Important Painting Competition Update
August 16, 2011 by beerogre
Hi Guys,
Since the announcement on TURN 8 that we had to alter the entry requirements for the competition, we've been inundated with emails and PMs with the thoughts of the community and some demands!
We've been diligently reading through your suggestions and we've come to the conclusion that the community would prefer to see some WIP shots of any competition entries, not just to prove authenticity, but to inspire other painters and modellers to perhaps try something similar.
That's the sort of thing we want to support at BoW. Therefore we've decided to reopen the competition thread and request that entrants put some WIP images on their entries in order to enter.
However, as it's halfway through the month and there are already many entries. Those miniatures entered prior to 15th August 2011 will be excluded from this requirement.
If you have any queries, then you can comment below or email [email protected] and we'll try to help you out.
I think this is a good idea a great one even.
This way people are painting stuff for the comp not just making old stuff and sending it in.
Good Luck to everyone and I hope to be seeing your work soon!
That’s the idea, in part ! Simply being able to submit something you spent months working on is unfair to the new painters who only heard about the competition in August…
Remember, you don’t have to paint a whole unit (although you can if you want to), just a single miniature will do !

Thanks Romain, got something on the way drying atm. Zero chance of winning but being in the race is still alot of fun.
There’s always the Honourable Mention… the winner will be the one who impresses the judges the most… not necessarily the best paint job.
I will add that you get brownie points for originality, that is to say truly making the miniature “your own”… Even if the technical aspect isn’t quite as masterful as you would want it to be !

Oh well, I’ve just finished my one mini over the weekend , but obviously havent taken WIP shots, so next month perhaps for me.
You’re a long time member here and well known to us @nogginthenog
So, I’ve been speaking to @elromanozo if you can take a picture with the Beasts of War logo in the background, we’ll accept it.
wehey!
Its not like I would win anyway, never shown my minis off before, except to the wife and kids and the sad old gits I game with.
Finished my today. No Wip pics. B*ll*cks.
Its a nice addition to the rules and should help to motivate more people into painting.
Some of you out there might grumble about taking photos of your WIP. Taking quick breaks while painting a mini is great practice to get into and helps to take a step back from your work. During that time snap a few shots, its that easy.
My other hobby is plastic models , aircraft mainly, and its normal practise to do work in progress shots as you go, I’ve learned so much from seeing how other people tackle stuff underneath the layers of paint , so I think its a great idea here.
I’m not a great painter by any means, but I do paint in a different way to most people, and someone may take some ideas from how I go about things and improve on it.
Excellent. Was the link in my original post to the WIP thread I have on warseer sufficent as WIP pictures? If not I will happily dig the pictures out of my photobucket account.
@mrdee – If you upload them as additional images in Minirama, that would comply with the new rules.
Excellent. I’ve already done wips of mine, Like Nogginthenog I’ve come from a large scale sci-fi and tank background, so wips are almost expected in those circles.
Good luck to those entering, I certainly hope I get some!
I just took some WIP shots. Mind you I really wish to win this and I’m trying new things I never did before. This I feel is exactly what this was meant to do. To help nudge some of us novice painters to become OK painters, and us OK painters to become great painters.
On that note this will be my first time trying none metallic metal for my weapons. Any tips will gain my gratitude.
I fear the scheduled tutorial will be too late for this contest… But I’m sure you’ll do fine ! You get points for trying, even if you aren’t the best.

Took some photos of some recently completed units (dwarfs, ghouls and grave guard) following reading about the comp but don’t have the wip shots. As stated on the thread am not a great painter by any means but happy with them myself. Will upload to minirama anyway now i have the pics but will not worry about the comp this time.
Not comp related but wanted to apologise to all, mistakenly posted each set of pics for each of the units as individual posts rather than grouping as sub pics for each unit. Cant seem to correct this so apologies again, will know for next time, DOH!
I was disgusted, DISGUSTED I say, with your behaviour!!!!!!!!
😉
I feel happy that I had said about WIP shots. Now we may also be sure that no-one is cheating, though I doubt anyone would of. 😉
Where are the results for the August competition? I don’t see the results on any of the related threads on the forum. Am I just overlooking it?
