Exclusive Painted Forge Father from Mantic!
August 12, 2011 by beerogre
So Mantic got over 3000 likes on their Facebook page... so that means they're finally revealed a sneak peak of the Forge Father model for Warpath!
You can still stop by their Facebook page and give them a like and while your at it, you could check out the Beasts of War Facebook page.
These models look great and that's some serious armour to match their big-assed firepower.
So what do you think guys?
Is this what you expected?
Remember, you can discuss the latest goings on with the Forge Fathers in their very own Beasts of War group... and if you want to chat about Kings of War. Then check out the King's of War hub at the top of the page.

That is pretty damn awesome. So very Norse looking….I can’t wait for more from these guys. I love the helmet and visor, very cool.
Pretty close to the concept art which is always nice. It’s ok, but not really my thing.
I like the model, looks futuristic enough but still recognisable as a Dwarf. Is this wee dude a standard trooper or one of the BFG guys? Gun is massive but that could be because he’s a dwarf. I don’t like the Gold/Bronze beard armour, makes it look like a beak or something. Think it should maybe be a wee bit darker. Looks a nice model to paint though, nice chunky armour for lazy types like me to bung colour and a wash on and look good. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the army, especially the vehicles. My wallet… Read more »
It’s one of the heavies, so not a regular trooper.
Personally I think the impact would have been greater if they had just shown the picture rather than playing silly sods.
It’s okay, and a nice little chibi Ultramarine 😛
To be fair it is a decent translation of the design drawings, which is a plus imho.
Totally smitten- and I’m not even intending to collect Forgefathers!!! May have to add some to my Reb/Marauder force now!! Looking forward to seeing more!!
The legs look too small for the body – even for a Dwarf. To me, the ideal Dwarf proportions put the knuckles in line with the knees. These look to be closer to his ankles.
The legs are bent pretty dramatically. When you see the full model, you’ll see that he’s got decent length legs. Standing erect, the model would probably be 20-25% taller.
Then I’d suggest the model should either be standing erect, or have bulkier feet (and legs?) to match the arms. Still, at least it would probably be easier to correct a Forgefather’s posture than to give him leg extensions.
I’m just letting you know that the perspective on the photo makes him appear stuntier than he appears when you have him in hand. In fact, his legs are longer than on the Mantic fantasy dwarves. He still won’t be mistaken for a gazelle. Take that for what it’s worth.
Awww isn’t it cute, come here my wittle diidykins… Aaaargghh! Get off! Don’t bite my ankles! Please! Nooooo!
I wasn’t aware that dwarfs were partial to a bit of human’s ankle for lunch! hahaha.
Lovely little dude. Big guns for the win!
Looks wicked, still nice and dwarfy but techy as well 😀
I’ve never been a fan of dwarf armies to be honest, but I do like the concept here, armoured beards are awesome whatever way you look at it.
The sculpts look really nice, plenty of detail,it bodes well for the range as a whole.
meh
I second this ^^
meh too. it’s too stunty looking. Thing I usually hate about most dwarf minis is they look like bowling balls with legs.
I’ve got one in hand. You’re mostly dealing with camera angle. He’s got plenty of leg on the model. (There’s also a flap of armor and cloth that crosses between the power cord and the gun, making his legs look even shorter in this pic.)
Firstly, I’m an old goat who hasn’t had his coffee yet but I was rally hoping for a terminator width with marine height. A sort of small tank. squat, wide and brutal.
If that’s a 25mm base the mini seems more halfing than dwarf.
Sorry Mantic. I shouldn’t be so dour.
I know that their fantasy dwarves crowd the 20mm square bases fiercely. I like this figure because it has breathing room on the base.
Yes and no. Dwarves are short, but broad – broader than a man, certainly. Thus I’d like a stockier model.
I dunno. It’s a personal preference because I’m struggling with small fine details. It will be interesting to see their Orks though.
I really like the model but not that keen on the gun. It’s the bit they’ve painted silver on the end of the barrell i dont like. Should have just left it with a wide barrell. Just a small criticism though. I deffo think its pretty cool and another feather in Mantic’s already feather laden cap! On a note of personal taste though, i think I would have preferred space dwarves in armour that was more ‘traditional’ looking (for want of a better word). I think Aliens Colonial Marines type armour would have been a better line to follow design… Read more »
I like the model but feel the paint job is too clean and it’s, well, blue? It’s not something I’d expect. This would look so much better with a textured and painted base – I don’t get why they haven’t bothered? This aside that looks like a lot of detail on not so big a mini and, to be fair, it’s not the greatest angle – this with the lack of contrast on the base makes it look ‘squashed’ to me. I agree with Chibi et al – it wasn’t worth all the messing around, but still they kept their… Read more »
yeah, nice model but not overly impressed with the paintjob (although kudos for all the edging work)
is it just me, or does the paint job on the metal beard make it look like a beak…..look closely and this guy looks like a bird.
It a Dwarf (in Space) Jim, but not as we know them Jim
looks like a solid little figure 🙂 cool looking just like the concepts
It looks exactly like the concept art, and is probably beautifull in person, and as ppl just pointed out it look easy to paint lasy, and to paint not lasy (wich is great). But, after all the fuzz, after 3000 likes… The paintjob is bad, not the paintjob per-se, but the colors. And the angle is horrid. I was expecting more for the photo. But the model is exactly what i was expecting…
Really not likeing this at all. I appreciate what Mantic are “trying” to do, but this just looks so “meh” it’s painfull. My main grip is the style of the miniature, it seems to have “detailing” and features for the sake of it. I like my Sci Fi edgy and functional, as I believe those aspects add credibility to the product…..but it seems to me that the miniature is just too busy, such that relevant details are hard to make out. All in all, if the whole range is like this, I’ll be giving it a miss.
maybe we could see a non-painted one as well?
I could show a montage, but Mantic has asked me to wait until the official PR. This is not the official paint job you’re seeing – sort of the, “Hey…we’re going to paint him something like this” paint job.
Not bad would like to see a full squad to see how they my look on a battlefield. All painted up.
ME WANTS 😮 im so buying forgefathers. Now Shut up and take my moneyz!
It’s a space mari– uh, midget. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the paint job and the angle of the shot, but I’m not really feeling it. Will reserve final judgement for later, tho.
Felt like I needed to add further, so here goes: the arms are incredibly long, or seem to be. This looks worse than a knuckle dragger. Also, The paint job on the “bearded” portion of the armor blends in to make it look more like an armored parrot than an armored dwarf. And the gun – oi, vey! It looks like a silly string shooter! Sorry, guys, I’m not meaning to seem cruel or unkind. I love Mantic and this is the first model I’ve just not liked.
Don’t take the paint job for the mini. If they’d thrown the two plates under the beard in blue instead of gold, it would correct the “parroty” feel some folks are getting.
In person, the minis are pretty delightful.
