The Weekender: Dropzone Commander Special Part 1!
August 9, 2014 by dignity
Good morning and welcome to what is going to be a very special Weekender as we embark on an epic two part show delving into all things Dropzone Commander!
Warren and Justin are joined by Dave of Hawk Wargames to talk about the latest and greatest creations from his evil genius mind! What's in the newest Starter Boxes for the current factions? Well, first things first, they're all plastic!
Stay tuned for Sunday's show as the guys get to talk about all things Resistance and Dave reveals details on a new Campaign Book coming soon!

Great Episode. Been wanting to try Dropzone Commander, but it’s hard to get where I live.
Just buy the minis online then?
First Infinity now Dropzone so many good games, so not enough money!
Yeah Resistance gimme gimme gimme.
Looking forward to the new plastics!
That would be awesome to get my club into the game
I got to add some scourge buildings to the city now!
OMG that prize is awesome! I already have a fairly large Shaltari army plus the two person starter set so this prize would be very welcome. Hawk Wargames is a great company to deal with. I ordered from them and my order was delayed while they waited for one of the components of my order and they sent me almost 45GBP worth of free stuff as an apology for being a couple of weeks late in shipping. Thought that went above and beyond, greatly appreciated the gesture.
Brilliant episode. Just started playing the game with scourge but can’t wait to try some other races. What an excellent prize!
Those new starters look amazing! I always liked the look of the PHR now they have a plastic starter I’m in!
What can I say…I wasn’t going to start playing Dropzone Commander…then you launch the Dropzone Commander weekend. With my fiancee away for the weekend, I start looking back on your previous covarage of Dropzone Commander. I always like the minis, but two things sold the game for me: 1) The possibility of EPIC moments (just like the ones you like Warren) and 2) How genuine and committed Dave is about his minis and his game. Now that is a games creator that I want to support.
Now I find myself planning a trip to a games store in Copenhagen (I live across the channel in Sweden), because non of my local FLGS carry the game and I want to paint the models while watching your Dropzone Commander weekend,
If you guys talk to Dave any time soon (or if you read this Dave) please tell him about this customer to be, who is utterly impressed with Dropzone Commander and his approach to miniature wargaming.
Cheers!, Peaceful warrior
It’s a very very solid game, and the background is one of my favourites!
And dave will be reading this no doubt 😉
Honestly that is one of my favorite parts of this whole line. Dave is very involved with the community.
Dave totally is dedicated and involved in the universe of the game. Was great to hear what he had to say. 🙂
Did I hear you correctly at the beginning of the vid @warzan? Shaltari and PHR starter kit’s gonna be in plastic? 😀
Despite just being a 1 hour advert It was a great episode. But why it’s taking up a Weekender slot is beyond me.
Same comment every single time we do a special @tasker – and we give you the exact same response every single time…
“We do specials as a way of breaking things up a bit, when we have an opportunity to look into something in depth with a guest (ie we get them to the studio). It runs via the weekender because we are only 3 people and we cant work miracles in the volume of content we can put out (and to be fair people only have a limited amount of time to even watch it) Tomorrow we have a nice Weekender XLBS (as well as part two of this weekender special!)”
You assertion of it just ‘being a 1 hour advert’ and ‘why it took up a weekender’ even though you enjoyed it!!! – well I’m struggling to wrap my head around that to be honest 🙁
To do a special like this weekend involves even longer hours (nearly double) than rolling out a weekender. Putting up a snotty comment that makes the whole team just sigh and roll their eyes takes seconds… 😉
Didn’t really mean it the way it reads but it’s to late now I guess. ( The beauty of written word – It doesn’t always come across how you want it to. And lack of an edit button and the fact that I forgot to add smilies also doesn’t help. 🙁 lol )
Saying that though – Yes, i’ve said it before, but what am I suposed to do – Just ignore that i’m not keen on what you’re doing and just sit idly by? If I did that it gives the impression i’m ok with things as they are and nothing gets done about it. ( Not that you ‘have’ to do anything if you don’t want to – it’s your time at the end of the day. Hell, if you don’t like what I say just ignore it and move on. I usually only post it once. :-p )
I like it when you have guests on. I really do. And I understand you wanting to parade them around. But if this was worthy of taking up a Weekender slot why wasn’t Infinity?
It’s promoting Dropzone and that’s the whole purpose of this episode so by it’s very nature it ‘is’ an advert. But then most stuff on BoW falls into the category of advert when you sit and look at it. Had this been a standalone video I would have had no issues with it. I said, it was enjoyable and it was, as it told me a few things I didn’t know before and I might actually get into the game now that the 2 factions I like the look of are in plastic. ( So as an advert it’s done it’s job. 😉 lol )
It just doesn’t belong ( in my opinion ) as an episode of the Weekender. I love the weekender usually. It’s informal ramblings make me laugh. Maybe it’s that I love it too much. 😀 lol
A couple of little points 🙂
Yup sometimes it’s hard to read tone in text, sorry if I misjudged it!
However we announced about the two part special on Thursday.
It was a great opportunity to look in detail at each faction and how to approach them.
It coincides with the launch of a new show drop tactics.
Infinity spends nearly a week with us so we can craft something like a themed week. (We have Dave for 5 hours) so we have to work within the constraints we have 🙂
Your welcome to raise issues anytime, but when we’ve explained before the reasoning behind a decision, I guess we were hoping for the benefit of the doubt 😉
Fair enough then. 🙂
I tend to type stuff quickly and forget that the tone i’m thinking it in isn’t neccessarily the tone that it’s going to be read in. ( And forgetting smilies doesn’t help – i’m always getting myself into trouble for it. lol )
As i’ve said before – Under no curcumstances should you take anything I say or type as being meant in a mean or nasty way. Although sometimes frustration gets the better of me and I end up a bit more blunt than I would normally be. Believe it or not i’m actually not like how I tend to come across. I couldn’t be genuinely nasty if i tried.
