New 40k Dark Eldar Burst From The Shadows [Updated!]
September 16, 2014 by brennon
MyWargame just popped this little dark morsel onto their Facebook page and I thought I'd share it with all of you! Dark Eldar are coming to the world of Warhammer 40,000!
So it looks like that lovely obsession with flesh and warping the bodies of other Dark Eldar is going to be the focus of this first week of releases and that means the rest of the month is likely to be filled with more Dark Eldar releases as well. I'm liking this first character miniature they're showing off in the centre. A new 'minigame' sounds like it could be quite exciting as well!
Update: Let's take a closer look at this Haemonculus and those Wracks!
So above we can see the Haemonculus in more detail and it's still a great looking miniature in my opinion. When it comes to the Wracks it looks like a very neat kit too and has that spiky and deadly feel to it. Shame it's got that big flash in the middle of the picture!
According to the information at the moment we're getting this Haemonculus and new Wracks in the first week followed by a Voidraven in the second week plus a whole bunch of cards for the force, the Codex (of course) and a potential supplementary codex that focuses on Wyches.
More as we get it!

Just when I need to save some money :/
Yeah. As if I don’t have enough armies as it is. WHELP! Time to sell something else.
Who is a whelp? Do google it. You’ve used the word utterly incorrectly and in a hilarious fashion.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=whelp
Oh no, regional variations in English! Quick, tell him he’s using the word “pants” wrong as well! 🙂
Yup. Looking more and more like the competition. All hail Wyrd! All hail Privateer Press!
Can’t be copying PP. They don’t have tiny legs. And I’ve yet to see anything in malifaux that resembles wracks. You could compare Leviticus to the haemy but the haemy was flaying/shaping felsh way before levi was glint in nathan’s twisted eye. If it’s possible to have a twisted eye..;).
If they were copying PP they’d come in a box of ten that only contained three unique sculpts.
HA ! That’s true…
They would also be a cleaned up post production, and subjected to better quality checking. Odd comment from some one who riles against bashing one company, to bash another. Each to their own.
I’ve never actually riled against people bashing a company. I have complained about people bashing other wargamers and I have riled against people posting the same complaints over and over again, but I can see how that could be misinterpreted.
I’ve actually criticised GW on a BoW several times myself 😉
I think you will find that the imagery behind the Dark Eldar Haemonculus cults goes back quite a way and was originally inspired by the nastier elements of Fantasy Dark Elf (and in the case of D&D, Drow Elf) factions and mythology. It all predates the Privateer Press stuff by quite a margin, and besides this kind of imagery emerges in many forms of pop culture, including several Clive Barker movies.
Accusations of three dimensional plagiarism – whether against GW or PP – seem a bit premature.
In Fairness it is a look that none can can claim to have develop, they are all variations on a theme. Originality is an odd thing.
Also I like both Wryd and PP’s work doing something in that style is not a bad thing – elements flow both ways
The weapons are in different hands but they look very similar to current Wracks, I don’t have the current kit but I know it comes in separate parts but not sure if they can be put together more than one way. IDK. The new Haemonculus is pretty awesome, I can’t wait to see the Void Raven tho I hope its not $80+ like some are saying.
Oh for the love of (*insert appropriate deity here). Seriously? Another 40k release? Why can’t they just focus on Fantasy for another couple of months?
why cant they focus on writing good rules instead of releasing the same fossil 7 times?
Haven’t they released the rules 7 times as well? Or is it 8? I don’t track that sort of thing.
I think he wanted to emphasize the quality of the rules, rather than the frequency.
And it seems like that we still won´t get a Grotesque box. Beatssquads are hideously expensive to build, too.
Yes, I have two packs of Khymeras in my army. I have made them from Vampire Counts Dire Wolfs, with a little conversion! (10 per box, plastic)
+ Helions as Beastmasters! But I think this is one of the “standard” ways, what DE players use!
If you want to make the max. 3 packs of original Khymeras, it will cost you 155 Euros!!!! For 17 finecast miniatures 😀
The new model looks great. I’ve been using PP’s cephalyx models homi.for ages they work well thinks about using the warbeasts as grotesque and dredgers as wracks (with homi with them)
Yes! I think the Cephalyx fit well in a DE army! I am looking forward to buy a box of Cephalyx Overlords to be my new Haemonculi!
Good thing there are still massive amounts of dark eldar models to be gotten for cheap on fleabay.
Looking good I must say. Yes, quite…
Another example of “We’re losing market share. Quick! More detail!”
