Mythic Battles: Pantheon Now Live On Kickstarter!
November 1, 2016 by brennon
Mythic Battles: Pantheon is now live on Kickstarter from Mythic Games allowing you to battle it out as the Gods of Greek Myth and Legend.
The game sees you competing as one of the Gods, including Zeus, Ares, Athena and Hades (more to come) vying to become the new ruler of Olympus.
If you're already interested in the game then you can watch our interview with the games designer, Leonidas Vesperini HERE and our full on Let's Play HERE. Backstagers can also indulge in a bit of tactical thinking with Leonidas and the guys as part of The Weekender XLBS.
Designed for between two to four players this game sports some wonderful tactical decision making and of course amazing miniatures too.
The miniatures in the game are fantastic, based on artwork by renowned artists like Stefan Kopinksi, Paolo Parente, Guillem H. Pongiluppi and Loic Muzy.
What's In The Box?
In terms of what you get in the box there's quite the array of wonderful components on offer as well as the miniatures you've seen above.

Inside the set you'll find thirty-seven highly detailed figures, thirteen Character Dashboards with adjustable stat ruler, ten engraved dice, two two-sided foldable game boards representing four battlegrounds (Olympus, Styx, Tartarus and Minos Labyrinth), one scenario booklet and fifteen Omphalos gems.
As a Kickstarter Exclusive, all backers will also get their hands on Apollo, God of Art & Sun as well as all of his paraphernalia which is very cool indeed!
So, what are you waiting for? Get stuck into the Kickstarter and delve deeper into these Godly battles!

I was on bang on 7pm, put my pledge and there was $700 raised, turned away for a few second and when I looked again it was funded lol.
and funded in 5 minutes. 😉
Got in on Early Bird in the 200s… phew!!
Early bird pledges disappeared in the time it took me to load the page!
I backed and I think I was one of the first 10 backers. Warren….your playthrough is what sold me. HOWEVER…..your playthrough for Deadzone also sold me on that some years ago now. I have still yet to get that first Deadzone KS to the table in any meaningful way.
They revamped the rules and came out with a Deadzone 2.0 and did away with the unit cards, the mission cards, etc. They streamlined it quite a bit and I STILL don’t get it to the table.
Considering Deadzone is a Jake Thornton game and Mythic Battles is also a Jake Thornton game…..I seriously, seriously hope you guys are not leading me down the garden path again here!!!
I want to see you play this again in Let’s Play a year+ from now when it comes out. Show us some love then and keep the interest up when it actually arrives…..don’t just let it fade away like Deadzone did in your rotation of games.
Not that I think it was a bad thing if it was, but Mythic Battles isn’t by Jake, but by Benoit Vogt. Jake is handling things like the running of the KS (and can be seen doing a sterling job on the comments page there right now 🙂 ). I’d be backing this regardless because I really like the game, but it also helps that there is organised play planned for it. I find that it works a treat to motivate people to get together to play, and outside of my casual boardgame group, almost all the gaming I get to do is either in organised play or as prep for it.
Thanks for the clarification. I do follow Jake’s blog and he’s been talking about a skirmish game and finessing the rules for a while now….I just assumed it was all his.
The organized play sounds promising as well, I hadn’t realized that. That’s a good sign at least.
Ironically, the opposite happened with DreadBall, where the esteemed James M. fronted all of the promotion so people associate that game as being his instead of Jake’s. I guess it pays to have your face on the product lol
Yup. Just ask Steve Jobs.
Managed to get an early bird, I conceded a ranked game in Hearthstone so I made it on time.
Delivery date December 2017, fuck that, I will wait for the general release.
Awesome looking game, I really hope this is well supported.
It is a long wait. Although for me the amount of free stuff and kickstarter exclusive minis will probably be titanic and outweighs the waiting by far. The more people supporting it, the more free plastic crack everyone backing will get, the beauty of a working kickstarter 🙂
Even if there were zero stretch goals unlocked I’d still back the campaign to get the exclusive Apollo. I’m told that there are a load of freebies planned as stretch goals though, so even if it only unlocks half of them it’ll be so much better value than waiting till retail.
The basic (and indeed at present only) pledge level is for the game plus all stretch goals so you’ll get a lot of free stuff for your $99 – each stretch goal technically a freebie.
December 2017 is, in my experience, about average for a Kickstarter of this product type. From experience, these are Kickstarters I have backed that fall into a similar category:
Dungeon Saga: Kickstarted August 2014, delivered September 2015 (13 months)
Conan: Kickstarted January 2015, delivered October 2016 (21 months)
HINT*: Kickstarted April 2015, delivered July 2016 (15 months)
Deadzone Infestation: Kickstarted March 2015, delivered April 2016 (13 months)
December 2017 is 13-14 months from now, so it’s well within what in my eyes could be considered the industry standard.
backed
managed to get an early bird too it said I and 8 others backed it yet my backer number is 203.
Same experience and I got number 963!
This will be an interesting KS, a lot of freebies as SG. Alternating poses for troops is great. I´m wondering when the add-ons will pop-up. Scylla is such an epic mini, might just go for her… but then again, there is the matter of the Titan 🙂
Wow backed immediately. $99 that’s just insane!