Anyway. Sorry if I offended you in any way and i’ll be honest – Unfortunately it probably won’t be the last time it happens. 🙁 But i’ll try and be more careful. 🙂
Thinking on it. Maybe it’s a matter of perception.
If you had announced that there wasn’t going to be an episode of Weekender this week for whatever reasons and then shown this as a special. Would I have minded so much..?
Hmmmm. That’s something I need to ponder over.
We did on Thursday 😉
Yeah my bad. I missed that announcement due to bloomin plummers ripping the house apart. lol
Those PHR look so cool!
u should put a droll warning on this eppisod this all looks so good great show as usual guys
IS this the future of weekenders? If you’re not into a game then your Saturday morning’s cleared…
I may get into this game eventually, but…
@coxjul see reply to @tasker above.
Let me put some perspective on this, we have put out around 100 episodes of ‘The Weekender’ and ‘The Weekender XLBS’
We have done a special on maybe 5 or 6 occasions.
If this were the ‘future’ of the weekender – it wouldn’t be called the weekender 😉
Firstly I should have read the earlier posts before posting, but often by the time I do so Saturday a.m. there’s pages of them. I hadn’t picked up the announcement on Thursday – been too busy to catch up with everything. I wanted to post as I’m always looking for an excuse to get into a new game & winning goodies is one way.so hope I’m not disqualified 😉
No criticism meant – I like the way you mix things up, but like @tasker I guess I miss the rambling roundup that is usually weekender, and maybe XLBS will make up for it!
Keep mixing it up and trying new things… that’s what I pay for!!
The Weekender will always be about the coolest thing we pick up that week and we spend a few hours (+ more hours when we come up with segments and find images etc in the following days) talking with each other and planning out what it’s going to be about. This week just happened to be Dropzone Commander because it was bloody exciting!
BoW Ben
I don’t play Dropzone and i loved this whole weekender. In fact, I don’t play Flames Of War either, but FoW FTW is currently my favourite show here. I have fond memories of Dreadball Academy, but i’ve never touched a Mantic mini in my life.
I get your point, my top game is Warmachine so if there was a FoW FTW style show here for Warmachine/Hordes I’d be all over it, but good content is good content whichever way you slice it.
And this weekender was good content! 🙂
That is a huge prize! I’ve always wanted to give this game a go but being a poor student, not ideal to start yet another game!
Can’t wait to see the resistance! I spent the whole of last month without internet so this is all news to me!
I have no intention of playing DZC, but I just love watching these videos. For some reason I have a lot of respect for the game.
If I ever get my Multiplicity machine working, the second copy of me is going to get into gaming and DZC in a big way.
The first copy would be getting sent to go to work, obviously…
Dream come true mate lol … dream come true!
Great episode. Just played a demo last Thursday. Enjoyed playing it and the models look really cool.
The new plastics are great. The buy in cost has always slightly put me off drop zone, as it is the PHR that I am interested in, this mostly solves that issue.
All the stuff in plastic? Blimey!
Liked the show as always guys. Good to see other stuff from Hawk coming out in plastic
Never played Dropzone before, but some of the guys in my area have a small army of them. Still need some convincing before I’m willing to commit myself into the game..
Loving the new Drop Zone Commander starters!
Can’t afford to get into Dropzone right now myself but must say I’m really impressed by it as a game. The background is really engaging, the detail on the miniatures are superb, moreso when you consider their size, and quite frankly I could listen to Dave ramble on about real scales and passive countermeasures for days! Really enjoying this themed weekend guys, great job!
The plastics, specially for the PHR, are just what we need to get DZC started in my neck of woods.
Nice. I have been hoping they would make plastic starter armies for a long time. I really like that they include different weapon options in the PHR box
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode – yes it was all about one game but it is about a game that is vibrant, expanding, has enormous potential and the guys behind it are very dedicated, thoughtful and take enormous pride in what they have created. I have absolutely no problem with a weekender on one topic (to be fair some weekenders may spend 50% of the time on one topic occasionally but that is fine).
Looking forward to tomorrow’s episode and the Resistance (aka ‘Allo Allo’) 🙂
BOW are doing it to me again – I am going to end up bankrupt…
This game looks great. I definitely want to get into this. I like the scale and the miniatures are fantastic.
These new plastics look really nice, this maybe the final push towards me playing DzC now. The game has always looked really cool when I’ve seen it played.
My poor wallet. I love it 😉
Really enjoyed this and look forward to the resistance tomorrow. The only question now is which faction do i pick up!
I have to tip my hat to Hawk Wargames on the quality of their product and attention to detail. Really looking forward to seeing the Resistance tomorrow, I think they are the army for me.
Sadly going to have to wait until this evening to watch the episode, most excited though.
I missed the announcement that there would be a special weekend or may be I miss understood what was said. So when I sat down to watch the weekender and saw this I was a little put out, but was I disappointed ? Not in any way. I loved it and can’t wait for the next one.
I love the models and will buy them, but the only thing that I find a niggle with the game, is that it seems you have to play in a city. Will we be getting rules so that we can play on a more open board outside the cities.
You don’t have to play in a city but you will need a few buildings to put objectives in. It could easily be an abandoned military base which has been overgrown with just a couple of structures left standing.
Wow, PHR in plastic. Thats really amazing. Definitely going for this starter set. Or maybe they will include the new sprues in their 1500 and 2500 points army and I’m going for one of those… 😉
This maybe the in I have been looking for, but I cannot justify paying out more than £10-£20 a month ATM.
great show guys, I’m happy to spend my saturday catching up on content 🙂 i have only had 1 game of DZC after getting my dad the starter box last year 🙂
Really nice boxes at a good price all in all I prefer the starter set, the cardboard scenery works so well, It is a shame to have no buildings buying the separate packs.
I think it is great that the high level of commitment Hawk War games,(and Dave in particular.)
Is evident in everything they do and release.
Not only do they offer great product integrity ,you KNOW everything has been thought about and CARED about since the original concept.
