 50/50 Citadel Alaitoc Blue and Citadel Russ Grey. The nubs on her shoulder were picked out with Citadel Nagaroth Night.
Just below is a in progress snapshot before the skin highlight and the base overbrushing.
The next step was to complete the stone runes and the mug and barrel.
To complete the stones I used Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. I layered the washed bits with Citadel Eshin Grey and a highlight of Citadel Stormvermin Fur.
I picked out the hair with a mix of Citadel Jokaero Orange and Citadel Mephiston Red washed with Citadel Carroburg Crimson. This was layered with Citadel Wild Rider Red.
Finally the wood was based with Citadel Dryad Bark and the rims with Citadel Balthasar Gold. Both were washed all over with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. The wood was gradually highlighted with Ctiadel Gorthor Brown and Citadel Baneblade Brown. The gold rims were highlighted with Citadel Gehennas Gold.
Finally the model was finished with the leather being a 50/50 mixture of Citadel Mournfang Brown and Citadel Rhinox Hide. This was layered with Skrag Brown and Rhinox Hide and washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. This was highlighted with the previous mixture again.
The cloth was built up with thin coats of Ushabti Bone, Screaming Skull and a mixture of White Scar and Screaming Skull.
The froth was similarly built up from Citadel Karak Stone, White Scar and Karak Stone and an almost pure mixture of White Scar.