I really don’t get this game. The gameplay says *Wargame*. Yet the single piece+mono-pose minis say just a boardgame. The big gribblies are good but .not great. The humans good but just shy of impressive. Maybe irl they *pop*, but not from where I’m sitting. The dice mechanic, while innovative, seems a bit clunky.
Generally looks like another in the growing line of war/board game hybrids that doesn’t quite do either either one particularly well. I don’t think it’s for me but I starred it, nonetheless.
Blaster was here…
It’s a boardgame. It’s got an element of miniatures collecting but it’s a boardgame.
It is indeed. In fact, its predecessor, Mythic Battles, had no minis in it all.
I’m so very glad this one does. In theory I should hate this game for essentially being a mash-up. One of the things I hate about comics (other than Superheroes) is having all the Superheroes together in the same world at the same time. But I don’t, i absolutely love it. Yes, i want to know who’s harder, Achilles or Leonidas and I don’t care if it’s historically impossible.
Starred as I missed out on an early bird. $99 is a hefty price with the low pound and Dec 17 is a LONG wait. Reckon I’ll succumb but will watch several playtests first. At least, unlike Zombicide: BP it’ll fit in my house. BP is almost impossible to play it takes up so much space just to store 😀
This KS is insane. Loaded the page 8.02 and all the early birds were gone. When I made my pledge they were already nice above funded. I have just looked at it again and it has already doubled it’s amount.
I am curious at what will be added both as add-ons and extras.
Does Bubo Athena’s owl have any special rules?
It’s a ranged attack that Athena can do. I think it might have been mentioned by Warren in the playthrough video during one of Athena’s activations. Can’t remember if he actually did the attack, though.
he did kill the Kraken. sort off?
Wow, I too have backed it, but misssd the early god pledge but ho hum, what’s £81 for all the miniatures we get. I was not bothered about any extras but some of the figures appearing look great and I keep going back to see what else is joining the gods.
I’m not even going to pretend I tried to resist backing this. I was like a junkie going back to the dealer. Just give me that fix of sweeeet plastic crack.
And now you tell me I get Apollo as a Kickstarter Exclusive?
Backed and couldn’t be happier 😀 .
We backed and got in on the early bird. I cannot wait to see what else they have in store for this. This may become our most heavily backed KS. I am still kicking myself for missing out on our appointment to demo this at Gen Con. We just couldn’t get to their site quick enough with the crowds.
Backed, and got in on the early bird as well. Like the game mechanics and looking forward to painting GODS…. 😉
Looks cool. Missed the early bird. No huge incentive to back it just yet … I’ll wait and see how it progresses … thus … I’ll probably forget to back it … such is life .. lol
Wish em’ well and I’m sure it will be a rousing success
Zeus reached down and twisted my arm up behind my back. He refused to let go until I clicked the pledge button.
How can you resist a god telling you that you have to do it?
I dunno, ask Anchises
I have an EB at the moment, but I am still not sure. They have said if this KS does well, there will be other Pantheons in the future. The one mentioned was Ragnarok and that theme is much more to my liking. If this is doing amazing and the other Pantheon seems likely at the end of the campaign, I will drop my pledge and wait. I do not mind if it takes a year or two, I have plenty of other games. That said, if this just limps over 1 million I will probably get it just in case since 1 million is not huge for a mini KS lately.
Backed, the Minatures are looking fantastic. Game play looks great too. Looking forward to getting this on the table but a year is such a long time to wait!
The big minis look great, but something bugs me about the small characters and troops; the posing is very flat, as though somebody took a Reaper Bones mini and stepped on it. No doubt this was for ease of production but it detracts from the look somewhat.
Never backed a Kickstarter before but this was too good to miss out on….
Well I have backed Mythic Battles Pantheon on KS just like 3,000+ other supporters. I am a big Greek Mythology fan as well as a wargamer, so both these things go together like chocolate and peanut butter. 🙂
The minis look awesome and the stretch goals are very good. At the bottom of the KS page it mentions there is a potential for optional buys in the future.Hopefully there will be additional heroes and monsters as optional buys.
Below is my wishlist of future heroes and monsters.
We have the Minotaur so I would love to see Theseus as a hero.
We also have Medusa, so what about Perseus?
As for monsters, Polyphemus the cyclops that was blinded by Odysseus.
Another I would like to see are the Stymphalian Birds. These were giant flesh eating birds with bronze tipped feathers. The birds could use their feathers as projectile weapons.
Imagine a critter that could fly around the board and shoot armour piercing bronze tipped feathers at it’s opponents.
The Stymphalian Birds took ‘angry birds’ to the next level. These critters were ‘angry birds’ on steroids!
Perseus can be seen in the trailer waving Medusa’s head around so I reckon we’ll see him, possibly dependent on the funding tatal raised :).
Hmm, I hadn’t watched the trailer before my previous post. Now that I have watched it, it does look like we might get to see Perseus.
