In 1940 the controversial Orde Windgate led a combination of British trained Ethiopian refugees, Sudanese colonial troops and a few British and Australian volunteers into the western part of Ethiopia to raise a rebellion against the Italian occupation.

Despite being outnumbered to a comical degree, Gideon Force used a combination of road demolitions, night attacks with mortars, grenades and machine guns, propaganda, and completely inaccurate intelligence gathering by the Italians to force the Italians out of the province of Gojjam and to bring Emperor Haile Sellasie back into Ethiopia.

I’m working on a Bolt Action army to represent Gideon Force and I’ve got to get moving because my nephew would like to use these mini and some terrain for a diorama for a school project of his.

This is a fairly obscure bit of WW2 so I’ll have to hunt around for minis that can be used.

So far, I have

  • Some Australian by Eureka  to make up Op Center #1
  • A box of the new Bolt Action Desert Rats to be converted into the Sudanese Frontier Battalion

I’ll probably have to add

  • Perry Senegalese to convert to 2nd Ethipian Btn
  • Perry Italians to convert to Ethiopian Patriots/Rebels using captured Italian equipment and uniforms.
