About the Project

I have started a DAK project a week ago and i wanted to share it. So far I have painted 5 vehicles, an assembled 2 more an most of my infantry. Now I only need to throw some paint on them.

As I said when I started this project post, I had a deadline of the 27/10, because of the biggest tournament in Denmark starting there Saturday the 27. I am please to report i made it just in time, to be precise I was done with the last two units 01:30am Saturday, the day of the tournament(like so many xD ).

We played a total of 3 games, with 3 hours per game to finish and 3 side missions, one for each game (‘kill the officer’, ‘knockout a vehicle’, ‘First Blood'(first dice taken)). My list for the day was as follows;

Generic Reinforced Platoon 1000pts (the only type of platoon allowed)
Hq:
2.ed LT.  50pts

Troops:
Heer Infantry Squad. #1. 90pts
7xRifles, 1xLMG.
Heer Infantry Squad. #2. 90pts
7xRifles, 1xLMG.
Kradschützen squad. 110pts
5xRifles, 1xLMG.
Brandenburgers(vet).  105pts
5xSMG.

Support Units:
Ligth Mortar(ixp). 24pts
Anti-Tank Rifle. 30pts

Artillery:
37mm Flak 36. 65pts
Gunshield.

Armoured Cars:
Sd.Kfz 231 (8 rad). 100pts

Tanks:
Panzer III L. 195pts

Transport and TOW:
Truck #1. 54pts
MMG
Truck #2. 54pts

to a total of 1000pts and 13dice.

The first game was against a Russian list;

As you an see a very open table, with a lot of long range fire lanes. The first mission was Key Positions. We rolled 5 objectives and I got to place 3 of them. 3 was almost on a line tru’ the table and the 2 others was placed just out side of the wood and the last at the crosspoint of the brushes. He got to pick sides and chose the one with the white house.

He put everything in first wave and I held my motorbikes in outflanking, to arrive from my left hand side(the bottom side).

I popped his t34 left falnk on the first turn, putting him on the back food. On my right hand flank(top side) I had my Brandenburgers in one of the trucks, supported by my light mortar and Heavy Autocannon. The Brandenburgers drove forward at his veteran unit an AT gun, and got to obliterate his vet unit in a hale of smg fire. leaving his right and left flanks exposed and for the taking after I blow his armoured car to hell, which was his last chance to stop my advance, by turn 4, I had 4 of 5 objectives and contested the last, not that he and any unit near it at that point. with 35min left of the round he gave up. Which I too late remembered, that dice taken was a tie breaker. Luckily it didn’t became a factor.

3-1 victory for the DAK. (2pts for a W, 1pts for side mission)

Done painting and a tournament later.

The 2ed game was ‘No Mans Land’ and my foe for this round was a U.S Marine Core list. I didn’t get a copy of it, but it was something on the line of:

HQ:
1st LT.

Troops:
4x8man units with 2xBAR.
1x8man Engineers, flamer, SMG?, 2xBAR?

Support:
Sniper Team
Bazooka Team
MMG Team
Para Light Mortar (vet)

Tanks
M4, 105mm, no thin sides and easy cache fire. (vet)

I held my brandenburgers and LT with all of my transport in outflanking(my left/top side).

It was a relative normal game. The highlights, I got his Bazooka Team with preparatory bombardment, and my side mission of first blood.

he also had som luck. I spent 4 turs trying to take out his tank with my Panzer III, but no, hit him only once at point blank. but didn’t northing but get his attention, and a blown up panzer III. xD

But my 8 Rad blow his Engineers to the moon, killed 6men on the 2ed turn and they ran of the table.

At the end he only and his tank and a single squad reg marines left.

The finale score was 9kill points to me and 5 to him. So a 3-0 victory to me. his side mission was also first blood.

The last game was Demolition with a twist (you had t hold it at the end of the game not just to the end of the round) against a old pro. He had a dice heavy list 17 to my 13. He pick sides, and I got the side with the fort on. He left his AA truck and his other Truck loaded with dog teams and tankriders in outflanking and I also left my motorcycles in outflanking.

It was maybe one of the best battles I ever had. it is way to complex to get in to without pictures, which I don’t have.. 🙁  But my opponent was super unlucky, he failed his outflanking roll 3times and his AA truck never came on. first time Brandenburgers have ever done some thing with theirs rules. 🙂

After turn 5, he and expended all of his one shot AT weapons, blowing up my 8Rad and Flank 36. And I had killed of his zis 3 gun and he had no chance of getting to the objective. He insisted on playing it out, so I could get dice. A true sportsman. 😀

Needless to say it ended in a 3-0 victory for me. And with that I won the tournament with 9 big points and 24 small points(dice).

All in all a great day for my DAK and a very fun tournament. But just as I thought I was done painting. I win a box of dak troops, Rommel, a MMG, ligth mortar team, medium mortar team and a AT rifle. plus the western dessert book and 50£ to Warlord, so project DAK continues. 😛

My Division clashed with an armoured dessert rats platoon last night in two games. (sadly no pictures) The first game was Demolition( the markers was two supplies depots) , it was much like in reality it was a battle of manoeuvrer. It was a race to be the first to get troops down in the enemy lines. The Brit went for trying to make an pincer move on my push towards his supplies depot, but he was unable to cut me of, and i was able to drive a truck with a squad vets up and disembark them and ran them up within 3” of the supplies depot. My opponent in his panic called down artillery on his own lines to pin down my squad. this is how the first turn ended. The barrage came down and missed my squad, but killed the truck, first dice out of the bag went to my opponent and he hit my squad with a flamer, it killed two men, but they passed the test and I got the next dice and that was that.

Morale of the story, guard your objectives.

The 2ed game was Key potions and a lesson for me in not being to cocky and bundle up, when the opponent still have his artillery barrage. after that it was a struggle to bring my back in the fight. But by turn 6, I was in a good position to grape take all 3 objectives, but no turn 7 so it ended in a draw.

All in all, I love the options the mobility and auto cannons gives. It is a soft but hard hitting list.
