New Mythic Games Project Announced – Solomon Kane!
February 20, 2018 by brennon
Mythic Games have announced their new project! You can check out the teaser trailer for it above but prepare for some swashbuckling with Robert E. Howards's Solomon Kane.
The crew at Mythic Games will be bringing you a miniatures board game where you will play as Solomon Kane and comrades as they slay deadly beasts, terrifying monsters and right unjust wrongs. We even got a rather awesome and early look at some of the miniatures they're going to be bringing to life!
As you can see they have very much kept with the iconic image of Solomon Kane, presented with his pistol and sabre plus the broad-rimmed hat. Of course, you're going to need some monsters to fight and Mythic has shown off one of the big creatures you'll be fighting with this terrifying spectre...
This little diorama here shows off an awesome scene on the streets of some beleaguered city. For those who want to know about scale, the proposed size is 32mm, so they should have room for plenty of nice detail work.
Some of the artwork that has been previewed for the game is also very impressive and shows off the kinds of environments that you might find yourself in during the game...
The team really are pushing the boat out for this one and it will be interesting to see how this translates into a miniatures-based board game. I would assume we're going to get some very plush looking tiles and the addition of some 3D terrain elements maybe too?
I think I'll finish off on my favourite piece of concept art from the ones we were shown. It shows off Solomon Kane duelling with the beast you saw in miniature form above...
There is a wealth of Solomon Kane adventures for them to draw from thanks to Robert E. Howard so fans of his adventures are no doubt going to have no shortage of opportunities to take to the tabletop.
If you're interested in finding out more about Solomon Kane and its history in prose then you can check out the Wikipedia entry HERE.
We look forward to learning more about the game, its mechanics and where this project is going in the future!

Big fan of R.E.Howards Conan; but I must admit his earlier work of Soloman Kane was much better in every way. So looking forward to this and have to recommend the film Solomon Kane with James Purefoy.
The Azz hole in action?
Great looking figure’s would make a brilliant Witch hunter for other games as well.
Aw, shit. I was supposed not be buying more miniatures.
Oh my! This is freaking amazing! I am a huge fan of Howard’s works, and Kane is a favourite of mine! Can’t wait to see more from this game!
Yes! This is brilliant news. My favourite Howard character by a fantastic games company. Couldn’t be happier.
I have only just resisted so far due to having too many projects on the go. But they have got me here, one of my favourite Howard characters.
I do like the minature of Kane. If I owned it I don’t think he would be confined to just a board game
Was thinking in the same direction (as explained below). ^^
It’s such a shame a lot of the miniatures games these days are 32mm scale, as I’m sure many gamers would prefer they were 28mm so they’d fit in other systems as well
32mm is the new scale for skirmish games though which is what these models would be used for really. 28mm is old-hat now in the same way when 28mm took over from 25mm.
Most (not all) board and skirmish games are 32mm/28mm heroic (call it what you will). The truer 28mm miniatures are mostly the preserve of historical games (in my experience).
I still trying to get my head round the increase to 28mm
I’m still trying to get my head round scales measured in millimeters instead of *eh* scales (ie : 1:48 .)
All this x mm heroic/non-heroic nonsense needs to go the way of the dodo.
But that’s just me, probably.
“mil” has been used interchangeably for millilitres and millimetres for as long as I can remember. It’s an abbreviation for any 1/1000 measurement in the metric system
enjoyed the film…killing witches is fun….
Why stop with just witches?
A great setting for a game, could be just the push I need to do some olde worlde scenery.
Oh ok fine, take my money. I didn’t need to eat this year anyway…
For those who have Netflix, there is Soloman Kane movie. Take it for what it is. A bubble gum movie. It was still fun to watch.
I really enjoyed the Solomon Kane movie.
These days are crazy. Its like every week something new gets announced. Companies announce new projects much faster then they deliver past ones.
It feels like the hobby world is made up of 35% annoucements for Kickstarters, 60% of time waiting for shit and 5% of somehow getting some play out of stuff.
We mutated from players to backers.
and -11% of painting the minis!
No doubt i will get sucked into backing when the lunacy of the KS starts… Will wait till i see some gameplay to reserve judgement, will this be a skirmish game game with more mini’s than a 40k apoc game in the box, or will will they break the habit of spoiling us with stretch goals and keep the number at a sane amount with a tonne of terrain, time will tell i guess… Wonder if they handle this well if they will be able to use this to convince other literary estates to license to them, would be great… Read more »
Here’s to spoiling us with stretch goals and not sticking to a sane amount of miniatures. Raise your glasses please
I’d rather see this at retail with a sane amount of minis as opposed to kickstarter exclusive with an insane amount …
then again … sanity is overrated anyway.
I will watch this one with interest as well. Mythic are taking a lot of my “pocket money” these last years, and I rather think it will continue!
Looking particularly interesting.
The miniature looks good and it is, for me, a kind of 16th century version of this villain in Star Wars Clone Wars, the one with the slouch hat, blue skin and menacing aura (can´t remember his name right now). The lore is quite interesting (see Wikipedia) and will appeal to many people. Funny enough some skirmishes may be fought out on boards covered with 4grounds “Fabled Realms” buildings. So much for terrain versatility. What puts me off is the mention of tiles. For my taste there is way too much “tiling” round and about new games. Just like with… Read more »
I hope they keep the same basic mechanics. Those work well and I’d rather not learn an entirely new game system.
Given the drip feed/lack of information about the JoA KS it is worrying that they are now shifting focus to a new game. I bailed on JoA because MG cannot provide basic information on the game they intend to deliver. I hope they are not going to spread themselves too thin. They run a great KS, but can they deliver a game themselves without Monolith?
I love Solomon Kane and have run RPG of the landless avenger. This looks so good.
