War Band Complete!
Got round to finishing these off tonight (minus the banner) and I’m really happy with them!
lookong forward to my Saxons arriving and starting my next project!
Almost there!
Haven’t posted in a couple of weeks because I simply haven’t quite had enough time to get my Warbands finish!
The red for the war lord is a bit much but services it’s purpose of making him stand out!
I have 5 shields and the basing to finish then my Viking 4 point Saga Warband will be complete!
Hopefully get a picture of them all by the end of the week!
Last 4 Warriors done!
Almost finished my first war band. Really enjoyed painting up these 4.
Got to paint up a bit more fur using the technique @avernos showed. Really got an effectivelook to the fur and I will carry on using that technique.
4 more warriors almost complete
4 more warriors done (minus a few little bits). Need to do a bit more work on the bases and little finishing touches on the shields. Really enjoying the progress of my painting.
I took a little extra time to do these and even tried a little highlighting (honestly, it’s in there somewhere!)
I’ve got the next 4 primed and ready to go. Hopefully make a start on these tomorrow!
Weekend work
I didn’t get quite as much done as I hoped to over the weekend but still making progress.
I did buy a lamp over the weekend which is the best and worst thing I’ve done so far. I can now see a lot clearer when painting however the down side is I can now see additional imperfections!
I also went back and tried the technique suggested by @avernos with fur. I had tried the base of werewolf with dry brush of banshee brown previously however didn’t have much success. The more I thought about it, the more I realised it was probably user error as oppose to the technique not working.
I therefore went for a heavier dry brush which seems to have worked out. However, before the wash, I did manage to make my viking look a little like Fred Flinstone!
I wanted to upload my WIP to keep me on track!
P.S again, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give me hints and tips along the way, I am so grateful!
Cheers!
Halfway there - Hearthguard and chainmail!
For my chainmail I have a base of black. following by a layer of Vallejo steel then finally a dry brush of Army Painter plater metal. I am really happy with the outcome.
I am still missing some stones from the bases to give a little more interest but I intend to add these a little later.
I am finding each mini is a new learning experience and I am really enjoying seeing the improvements.
I also tried to take a few chunks out of the shields. I think the minor scuffs work but the big chunks out isn’t great.
Onto the Shield!
I tried the shield transfers (blue and white) and really wasn’t a fan of the effect. So I decided to paint them a uniform colour as they are all part of the same war band (the idea being, if/ when I do a further viking war band, they will be a different uniform pattern).
When I first put on the paint it was just too bright and didn’t look right so I have tried to dull it down with some washes.
Overall, I am not completely happy with the outcome but I am happy to use it as a learning experience.
Next 4 Bondi!
I felt like these 4 went a little better and are a lot neater. I still haven’t attempted highlighting yet but one step at a time.
I am going to try chain mail next!
First 4 Bondi painted up
These are my 14-17th miniatures ever painted.
A lot of fun but need to continue to thin down the paint as the fur is a little thicker than I would have hoped.
Waiting for some shield transfers to finish off!