But the value for money this delivers to the customer, is probably why Dropzone Commander is so popular.
Needless to say I am very impressed with all the latest releases.
That PHR lady is looking nice. but I might be biased.
Great deconstruction of the new sets, good to get a view of them. I still want Shaltari!
Nice to see affordable starters finally coming out
I’ve got some PHR despite never playing the game. I love the models, I think I’ll be adding to them with that plastic box, and then its finding time to play some games of it.
Gaining points for the destruction of buildings? Hell Yes!!!!
I have bought the starter an got a game in. Pretty close game it was….
New sets look very good!
The resistance looks amazing and some of their infantry will look great in my scourge army
Great stuffs guys I have all the dropzone armies sets as it is but if I won that prize I’d go down to my local gaming club and give them away to really get this game happening at my club.
Awesome to see this move into plastic as i have heard alot of people complain about the price. Never bothered me 🙂
Would love to win those sets, the shaltari are gorgeous and you’ve managed to make like Scourge lol
Great show!
Have started playing this game by sharing 2 starter boxes with a friend, Scourge for me!! 🙂
Minis are great, rules are working well, game is fast, furious and fun 🙂
Looking forward to the 2nd part with resistance and to buy my second army (PHR)
After some deliberation I recently got into DZC – I split two 2 player starter sets with a friend, I kept the Scourge, and I’m really enjoying it.
Great minis, great back story and tight rules.
Oh what a pleasure to begin my saturday with so much videos of one of my favorite game ever!
Thanks guys, and thanks Dave with these news starter sets, you’ll make some happy players soon !! ^_^
Nice Weekender!
Very interesting to hear Dave from Hawk Wargames talking about the background and things to come for Dropzone Commander. Love hearing the ‘fluff’ for the factions, it builds up an interest in the gaming system. I totally dig the feel of DZC and I learnt a lot about the races from Daves descriptions! 🙂
Great to see Hawk have got a full range of plastic starters, it will certainly encourage those ‘pro plastic’ gamers to give this a go. I totally miss my Epic 40k armies… *sigh* …but DZC sounds as good if not better! One day I will give this game a go. 🙂
Nice to hear Dave mention stat cards coming with minis – this is something I wish more game companies did!
*cough* Corvus *cough* Belli *cough* Infinity *cough*
Gen Con will be wild! One day I will be able to attend – bit of a distance considering I am in New Zealand! I would spend all my time meeting game/miniature designers and chatting as long as they would let me! lol 😀
Bring on Part two! 😀 🙂 😀
Really cool! To start a second army some plastic PHR might do well. Having the Menshit in is really good. Best video watched here to date for me! Though I only watch the DZC stuff.
However, I wonder if these plastic starters doesn’t remove the resin versions? I for one really love the resin parts and don’t understand the whining about price of them. My tyranid army would cost about the same to upgrade to 7:th ed as an entire new DZC army.
After the week long look at Infinity and it’s new starter set (which has now got me into Infinity btw), this just rounds it off nicely. I love DZC and was looking to expand into Shaltari, so the switch to all-plastic starters couldn’t have come at a better time.
As for the Resistance, well they are just made a pure awesomeness; loving the air units and transports particularly. The whole faction just oozes character.
True scale is great but the resistance infantry on the buses seem way to big. Great amount of info there and interesting they have gone with new box sets, the new price point should bring more people in
Such a great episode and a gerat game, im on to grab one army when i can.
Cant wait for resistance
Phr for the win, they remind me of my Tau in so many ways
I love how Hawk wargames is always striving to do things better then before.
Really great video.
Great looking game, but a very hard one to find
The only trouble I’m having is convincing the rest of my gaming group to take the plunge on this game- being your stereotypical tight-fisted Yorkshiremen means getting them to invest in another new game can be tricky! So far, no luck- but maybe these plastic starters will help my cause somewhat…
Scourge and Shaltari are my favourites so far- their play styles seem right for me and the models would suit my painting style- but maybe the Resistance will sway me… Looking forward to tomorrow’s videos!
I was doing the housework while watching this video. Nipped off to make a coffee and paused the film at the PHR introduction. There was Warren, hands in the air, whacking great smile, Justin giggling and Dave laughing.
It is wonderful to see that level of enthusiasm. With the chaos of work, small children, the demands of simply existing seeing that caused by our hobby was lovely.
I have been wanting to try this game for a while but not many at my gaming club play this. These starter sets could be a good way to get people into trying it out.
Ahh! Every time I think I’m satisfied, companies bring out more and more toy soldiers for me to spend money on! This looks fantastic!
Excellant stuff as always, very tempted with the PHR starter now!
When the started set came out previously, it was so very tempting but I had always hoped that we’d see a PHR and Shaltari plastic set also. Today you show us that and at a great price point. This appears to be the month of new games to buy! Great coverage also, thank you for putting it together!
in stores
Might have to give the game another go.
Good show – drop zone is not really a massive draw to me – I like PHR looks but no idea on play style, I personally dislike the general aesthetic of Shaltari and Scourge (With a couple of exceptions each). I am also not a fan of vehicle heavy games, and lack of infantry is not to my taste. However background is beautifully developed for such a young game – and products are clearly to a high standard.
On the whole special thing I personally prefer a wide and varied discussion but its specials like these and the theme weeks that give me a great insight into games I am not really looking at. Which I think is the thing BoW do exceptionally well. Sometimes with like with the Mercs coverage it just highlights the game is not to my taste, other times the coverage inspires me to look further both are immense value to me.
Will watch again tomorrow, keep up the good work.
Sadly, I’ve still not had the chance to play the full game of this past the starter games.
win five starter boxes that crazy. you guys are awesome
with all the games I’m juggling I can’t really afford/manage another (my infinity plans are sadly shelved for the forseeable future). Saying that however………….those plastic PHR are very tempting, even if just for a painting project, granted the big scorpion walker (the Hades I think it was called), is a big a draw for that idea when I delved into the rest of the range
I love the models. This is the next game I’m going to collect
Very nice episode, I like to hear the background of each faction.