As always your inventiveness when it comes to criticising GW is impressive as it is inexhaustible.
Thank you :-).
I duno, he just admitted these releases have detail… So he unintentionally made a positive remark about a GW release. Woops.
When GW produces something aesthetically pleasing at a reasonable price I’ll be sure to mention it. These aren’t the worst things to get tossed out the back door, but they are definitely in keeping with the new busy, cartoony, adolescent motif GW is going with, which I don’t care for. I’m an equal opportunity critic. When other companies produce scheit I say so as well. But people only seem to take offense on the GW threads. It’s as if the miniatures, no matter how bad or how expensive they get, are sacrosanct, and unbelievers must be shunned. I own a… Read more »
Cpauls, I believe you to certain extent about your honesty regarding scuplts. For instance you were nonplussed by Warlords recents efforts for RP’s BTGOA and stated so. All very straight up and respect worthy, yet in the same breath you waxed lyrical for the Perry’s WOTR billmen, which to my eye’s were in the same dated mould as the mini’s for BTGOA. Admittedly the Perry’s are *always* better value than pretty much everything else on the market but as art in themselves are they *really* any better? Secondly your main complaint against GW is price but when you compare them… Read more »
@vonevilstein. No agenda at all. Simply frustration: GW used to make great miniatures, and now they don’t. Most of my armies are complete, but I still like to keep an eye out for new ‘specialty’ troops or heroes I can incorporate into our campaigns. Not happening at GW, and it won’t if we keep lapping up the new substandard ‘toys’ and the blatant money grab codices and rules. We should be more objective and discriminating, and if we are, maybe they’ll get back to what they’re good at. As for the Perry billmen and footknights. They work out to about… Read more »
@cpauls1 I’m sure that you are utterly sincere in your opinion of GW’s current releases. You genuinely hold the opinion that their old miniatures were better than the ones they are releasing now. However, not everyone holds the same opinion. I genuinely think that, with the exception of orcs (I haven’t seen an orc miniature I like from any manufacturer since about 1990) the miniatures they are making now are way better than the old ones. That’s my genuine opinion. It’s different from yours, but so what? We like different things. What annoys some people is things like; “It’s as… Read more »
Yep, these models are actually good! Man, GW must be really desperate!
Looks like knives and swords are still better than guns … so much its effective to carry two blades to a fire fight.
These are nice and all and I like the DE range in general but GW releases now are all a bit too ‘cartoon’ for me these days . I hope FW get their hands on doing some DE character sculpts and present them they way they should be presented, like something horrific from the Hellraiser movies.
The Dark Eldar were one of the last factions of 40k to still “do it” for me every now and then. Not anymore…
Rumour has it the wracks box contains parts which enable you to assemble them as crew for reavers and venoms. Now that’s clever thinking!
Makes me glad I never built the crew for mine!
Haemonculus tells the sister of battle to “It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again” and likes to dance with his weapon tucked away
The Wracks are copied straight from Silent Hill more or less, with a bit of Hellraiser thrown in. Not some other miniature company.
I have the original rebooted Wracks, which look almost identical to these apparent new plastics. I have them in Finecast and they are superb, stunning detail. That being said, I’ll happily take the inferior quality plastics if it allows me to customise more and is CHEAPER.
I wonder why the supplement would be focused on Wyches and not on Haemonculus Covens. It seems like Wyches are more integral to the core of DEldar and the Abominations are supplementary to fill the gap where they lack slow and tough units. Either way, I haven’t used a Haemonculus in a list in a while so I’m looking forward to having a few more footslogging horrors with WWP shenanigans. Also excited to see the possible “mini titan” that the DEldar get.
it seems like anything that can go in a Supplement could very easily fit in the actual, f*cking Codex that’s about to be released….
Well, stupid rumours are stupid.
It’ll probably be a Haemonculus supplement.
I wonder what the new Codex will do with certain existing fluff and ‘new’ rules irregularities. It seems difficult to view Hellions as ‘jump infantry’, now that you have to chose one movement phase as ‘on foot’ and one ‘sky borne’ (either move or assault). Personally, I cannot see a Hellion gang sticking their sky boards under their arms to move or charge. Similarly, Scourges are obviously ‘jet pack infantry’. There is no way those wealthy, cowardly sadists are going to charge into an assault. Move, shoot and leave (assault move to cover) – and watch the reruns on scope… Read more »
I like the new plastics, but they are way overpriced for what your getting!!!! I was thinking of adding the new wracks to my army but sadly not gonna happen.
