Games Workshop Made To Order Service Bringing Models Back From The Dead?
October 6, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop Salisbury has teased that we're going to be seeing an announcement on October 15th concerning Made To Order Models...
This would mean that a lot of the old models from the Games Workshop catalogue could make a comeback. They have recently been bringing back a number of different models from the Lord of the Rings line for fans including the classic Gandalf most recently.
The models have all been made in metal so one would assume that would be the angle they'd be going with this too. Of course, there's no reason they couldn't fire up some of the old plastic kits too I guess?
We can imagine this being an interesting twist for Games Workshop and it will be interesting to see what effect (if any) it has on the reselling market and the likes of eBay.
Thanks to redben & lordofuzkulak
What do you think of the news?

I would be interested. As someone who always gets into games later than I should, there are a number of models I would like to pick up but cost a fortune on eBay.
Good move. The older stuff is far superior to the scheit they’re making now.
Is that a german word @cpauls1 ?
I hope they bring back war of the ring movement trays
translation : remove the ‘c’ and the ‘e’ … 😉
Hopefully the recast stuff won’t be priced with silly prices (although even silly GW prices would probably still undercut the eBay resellers for popular enough minis). Few thoughts: What material will these be in? Metal? Resin? Plastic? Will it depend on the original material? As the molds are used to make multiple copies of a mini at once (or sets of minis), will you have to wait until enough people have placed an order before they cast them up, or will they cast them for the first order and keep the spares ready for the next people to order? And… Read more »
The only one of those I think can be answered with any confident right now is that it will depend on the original material. Metal minis could be converted to spincast resin (Finecast), but that’s going to be it. In terms of plastics, I can’t see them making new moulds from old masters as that costs a lot of money. So if it’s plastic and they don’t have the mould for it any more, I doubt you’ll be able to get it. I also doubt anything will be offered that they don’t have a master for anymore either, which will… Read more »
If we’re lucky, maybe some enterprising employee salvaged the molds from the skip and will dust them off and sell them back to GW to use again…and maybe said employee will also use the orportunity to sell the masters for all missing Doctor Who episodes back to the Beeb :p
There were definitely some ‘skip retrievals’ here and there. I have seen some impressive collections of product that was destined for the bin.
Let’s hope he’s got the remaining episodes of Evil of the Daleks!
Bring On The Squats!
Shh, don’t let GW hear you say that or they’ll reset the Squat Clock.
😉
I’ll suspect they’ll give us squat …
I dunno if GW will ever bring back metals, they’ve spent a good portion of time phasing it out, along with Failcast.
I fully expect this to mean you’ll be able to order stuff like the Bretonnian and Tomb King plastics, along with stuff like Empire Free Company and Skaven Gutter Runners, etc.
Great news
Maybe this will give me another chance to get some models that I missed as metal like Gabriel Seth.
It would have been nice to see them, remold current metals into plastics, specifically Sisters of Battle and Inquisition characters. Maybe plastic runs of DKoK and Elesium Drop Troops would be cool, to reduce the price of starting a cool detachment.
I always liked the look of the original Chaos Space Marine Raptors and there used to be a techmarine with power axe that I liked.
I really hope they would resume doing that, it certainly was a great feature from them and did allow for crazy conversions.
I remember this many moons ago, should be good depending on the prices?
THIS IS AMAZING!!!! i might actually get to have my original Imperial Guard Kasrkins again!!!!
Hoping they will include the specialist Games range of miniatures. Need me some scabies and Mordheim warbands. Wishful thinking probably.
Thosell probably be the perview of Forge World.