Love the new plastics. I have the PHR resin starter and found the Juno hulls annoying due to the join line running up the middle. Took a while to fill and smooth to make invisible. Will deffo buy the new PHR starter now.
You rock Hawk Wargames.
I thought a game like Dropzone wouldn’t be my cup of tea.
But seeing all those models and listening to their background, it really does look awesome.
Hope there’s a gameplay video so I can make a better idea what kind of game it is… but looking cool!
Very informative, been thinking about getting into this game for some time now. I figured I would go with PHR, but now after this video I am not sure. All the factions seem really cool and interesting.
Been looking at this game recently, as my son is keen on it as well. So may well get into it. However have just over committed to the Wolsung kickstarter, so won’t be foe while. 😀
nice starter sets ! makes me miss Epic 🙂
Great episode. Really shows off the new plastic minis. As mentioned above , they really might get some of my friends interested in the game.
Dropzone Commander is excellent. My only possible gripe with it is that some factions (The PHR and UCM) tend to have use and forget dropships, which kinda goes against the mobility motif.
But otherwise, the game is excellent, and the starter is the best value for money I’ve see nyet, due to the exellent terrain. The plastic models are exceptional, and full of character for a 10mm game. Whats more, you can get full terrain sets for it for very little money, which is an excellent deal. The “Ruins” set makes the game so much better.
i do like this game the starter sets look awesome can not wait for part 2
i am going to play my first game in under 24 hours and cannot wait. i have always preferred plastics compared to resin and this is a huge plus that the starter sets is in plastics now. is the rest of the range always on its way in plastics or just the starter.
I have already been a huge backer of DzC. It is a terrific game and has some incredibly beautiful, detailed models that are so nice to work with. However, with the advent of all factions getting plastic starters, I think we will see more and more people willing to give this game a try; at least I hope that is the case. And the cost point, which was a big issue for some with the resin starters, has been thoughtfully removed by Hawk leaving few excuses for not giving the game a go. I am so very much looking forward to the release of the Resistance army at the end of this month and seeing where this universe as a whole is headed.
Dave, every interview I see with you leaves me more and more impressed with who you are as a designer, a game company owner, and as an all-around genuine person. I hope more people embrace your game and want so much to see your company continue to grow because you (like the guys from Corvus Belli also seem to be) are a perfect example of what is so right about this hobby we all love.
Cheers!
It would be interesting to see how thew different factions fare in non-standard scenarios, ie, out of the city, or in much larger theatres where mobility or very long-ranged firepower become even more important.
Then a thought struck me. All the guys mentioned how lethal CQB gets in DZC. What about a subterreanean scenario where the only things that can get in are infantry types? Tunnellers and those nasty big worms might come into it as well. Throw lots of infantry into the mix and get a bucket of dice.
Three words. Attention to detail. These guys have it in bucket loads. Not just the crisp models, but the entire back story. It is a complete unit as it is, but knowing it will continue to evolve can only draw more people in who are after a greater level of narrative.
Also, rock on with the specials. If people aren’t interested in the game being covered, find someone to game against during that time. Sorta the point of the table top games.
Good Stuff, cant wait to see the resistance in min form. i also like the affordable nature of the starter sets
Really happy to see the plastic starter armies for all factions, to be honest that’s what has been holding back our purchase. I was fine I wanted Scourge but my wife likes the way the Shaltari look so the resin price point was holding us back at the time (coupled with a mild kickstarter addiction), having now seen the plastic kits it’s merely waiting for September (the majority of this months play money going on the Infamy kickstarter and an Infinity two player pre order for myself and my daughter) and a fresh fortnights pocket money to send Hawk Wargames’ way. 🙂
hawk games are doing good the boxs sets look good and i want to get one
Love me some Dropzone
The price was always the biggest issue when it came to this game…at 35 pounds (presumably less at discounters like Wayland etc.) a box that just went from “no way” to “i have no excuse”. Course..i’d not mind winning it instead, but still, it just got on my shopping list for christmas (or earlier maybe ><)
I’m liking these shows as you get to see what the hole game is about gives you a chance to get the feal of the game before purchase it which is great. UCM all the way for me.
What a awesome prize…makes one wishful
This has got to be biggest game around that I have still not had a chance to try.
So many games so little time.
Yeah good times
Dropzone looks amazing really want to get into playing it as well as the new Star Trek armada!
Plastic starter sets? Why must you do this to my wallet, the one thing that’d kept me from starting this game and now it’s gone, Oh well UP THE PHR
great game, new sets look amazing
ReAlly nice starters, but I will wait for planetfall from spartan games.
Dropzone Commander just keeps looking better. I convinced a mate to pick the two player starter – one of the better two player starters in the hobby, and he’s really enjoyed the product.
nice to see the plastics being expanded out, I dont have an excuse now not to get the Shaltari. great work guys love it.
Definitely been looking forwards to plastic starters
Lovely they’re gonna make everything plastic. Allmost makes me wish I waited a year to get PHR. I’m commited to UCM now for the moment, but this makes it far more likely I’ll start another army in the future.
Another great episode, but gotta await till tomorrow for part 2!
An interesting watch.
Wonder what would pt 2 will be like?
I have been thinking about this since it was first rumoured that a 10mm Scifi game might be coming out. Saw it a Q-Con, know people who have bought and sold it shortly afterwards as no one seemed to be playing, but it has still held an interest for me. The only thing that bothers me and it has since the start is the distinct lack of infantry in the game. I dont know why this should be be I feel that just what seems like tank dominated games arent as much fun as infantry based games
Well, I think that’s done it, Metal infantry was the only scrap of resistance I had remaining for DZC, Last year’s plastics had pretty much eroded that anyway and Scourge was on my Christmas list. Does mean I could now do Shaltari if I wanted.
There’s a nagging voice telling me that I’ve just put $100 into Dungeon Saga and I could re-deploy that money…
Really should paint my backlog though…
Bit more agonising to do.
