About the Project

Past the core box of MCP, I decided to build my Avengers roster to diversify my choices when playing them. So I simply made a list of the available Avengers kits at the time (beginning of 2023), assembled, 'greenstuffed' and zenithal primed them, they were ready to be painted... What follows if shots from my effort, which I am aware if far from the quality of that of the amazing painters out there, but keeping in mind I paint to bring colorful statuettes to my gaming table and not to win competitions (not that I could anyway :)). And remember, ignore anyone criticizing your paint jobs without adding some constructive advice to their criticism. 2024 Update - I realized I had many avengers still waiting to be painted and decided to resurrect the project for Spring Cleaning Challenge 2024 with the objective to be complete with the current Avenger roster by the end of the challenge (minus the new core box which I ahve not touched yet).

As the last two members of my current Avengers build, Gwen Pole and Squirrel Girl offered interesting challenges.

Gwen Pole was perhaps the more challenging miniature of the Avengers faction mostly due to the diversity of her base, and of the tightness of her pose with said base (so many opportunities to ruin the work previously done that I am almost tempted to suggest painting Gwen separately from the base). I also enjoyed giving the ‘exploding’ comics some details and it gives flavor to the scene.

I chose to paint Squirrel Girl in shorts rather than jeans as I flet it matched the wooden base better and gave it a ‘hiking’ feel. For the base, I covered the urban slabs and added grass and fallen leaves for flavor.

With the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie, Wolverine was a a logical choice, in his original XMen costume. GW Yriel Yellow contrast paint was supplemented by layer yellow paint to increase contrast. IU was neve a fan of yellow contrast paint over zenithal.

Ms Marvel was  more interesting to paint than I originally foresaw.  The larger transformative miniature has a fun cartoon look and provided ample opportunities for blending practice, a skill I have never been great at. Skin color courtesy of Foundry Near Eastern skin tone.

Starting with Hulk Buster, I must admit I was trying to tackle the largest model in the team, and one reputed to be a poor leadership. The mech look is very attractive to me and I decided to  prime the model in metallic color (GW Lead Belcher) and apply red contrast paint, gold and chrome accent to the suit. Reactors were painted white and given a layer to blue contrast paint, with white highlights.

Iron Man was next and painted with an identical color theme, with the custom base painted to ressemble debris of the Hulk Buster.

Cable was a blast to paint, I went with the rugged look (and away from the Avenger costume). The Teddy Bear was a wink at Deadpool 2 and was purchased from GreenStuff World.

Deadpool taco truck was a nice challenge and I decided to use the inspirational work of Dorkness Inc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y46p6OIig28&ab_channel=DorknessInc.) to which I added a few personal touches.

Deadpool is probably one of my favorite miniatures so far and fits the character exceedingly well, breaking the 4th wall visually. I picked the heart eyes to match the truck logo.

Thor in his iconic pose.

Vision passing through a low rubble.

She Hulk has a very interesting pose and I used, as usual, some granular (clean) cat litter to complete the rubble. I added some diluted glue to the littler so as to avoid erosion with time.

The Hulk. Skin, as for She Hulk, was achieved with contrast GW Karandras Green with highlight applied with GW Skarsnik and Moot green.

Iron Fist – The miniature is incredibly dynamic and was a bit finicky to assemble and paint.

Wanda the Scarlet Witch – A challenging model to assemble and extremely fragile yet so thematic.

Quick Silver – I had a grand time painting the explosion reflection.

The Winter Solider – The original miniature is somewhat underwhelming and I look forward to paint the new core box version.

Hawkeye in his original costume.

Black Widow Agent of Shield – I love the dynamic pose, which is a trademark from AMG miniatures.
