The End is Nigh (Terrain Challenge) – Autumn Is Coming

About the Project
Autumn is wonderful - it is beautiful and foreboding. The colours are beautiful and the dead leaves signals the upcoming winter. It is beauty and impending doom. In short; it signals that The End Is Nigh! The project. I have long been wanting to to an autumn table. You very rarely see those tables. It is mostly green, dessert or winter (or sea). So this challenge created the perfect opportunity for me to dig in and get started. The piece here is meant as a prototype for what the table might look like (last winter I started a tradition of making a table each season fitting that season so once the table is done my four seasons will be complete - ready to be further developed over the next many seasons). The whole thing was done in a (long) day's work including trying out different tests and letting glues dry etc. This includes painting the miniature. The idea. I thought to have some dualism in the piece. The autumn trees signal that the end is near all by themselves but the mortally wounded soldier furthers this. Another small detail was to paint his hair orange to match the trees and bind the whole thing together. Tutoring. I was quite late for this project (literally just finished it) so there was not much time to snap pictures and there are so many people that do this better than me. For me it was mostly about the idea. That said I have added some links to help people get stuck in!

(Another) Quick Test
I did a few quick tests trying different materials and colour compositions. This is an additional piece that did not turn out how I imagined (too much going on) but I add it here anyways for inspiration.