I am in love with the new resistance models !
looks like I need to get a second job, thanks bow
Nice show as always. The game itself seems really great. Too bad that introducing new games to people in my neck of the woods is like pulling teeth.
These starter sets seem like a great deal for a new player.
Brilliant minis. Another game for the list.
Need more free time
The the major issue I have with DZC is that I don’t get to play it enough! Thankfully though it’s starting to take hold in my game group which is awesome, love this game!
Just got the 2player starter set can’t wait to play! Just wish I had more money to collect all of the races!
I SOOOOO want o get into this game! Hawk donated a copy of their starter for my club’s annual charity event last year. I put everything together and read the rules so I could run some demos with it and I fell in love with it! I was actually sad to see it go in the raffle.
great vid guys, cant wait to see the next part 🙂
really hope i win this!
Very interesting game. Nice figures. It’s also good to see the game grow and evolve.
Please don’t do such a focused show again. I enjoy learning about other game systems, scales and periods; but, I don’t really enjoy a Weekender that is 100% about one game (even when it’s a game I play). The best part about the Weekender is the variety and enthusiasm that spans the hobby. This show would have been better if it was a “focus” that I could have chosen to watch rather than the Weekender.
No need for an entry in the contest. I would not have commented but for my feelings about a laser focused weekender.
I have little interest in buying a new game system but……..the game is just so beautiful. With the coverage you have given I can see it has smooth and unique game dynamics and the sculpting is jus, well damn amazing. I have to fight the shiny syndrome every time you feature Dropzone Commander, at some point you will get me playing this, but ahh, it will probably be worth the beating from the wife for spending more money on toy soldiers…….
As a foot note, this game is very much in the middle area of tactical to strategic gaming with it’s mechanics, nice sedgeway(?) for @oriskany‘s articles. Don’t mid the full coverage, it is nice to get this type of focus once in a while.
Thanks for the mention, @mattgro . I’m stuck in a hotel right now with bad internet, so I haven’t watched the Weekenders quite yet . . . but wasn’t Dropzone Commander coming out with a larger star ship combat game, hence the huge star ship model at Salute? Sorry if that was mentioned in the video (I will catch up on everything when I get home), but talk about multi-level gaming!
Hey guys,
For what it’s worth, I loved this weekender; it was a bit of something different and made for a nice morning’s viewing. I think the part I liked most about it was the detail of the factions; I was familiar with dropzone but not at that level of detail, and it really made me take a second look at the game; I’d like to see more detailed game weekenders like this, maybe something like warzone ressurection; I’d like to know more about those factions.
Looking forward to what’s next!
Fantastic episode… I haven’t seen this game played anywhere. I would love to be able to get it going in my area…
That was a nice primer on the game and its background. Might check out your sample battle for it now.
Had my eye on this game for a while!
This has made very very very happy and excited to what Hawk Wargames is bringing out I love the fact that all the stuff will be available in plastic and it might just be on my christmas list this year. This weekender was excellent, Brilliant and really cool I love seeing dropzone commander covered it inspires me in my wargaming. Dave is such a great guy and I wish him well in his company. He is doing something which I could only dream of doing but Im getting very close to it with paper and card miniatures. Great weekender guys cant wait for tomorrows one its like christmas with all this coverage of really good games. 🙂 🙂 🙂
drool… can I haz prize! hehe. Seriously though Dave is living the dream, every time I look his game is doing better and better. Its a truly inspiring story and I wish him all the best in keeping this going. the minis are fantastic, the background is fun and the promotional builds are beautiful. Hard plastic starter sets… Bought! (as soon as they get in stock anyway) we are thinking of Gencon next year so will drop in and say hello and drool over that ship
Excellent. Plastics really do make it much easier to get into. PHR for me please!
Looking forward to the resistance.
Dropzone Commander has quickly become my favorite game. Just wish more people played in my area.
In plastic and cheaper?! I’m in.
Loving me a bit of DZC
I cannot get to GenCon. This looks fantastic.
The new plastics look good.
Interesting! I’ll have to see if the minis translate to Gruntz 15mm.
I feel Dave is sort of a kindred spirit of sorts – except Dave is actually succesfull haha, but it kinda makes me root for the guy since I know how hard work it is to work on a game on your own in your room for years making your models and backround ect. So it’s been nice to see his stuff become so succesful and it only seems to be growing.
As for the models themselves – The new faction looks top notch, I love the mix of rag-tag mad max and mixed archaic older military stuff. The paintscheme ties it together so well, while still giving you that rag-tag rebel look.
I’m also really happy to see plastic starter sets for the first four faction – that is really great news and makes it more accessible and easier to start.
Amazing looking starter sets. I really can see this being the turning point in popularity of the game as the plastics I have of dropzone are top quality and for £35 how could you miss the opportunity to get into the game.
Oh well, another paycheck going down the drain =)
Love the dropzone coverage and the resistance is great looking.
I want to see the big space ship in person and hear more about the space battle game.
So many great games. This looks like a good time.
I like the Resistance units. The look like they came from “John Carpenter’s Escape from New York”, they need a Hero whos called “Viper Slissken.
Awesome stuff, me and a few others in my group had a demo of this and we deffo want to start up this game..
I really want to do Resistance but I also want to do PHR, as I like the idea of an army of Cyborgs but also like the idea of the playstyle.. But I really like the stuff coming out for the Resistance.. does anyone know of what the playstyle is to the Resistance? just so I know so I can decide on a force that’s all..
I NEED to ‘Reconquest’ me some ‘Resistance’ to the ‘Scourge’! As I have said to my comrades in arms, if ‘UCM’ then you shoot them! Otherwise we’re all ‘Shaltari”..
I’ve been eyeing Dropzone Commander for awhile! Looks great gentlemen!
I wasn’t that interested in Dropzone Commander… until now dammit.
finding it increasingly difficult to stop myself spending money on what looks to be a fantastic game. Love what Hawk are doing.