So much stuff to come to us already, with so much more to unlock / add-on, my excitement grows hour by hour. Let alone the possibility of future Pantheons to come, is that Odin in the far-far horizon ? That would be extremely cool 😀 .
Once in a while a KS comes along which sells itself on a grand scale. The last one for me was Conan (which I got this week and which has totally blown me away). This KS inspires the same kind of excitement in me, which in itself is pretty rare, as being a grumpy old fart I find fault with virtually everything these days. But seeing the reaction this has generated around the community I see I’m 100% right in my high expectations for this, so its a definite in for me!
I backed Conan and I’ve only had a quick look at all the stuff in the box, but I’m impressed with what I’ve seen.
I like the idea that you can use the Conan boards for Pantheon, but I wonder if they will consider providing cards to allow the Conan figures in Pantheon and vice versa. CMON did this with Massive Darkness and Zombicide Black Plague, which I thought was a great idea.
I do worry though that it will always end in a massive bundle in the middle of the board?
From what we’ve been told it seem as if the Mythic Battles minis will crossover into Conan, but not the other way around. At least in part the decision seems a thematic one, as Greek mythology fits into Conan but not vice versa.
I’ve played a few games and that’s never been an issue. Careful placement of units is quite important to block movement and lines of sight, one of the two victory conditions involves collecting and absorbing four objectives from across the board, and you can use talents such as Mighty Blow to move enemy units, or Block to hold them in place.
@redben that makes sense.
I’d love however to see some battles between say, Odin and Zeus, Spartans and Huscarls. Who says it needs to be strictly accurate to the individual Pantheon, I reckon it’d be fun.
I agree that stuffing Conan and his mates into the Pantheon Game probably would be a bit odd, but I could easily see some of the units in the Conan game. I also think it would make sense in that if you have backed or bought Conan, you get to expand it even more by backing Patheon.
I’m looking forward to the abstract scenery rather than having ‘discussions’ about who can see what through a window and the zone idea should make for quick play rather than ‘creative’ measuring.
I thought the $15 add on for the demon thingies looked pretty good, but I’m not sure what size those models are.
IIRC Rhadamanthus and Aeacus are ‘human-sized’, so I assume the same size as the likes of Achilles and Heracles, whereas as Minos, who counts as a monster, is a bit bigger.
Scratch that, the Hell Judges look to be a little bigger than the troops. Still $15 sounds fair for 3 plus all the cards/dashboards that come with them.
This game looks interesting. But I haven’t received their first game yet. I’ll be passing on this until I get to see, hold, and play with the Conan stuff.
I just got my copy of Conan and it looks great. I do not care about the rulebook issues because they are fixing them. That said I will not back this project until they let us know if they will fix the component errors, such as using the wrong icons for a large amount of tiles and other card issues. If they will not fix these issues, they will get no more of my money. If they will, I will probably back it just so I can get the Conan stuff. We will see.
It seems very likely that a considerable number of stretch goals are going to be reached in Mythic Battles Pantheon considering the money pledged already three days in to the KS.
It never occurred to me that the Conan and Mythic Battles games might be compatible but I can see people potentially combining the two games. As redben mentioned in an earlier post Greek Mythology would fit into the Conan universe.
I myself have never been involved in one of these debates, but over the years there have always been pop culture debates of ‘who would win a fight out of {insert pop culture} vs {insert pop culture} ie Star Trek vs Star Wars etc.
I don’t think anyone has ever proposed ‘who would win a fight out of Heracles vs Conan’, but when Mythic Battles Pantheon is released, there will be no reason to ask as people will have the rules and stats to find out.
My money would be on Heracles, he is a demi-god after all. 🙂
There have been Conan vs. Hercules before. I think there was even a comic from Marvel back in the late 80s/early 90s. There is quite a bit of Greek mythology used in the Conan universe already. Conan has defeated Gods before, so I wouldn’t give it to Heracles just because he’s got God-powers.
I believe there are plans in place for some MB:P stuff to get cards for Conan, heroes or Overlord minions respectively. I’m looking forward to that, but thank the gods there is plenty going on with MB:P to keep me occupied in the mean time.
I backed this – the demo game BOW showed really hooked me PLUS my Conan pledge arrived recently so I know the sort of thing these guys are capable of – they showed Atlas on the live KS last night – HUGE!
First time that I’ve ever backed anything on kickstarter , just have a question how do I purch ase the expansion or add on ? Any sage advice would be appreciated . thx
All you have to do is raise the amount you’ve pledged by the amount of the expansion or add-on. A few months after the KS ends, a pledge manager will go live in which you’ll select what the money was for. You can usually add a bit more during the pledge manager as well if you want.
thanks redben so I could just make another pledge without choosing a reward at present then?
You don’t need to make a separate pledge. If you go the ‘Manage’ button next to your pledge amount, which is usually shown next to the trailer video at the top of the page and just underneath where the current pledge total and days to go it, click on that ‘Manage’ button and increase the amount you’ve pledged. So if you’ve pledged $99, and want to add the Hell Judges, just increase the amount to $114.
You can keep doing that every time you want to add something.
Thank you again matey very helpful poster greatly appreciated .
