all of the base colours are vallejo inks but they will get a soft tone wash over the top so they will be muted slightly

My initial 4 points of Saracen forces will be similar to the Crusaders, but I’ll be rocking Levy archers, instead of warriors. Otherwise 1 point of warriors on foot and 2 points of mounted hearthguard are in my future.

Inks time for speed and colour!

I got two sets of transfers, from VVV I picked up their single colour water slide crosses and from LBMS the more complex designs for the Saracens.

So first thing to do was get them applied.

basecoat of off white for the LBMS as normal but the VVV Hospitalier shields went for straight petrol the same colour I’m using for black on the Crusaders.

Fancy a dip?

Now that the first couple of units are done I thought I would show them off pre dip. Then on Wednesday update it with the dipped and hopefully based versions before moving on to start the forces of Saladin.

Have at ye!Have at ye!

My next two points for my starting warband will be mounted Hearthguard. Two units of four bases of Knights Hospitaller. I’ll be painting the riders in the same colours as the warriors, so rather than repeat all of that I’ll concentrate on the colour pallet for the horses themselves.

Horses often cause people issues so here’s a few pointers to get the most from your walking glue factories

  • Hoof colour is very dependant on the limb and the horse. Black
hooves will never appear on white horses, and white hooves
    never appear on black horses.
  • Stockings or socks can be either white or black,
and will depend on the horse as to how far they come up and
what colour they are on the leg.
  • Blazes can occur on any colour of animal, regardless of whether the animal can have socks.