Great show gentlemen, I for one enjoyed the focus on the one game. It’s given me much more if an insight into DZC, couple that with the new starter boxes and it looks like I’ll be picking up some Scourge and Shaltari in the near future. Keep up the splendid work chaps.
Love me some DZC! Psyched to see the starters in plastic now, makes it much easier to get into the game. The 2 player boxed set was an amazing deal.
Definitly fan of the Scourge !
This game is just going from strength to strength. One of the best starter sets around.
This just makes me even more inspired to get a league going at my game store! Such a great game and a great Weekendender episode as always!
I need to stop visiting this site, you guys are gonna bleed my wallet dry. 😉
Do the plastic starter sets have the same counters as the corresponding half of the 2-player starter set?
I’m not really a mini player (except X-Wing) but I will always watch Dave talking about Dropzone Commander. His enthusiasm is positively palpable.
And a very well imagined universe.
This is what hooks me most about about his game. I find the story very accessible and really like the shape its taking.
It makes me care about whats happening on the tabletop – which is always a good thing!
Dropzone looks like a cool game , i must give it a try
Man I don’t know what to do now was going to get myself a Imp Knight for Xmass now I may get Dropzone Commander instead I just don’t know decisions decisions?
Great weekender all the same.
The plastics will give me a chance try another faction for relatively cheap. PHR here I come!
I’m planning on buying the resistance at GenCon, but i really want this prize too, this game is great, and the guys at Hawk are just great guys. I’ve gotten two friends to buy into Dropzone since i bout the 2player starter from the hawk guys at Origins.
PHR Plastic Starter!
The new expansion book!? Awesome
loved the weekender guys. Has someone new who just signed up to b.o.w and backstage thought it was a really good and different change to the normal weekender
Really like the new resistance minis. The buses remind me of mad max 2.
Too many games, brain overloading :p
This game is definitely on my list. Hopefully before years end.
Thanks again guys for a great Weekeender.
The first four factions starters all in plastic? Groovy 🙂
real nice prize, good loking game, and nice show again boys
Wow, the history/fluff sounds kinda cool. Always liked the idea of taking down the buildings. There isn’t a plan for another two player box is there?
Good show guys, keep up the great work and looking forward to part 2.
This is a great game, already in with an army and a half at the moment. Looking forward to future developments. Between this and Infinity, 40k is going to find it harder and harder to fit into my gaming rotation.
Lovely looking miniatures another game to purchase :o)
I’ve said it before, the detail on the minis is what draws me to this game.
Every time I see one of these specials, or watch a battle report for DZC I’m a little bit closer to buying in. I just don’t know if I can afford to play another game lol
I love dropzone. Very clean, fast, fun, and furious
Nice job on the show. I’ve just got back into mini war gaming with dreadball and deadzone. I really have to stop watching as I’m probably heading to the local store for the DZC starter box tomorrow.
I am getting more interested in Dropzone. This is making it look better and better.Might have to get buying.
Just occurred to me that the resistance faction reminds me of the resistance in falling skies…
I’d love to be able to give this game a try but new baby imminent so no money for quote “silly games” unquote.
Plastic PHR, my collection of random cool PHR models will soon become a fully fledged army.
Awesome stuff, I love dropzone. Wow, what a incredible prize package, thanks guys.
That is so cool. I am getting into it!
The figures look stunning as always, and cheaper starter sets can only help grow the community. Now, if I could just get my friends into it.
i love drop zone commander now the resistant more money fling out of my wallet
NOOoooooes you’re just determined to make me spend all my money aren’t you?? A rule book, Cityscape, 2 two-player starter boxes, 2 PHR starter armies, cards, extras to make all three faction to 1500pts, and a Shaltari starter army, plus carry cases already, and now you bring out plastic starter armies and resistance! And I haven’t played a game yet!
Everything looks so cool
I never really had an eye for Dropzone Commander until now. Very cool concept of gameplay, love the detail of fighting infantry that are holed up in buildings. And the Scourge and Shaltari are awesome. My factions of choice should I ever get into it. Will have to check it out at Gen Con.
Can’t wait until Part 2 tomorrow morning. 🙂
Very shrewd move by Hawk, bringing out these great plastics and dropping the financial barriers to entry for new players.
A lot of significant boxes are ticked now: Well received scalable ruleset, diverse cool-looking factions, affordable models + terrain ‘and’ a hard working, devoted company who are in it for the long haul.
I really like where this game is going and I hope it starts to get the love it deserves!
Liking the look of this game! Are there any huge units like titans in Epic?
Another great (and possible painful to my wallet) week looking at a game I have been thinking about getting into
I want to get into this game so much, but I have no idea if I should go UCM or Resistance
I need the Resistance army to live. So bleedin’ cool. I’m gonna go all Akira/Tank Girl/Mad Max on mine.
Nice to see how the game has come along. Really like the stat sheets that come with each box.
I have the UCM from the two player starter box but have not been able to play a game yet, I really need to start playing this!
Dave, this is pure awsome work! There will be a lot of people getting aboard the DZC monorail with this release. Not to mention current players starting a second army… or a third 🙂
Oh My… I have been wanting to try this game…
Nice starter boxes!
That PHR plastic set is looking mighty interesting! Best thing Hawk could have done, plastic starter sets.
Great episode, love the look of the game and the starter just makes it harder to resist!
All plastic starters are really going to huge for boosting this game’s profile. It went way up when the two player starter came out, no telling how much this is gonna help.
Really enjoy this weekender. Amazing kits and universe. Really needs this price to spread it in France.
A great episode and I loved the chance to take a good luck at the new figures. Currently playing PHR and slightly tempted by the starter set just to expand the basics.
I Love the models from dropzone commander. I just build one of the resin houses and it looks superb.
