Building and basing
Built and based Gen. Patton from Warlord Games. Added rocks with superglue to the base, then PVA with “clean dirt”. Next will be the airbrush.
Airbrush work
Airbrushed black and then a heavy white zenith. I usually prefer to go rather heavy with the white as I like the little bit more vibrant later result, and it also saves time when painting the following layers. Finally airbrush Earth (Vallejo Air) for the base.
For my other Americans I would have airbrushed also the jacket/trousers but in this case I decided to do that later with a normal brush. The areas is so small it is not worth it, as it is a single mini.
Block colours
So have now blocked out the main colours so this should be a good basis for more detailed work. I am not worrying so much that it looks crap at this stage, as there is a lot that remains, however my main concern are if I would like to go with more yellow/warmth in the fluff on the jacket borders and how the face/eyes will turn out. Time will tell! 🙂
Starting with the shading
Some shading has started to go in, working a bit with the skin as well… and the eyes had to be dabbed in. They are not so strongly sculpted on this model, so getting them right will have quite some impact on the end result… will be fun to fiddle around with that later in the evening.
Focusing in on the face
Spent some time on the face and now I am starting to feel where it is going, dont know if it looks like Patton but it is what it is…. I kinda like it better now anyway. 🙂 Will try to go back to the shading now, it is so easy to jump ahead into the highlights because they are so much more fun… but for them to pop one needs the dark areas, so dark it is… But first family dinner! 🙂
Going onto highlights
Started to highlight up after doing a bit more on the shading. The trousers have gotten the first treatment as has the “fluffy collars” on the jacket. Also did the stones on the base…
Painting complete
I think that is more or less complete when it comes to the painting part of Gen. Patton. Now basing remains and if I spot some mistake that is worth correcting. Planning on taking additional photos tomorrow when I have a better ambient light.
Based and done!
Completed the basing yesterday and took proper photos today. Tufts from various suppliers and some grass from GW. It was a fun little model which I hope to use for my WW2 US Army, even though he outranks the normal commanders quite a lot… but he can proxy as a Lieutenant. 🙂
The patch no the side of the arm gives a lot of spot colour, breaking up the brown/green.
The back I also interesting to paint, with the belt and the dual pistols…
…and in the end a pic with the trusty “Lucky Legs II”, my favorite Sherman… John wanted tanks, so here it is! 😀
