Are Prodos Games Planning A StarCraft Project?
April 22, 2015 by brennon
A rather tantalising image popped up on Prodos Games' Facebook showing off very small models that appear to be StarCraft Zerg (more specifically Hydralisks and Zerglings) in 15mm scale...
The image also says that you can come along to their Salute stand to find out more so hopefully this weekend will reveal whatever project they have in the works.
It could either be something neat to do with the StarCraft licence to come out in conjunction with Legacy of the Void or it could well be simply them showing off their 3D printing service and this is showing off what a customer could order.
I'm certainly hoping we see a mass battle game in the StarCraft universe!
What do you think?

I would love to see them bring Starcraft units to miniature form.
“its about time” 😉
15mmm mass battle Starcraft sounds like an awesome concept for a wargame. The Zerg on such a scale would almost be like having my Epic scale Tyranids back… (Imagine me wiping away a nostalgic tear or two here). Plus tabletop Terrans and especially Protoss – what’s not to love?
These models really do look like very impressive renditions of the Zerglings and the Hydralisks as they are depicted in Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm. I look forward to seeing more on this in the future.
Since Games Workshop don’t seem interested in taking my money for a mass battle game, what better to turn to than Starcraft?
Cool! 🙂 those are clearly zerglings and hydralisks 😀 sweet stuff
I think clearly is being a bit generous – not a fan from that basic picture. Also if prodos sounds like more KS.
I think it is likely these are starcraft but would have hoped for a nicer model set – could be the scale
Looking at the size of the hand, I would guess at 15mm scale.
If so, as a collector of many other minis at this scale, I would say that the the detail looks ‘good’ at the very least.
One of the chaps from Prodos on Dakka Dakka commented that these will not be a KS release.
Over on the Prodos Facebook page, lots of people seem to think that the ‘would you like to know more?’ tagline at the bottom of the image means that Prodos is actually licencing Heinlein’s Starship Troopers universe, or more accurately the cinematic version of that setting, but those are definitely Zerglings and Hydralisks in model form, and in a couple of the Terran cutscenes from Starcraft 1 and the Broodwar expansion set we were shown news report style clips that included the ‘would you like to know more?’ phrase as a nod to one of the original inspirations for the… Read more »
Scalewise, those look like they might be 10mm not 15mm.
Looking at the hand in the background (wearing the One Ring – is Sauron making models these days?), I tend to agree that these are probably 10mm, or even 6mm. Some people have expressed a desire for a 28mm version, and I can certainly see why people would want to see such awesome and iconic units in such detail (I do too), I still think that a 10mm version has certain advantages, specifically in conveying the scale of some of the units from the games – the likes of an Ultralisk, a Goliath, or a Colosus would be challenging to… Read more »
This is 99.9% sure to be Starcraft, compare the Hydralisks to the picture in “Specimen Analysis” below on blizzards site.

As a DZC-player, there is a lot of 10mm buildings and terrain that would be suitable if I got into the game. 🙂
28mm would certainly be a more skirmish oriented game, a small specialized team doing covert missions. Ghosts sniping and planting nukes, dark templars stealthing through to reach key units etc.
I look forward to seeing what Prodos will do with the license – also hope that they get all the necessary signatures before going into production… 😉
It’s possible.. If you imagine a zerg (the smaller guys at the front) are about 2/3rds the height of a human (armoured marine) in the game – depending on the size of the guy’s hand, maybe about 9mm for one of those?
If this was anyone other than Prodos I’d be excited. Given their AvP shenanigans I’m less interested.
Hopefully there won’t be the license-related holdups at least.
In other news they announced it’s not a KS, which is one thing!
Delicious…. but that base might not be what i like for a starcraft game if they want to do a exact representation of the original game, no micro-management here. But maybe they are gonna focus on other type of battle system. The amazing part is that this screams full proper mass battles wargame!
Looking closely at the models, I like the way that the bases seem to have been modeled to look like the Creep from the games.
Starcraft in small scale? Shut up and take my money already!
Dagnammit I am SO excited about this.
Can’t wait to see the marines, really hoping they can match the aesthetics of the little bubble guys from the computer game!
Hope they make a 28mm version as well to go hand in hand with the small scale stuff .. awesome for campaigns that include both large scale war and smaller operations with heroes and such, id be on that without much thought.
Ah the irony. On the same day we find a trailer for a video game adaption of a war game and a sneak peak of a potential war game adaption of a video game. The circle is complete.
I saw the picture on the Beasts of War facebook page and got so excited then I saw who was producing it. My friend had an awful experience with them during the Warzone kickstarter and I saw some pretty shocking customer service on the AVP kickstarter before it went down. Much as I would love to get in on these I guess I’ll either wait till retail or give it a miss altogether 🙁
no f… way! THIS IS SOO GOOOD!
These look great, I don’t play Starcraft anymore but I wouldn’t be able to resist 15mm Terran… Hopefully they’d mix in well with Hawk Wargames Dropzone Commander too! 😀
Keen on the license, less keen on the scale. Always wanted a 28mm zerg army. And frankly having waited so long for AvP the prospect of another IP I love going through the same company gives me an involuntary shudder. Maybe I’ll be proved wrong…
And so we came full circle. Blizzard ripped off GW with the orc designs, launched Warcraft, then Starcraft, and now Starcraft is turned into a tabletop game. 🙂
I didn’t play Starcraft on PC, so if I had to choose between, say, Starcraft and Dropzone Commander, I’d choose Dropzone Commander hands down. Original consents deserve more support than licensed products, IMHO.
Blizzard developed the game and offered it to GW to license, and it is why the Orcs are green. Apparently GW rejected it because it would never amount to anything ……
But there are so many urban legends surrounding the development of Warcraft – have you heard the one about GW originally planing to partner with Blizzard to create a Warhammer RTS, but the two companies fell out over the specifics of money, and then Blizzard double crossed GW by releasing the game anyway, having changed the title and a few details of the game lore. And of course then the went on to add insult to injury when the created Starcraft… There is no evidence for these claims, of course, but they continue to wander around the internet like lost… Read more »
I’ve spent the last day trying to remember these models in the StarGate movie and series…
Wargamer moments – they happen to us all… 😉
Zergling!! So Cute!!