Loving the dz coverage
I want to get into this and was going to get PHR but everyone at my club has them guess that’s why nobody plays it at the club any more.
got up early to watch part 2 and its not there
Damn you, beasts of war… just as I was getting over shiny model syndrome
gimme gimme gimme
Good move on the PHR and Shaltari plastic sets. The barrier to entry for me has never been the quality but the price and a retail price of ~£35 for a plastic starter is a lot more palatable. I guess I had better go back and re-watch Romain’s Triton tutorial!
NIce – not that I need an excuse to buy more Drop Zone Commander stuff…
Great episode, wonderful news. I really like the PHR starter – seems like my third army (and the Resistance is coming too…)
Awesome prizes!
…Must wait for the next one to see the RESISTANCE…..
I’m really liking the background for this. The whole idea of an overall story that evolves as the game progresses really appeals to me. Overall a very interesting vid.
Good work guys will have to have a think about dropzone commander
cant wait for part #2
A few guys at my club have Dropzone stuff but it hasn’t really gotten any traction. Until now. With the reduced price on these starters I think I’m going to see more of a presence pretty soon.
Really good stuff. This video has convinced me to finally pick up the starter set and to shamelessly plug DzC at every opportunity at my club!
Great Episode – really looking forward to part 2
The new plastic should make Dropzone kick off again – made me buy into it when the 2p set came out last year
Looks like a really interesting game. Love the look of the PHR!
This is still by far, one of the best Sci-fi games out there…anyone with a keen interest in ‘hard Sci-fi’ should check it out. The new plastic player sets are extreme very….a whole starter army for £35.00…come on…..OK…you won’t stop there,( I’m four armies and counting at the moment!)..but the miniatures are fantastic……simple, fast rules….and the background really hangs together really well. Great to see someone with such conviction to they game and company…keep it coming.
If I had those freebie starter sets..they would go straight into our clubs ‘collection’…..spread the word!!!!!
The human resistance and part 2….bring it on!
Keep up the excellent work Hawk guys!
awesome sauce
So, great job by dave and all the hawk wargame team.
God Show. This one gave me a fine overview on Dropzone. Suddely i start to like those shar’tauri. ^^
Cool show. Like the more focussed Weekender
Great to see the starter armies in plastic. Had the PHR and Shaltari resin starters from the first release and thought they were amazing. Just the cost has made it tough to get new players in.
I really should get my act together and get some painted.
Sweden says hello to you all! Great weekender guys and a great prize. Nice way to lure some friends into the game by surprising them with an army =)
/Martin
I would love to paint the shaltari models and I wish/wonder if there will be allies because I want both PHR and shaltari in my arms so I can exploit there greatness.
Nice plastic starter set, also the reduced price versus resin
I can’t wait for part 2 – hanging out bad for the resistance.
Also a great opportunity to try out the Shaltari and expand my UCM 🙂
And for my 2 cents, more DZC is always welcome 😛
The game looks nice!
Would like to play this on an open table, are infantry really to fragile in the open.
Any chance that the resistance could have rules to do boarding actions like pirates?
These minis are of such a high quality.
What an awesome prize.
One of these days I’ll win a price!
I loved this weekender and the unboxings had me drulling keep up the good work
They show me the treasure and then make me wait.
I want.
nice vid 🙂 love the other plastics from the starter so look forward to getting my hands on the PHR
Nice episode. First time I hear any of the background for Dropzone Commander and it sounds fascinating. Might just be the tipping point to get me to the game!
The models for this always look so good. A free selection of starter armies would help me convince my friends to try this with me.
great, after seeing this something else I will have to envest in.
Been wanting to get into this game for awhile. Might have to now.
DZC is one of those games that just keeps getting better. I really liked the starter set. The only thing that has stopped me from getting the PHR is I really wanted them in plastic. Well I guess it is time for my third DZC army 🙂
Yeah the PHR are really cool looking. Wish there was a starter set with them and the Chautari in there.
Looks like I’m going to get some more starters.
PHR has this real sci-fi feel/look to it. It would be an absolute joy to paint!
My mate brought over his dropzone starter set to have a game… but I wasn’t in and my flatmate got to play a game as his very first tabletop wargame… quite miffed I was out now 😉
I’m looking forward to the new book. Can’t wait to see the special characters and what they bring to the game.
This is one of those games that has one drooling but also has had a rather high cost startup threshold, really good too see they are addressing this with both the excellent two player start set and also plastic start boxes for each of the races.
Nice new plastic starters !
I already own small armies of all four factions so far, but now i have to buy those resistence, too!
Great vid guys …
Plastic is comming fo good … I really enjoy this game … Wants more 😀
Dropzone gets more appealling each time I see it. Great minis and game just getting my head around Army selection. Not complicated I know but a little challenging
Excellent episode . Now if only 4Ground would do a version of their superb laser cut pre-painted buildings for DZC.
Plastics? I’m down.
What is that – a £20 price drop in starter kits? That really makes me sit up and take notice of this game!
Yes, please!
Very good guide guys, it is a bit of a long sit but completely worth it
Ooh, I would love to win this, I have the first Rulebook, and one Shaltari Warstrider, Just to check it out. Was a very neat book, and figure. So hearing and possibly getting more is exciting, Even if I can’t afford to purchase it all right yet.
Love it! Dave, you rock. I’m so impressed with how hard you work.
love the episode and to the creator of dropzone well done you have made a great game cant wait to get my hands on it.
Love the deep back story. Great setting
Dropzone Commander is one of the games that I’ve been wanting to try for a while now but other modeling projects have taken precedence; however after seeing both part 1 and part 2 I’ll be taking a break from the things I’ve been working on to give Dropzone Commander a try. Now to decide on an army or two.
Very nice models, the plastic starter set looks amazing
To many good games, I can’t have them all but dzc 2 player box and not included starters is possible to buy 😉
It seems like an interesting game.
Dammit… Temptation to pick up a new game rising…
Cool to see this company’s developing constantly since years. And good to see BoW supporting them with such videos.
DZC was something I considered last year but never pulled the trigger for some reason. I think maybe its the scale but I really enjoyed Epic 40k so I’m stumped.
I will need to look at the starter set again.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. I need to convince some guys around here to play DZC.
Great review – Competition entry please!
My mate and I have just started playing this, I’ve got a 2 player set and he’s got shaltari. The plastic PHR may mean I change faction as I just those walker and apc’s. Although the ferrum is still my favourite model….decisions decisions….
nice new kits for Dropzone
I think i like the scourge the most.
Mostly because of the Prowlers and the Desolator. (Desolator reminds me of Reapers)
But then again the sleek curved design of the PHR is also very attractive!
Awesome starter sets.
/sigh was trying to avoid the temptation of Dropzone Commander! Thanks BoW! 😉 Those sets do look fantastic though.
Hooray for plastic PHR. May actually be time to get stuck into DZC.
Looks awesome. I’ve only played 28mm but this looks like a scale I could reay get into
Really enjoyed this video. DZC has been a game that I have known of but never really looked into. I really think I might have to change this soon!
Dropzone looks like a very worthwhile game – I wonder If I’d be able to use any of my epic 40K models with it?
The plastic starter setz look really good….Maybe too good, my banker’s not going to be happy with me ;-).
Oooohhhhhh ueah!!!!! Sign me up please…
I hate that all the armies in DZC look so cool. It makes choosing so hard.
Love the idea of new, plastic $55 boxes. MUCH easier to get friends into!
This is a system i would be really interested about getting in to. the models look beautiful 🙂
great weekender guys 🙂
With the PHR in plastics now, I’m sorely tempted to give DZC a try now…
Been waiting for a Shaltari Starter since the 2 player Box release last year. Money away 🙂
Just getting into dropzone commander recently (unfortunately nobody near me plays it except the one guy I split the starter with). I must say it seems like a tight ruleset and very fast paced and fun game (though some of the stuff the scourge can do seems a little cheap).
Wish I had DZC players in my Area. Maybe I can motivate some with those starters 🙂
loving the models in plastic, been looking to get into DZC for a while now, think i finally need to take the plunge!
Another great show
In love with the PHR. It was a great video that really provides a lot of information about the factions in the game.
I have been curious about Dropzone Commander because they have at a store I frequent so I found this to be very helpful.
Great video and great game.
Great show, really looking forward to those new plastics!
Great show (so far) and I really enjoyed it. It was an excellent opportunity to hear about something I otherwise wouldn’t have in my time-poor life.
Sweet plastic minatures. I thinks the time for conversions has come
I love dropzone, PHR over all
Such a fantastic game, very glad to see it getting attention. Can’t wait for the Resistance models to “drop” 😉
Really like that the starters are now available in plastic.
Finally my FLGS has DZC starter sets in. Those new sets tlook cool too.
Dropzone has to be one of the best new games out for ages, only had a few games but the mechanics and play style seems so good.
awsomeeee plastics finally
Excellent video, those new starters are at a brilliant price point to get people trying a game I’ve been eyeing for some time.
I have muchos love for these guys. The models are superb, the game is awesome, and the companies attitude is just stellar. Long live Hawk!
Plastic starters will force me in to this game 🙂
I may have to dig my DZC out of the pile and get people playing it again. I know the one thing holding people back in my area was the cost of some of the starters. This will likely help that.
DZC seems like an amazing game, combine this feel with amazing models and an even amazing fluff and you get exactly what you ask your Gods! Can wait to grab one Resistance Starter and jump in this game.
That prize!
Although I have to say I have been looking rather a lot at firestorm armada that is similar but different. that game looks amazing! Would like to see some coverage of that game (I’m sure it will push me into taking that last step and buying).
4 the win posting
any of those starter kit’s is amazing….good work guys!
Really liking the Shaltari and PHR starters in plastic (especially the extra bits to build variants) and the resistance look amazing. Was on the fence about this game but now it’s something I’m definitely looking at getting into.
they all look so cool, USM and the resistance gotta get both
I didn’t know much about this game before watching this video, so it was really nice to get an in depth look at all of the factions. Thanks!
Mmmmm, plastic Shaltari. Was always tempted but thought the resins looked a bit fragile, lovely plastic though….. Mmmm 🙂
Ah, I tried to avoid this as I still have Epic 40K untouched, however, it just looks too good to miss….
I’ve been on the fence about DZC for a while now, more plastic starter kits is the last straw. Buy all the models!!!
Really glad to see new plastic starter sets. Making the game easier to expand and easier to get into only makes the game more accessible to new players.
Viva la Resistance !
Whaaaat I want some pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeee. 😉
Excellent show — love getting this kind of detail. And I can’t wait to expand on my 2 player starter set!
The broad explanation of all the factions has truly engrossed me with this game. I hope I can find a group to start this game with.
I like that story behind it all. Be something to look into for my friends an I to play. Downside, I would have to buy 2 different armies just for my self. To try and get one or two other people to pick it up themselves. Thats gunna be a chore in this small, white collar town…
I’m getting addicted to dropzone
I like the look of those new plastics and I’m really tempted. I would be interested to know if they are planning an developing the spaceship side of things so you could fight your way in before playing DZC
Even my wife likes the look of DZC !!
Watching the recent content from Hawk and with the intro of the resistance coincides with me watching the falling sky’s no set. Just makes me want to start my own 2nd Mass vs the alien invaders! Can’t believe how well this theme fits but another game to get into! Not sure the wallet cannae take it Captain 🙂
Dave and by extension Hawk just never cease to amaze and delight me as a hobbyist. Not since I first saw an old GW Imperator Titan was I ever as excited about gaming at this scale until I discovered DZC. Truly inspifationak ….
Great stuff. Love the special episodes, keep em coming guys!
I’m loving the epic style feel. Looks ace
What an amazing prize. Finding it hard to find people to play against? Give them a starter set each!
Great vid!
Good to see all factions now have a separate plastic starter set. That makes it ever more difficult to resist the temptation of starting yet another game.
Good vid, good to see the new plastics and the Resistance
