Games Workshop’s Dreadfleet Unboxed
September 29, 2011 by brennon
We just got our copies of Dreadfleet today and couldn’t wait to get it under our cameras. So we ran into the studio and made a Backstage unboxing but we are putting it out public for a few hours for all too see before putting it under lock and key.
There will be another full unboxing coming soon free for all to watch.

So is it worth the fuzz ?
Look nice, but nice enough? I don’t know I think I’ll skip this one
Good to see it… looks better than my first impressions, still not totally sold but slightly tempted
quaility looks good, but its just not doing it for me, I’ll be passing on this one
i am still not convinced
Well you can sell it online come december. lol
That would ofcause be one reason for getting it but … it would make me feel sleightly dirty to get a games only for that reason 😉
So funny seeing the Uncharted Seas amazon link next to this lol. Nice unboxing though guys, some good looking minis in there. Red Dice is the flaming attack dice btw lol
“The box is tight. Always a good sign”…. I’m really not that picky. Just use a condom guys.
Either way, thanks for doing this. I’m pretty excited to get mine. I really surprised by all the little bits and all the little details. Looks like a quality release.
looks epic but think its not for me ill stick to 40k me thinks
Also in terms of Uncharted Seas these are a little bit too small for the models in the game. You could possibly use them for the smaller capital ships, but size really does matter in Uncharted since it can get a bit unfair if you start to proxy things.
The terrain would be more than useful for Uncharted. Ships…maybe. The larger flagships/battleships are far too big for these Dreadfleet ones. Could possibly work them in as Cruisers…some of the smaller ones might just work as frigates, but its unlikely.
I want a Necro Puss
Please think about what you have written there for five minutes
Five minutes is a bit generous, don’t you think 😛
My local shop had opened a copy today too, that seascape really is very nice.
I want iiiiiiiiit!!!!!!
The sea battlemat looks really nice, but otherwise the game doesn’t really peak my interest. I’ve so much other things planned for this fall, so I’ll let this one pass.
Said it before and I’ll say it again – GW can afford to tool up to produce plastic miniatures for a limited edition board game but they insist on producing sub standard Finecast minis because “it’s too expensive to tool up for small quantities” – do me a favour. Yes you’re right this whole move to limited edition books, games and audio books has irritated me more than all the crap GW has pulled in the past /rant off I do hope Dreadfleet is a huge success if only because I believe GW would pull an Aurelian and magically produce… Read more »
I agree. I purchased the plastic Chaos Sorcerer and thought, “Damn, this is a lot better than Finecast, why aren’t we getting these more often?”
I bought a Finecast Terminator Librarian that same day…. 🙁
Waiting for a replacement…
Nice looking models, but its still a game with absolutely no future support or expandability, which makes it a touch pointless beyond the initial playthrough to me.
Its chief reason to exist seems to be cash injection, for GW themselves (which is understandable) and ebay scalpers.
I doubt we will see it going for £100 plus in 2 years time like space hulk though.
As an aside, the last two warhammer quest boxes on ebay went for £140+ each, new game would sell like hotcakes at £70 – £100 easily, I really think GW are missing a trick there.
AUGH I HATE LANDSCAPE FORMAT RULE BOOKS /faints
And finally I’d be more likely to become a Backstager if there was an alternative to PayPal 😉
Well if I had the money I’d probably buy it – but then it would probably be coldly neglected like my copy of Space Hulk 🙁
I was never in doubt as to the quality but by the time I have the money it’ll probably be sold out. Still, I look forward to your other coverage of it and what people think of it as a game in general.
Just bought it 😀
Thanks for the unboxing. Nice to finally see really what you get for your money beyond the “oh so tempting” glossy pictures of painted up stuff. Generally I’m liking what I’m seeing, and I don’t think the price is toooooo over the top these days (price = 2 Land Raiders or 3 Gandalfs or something). At least by GW’s standards anyways! All that remains are the rules! The big question is “Is it any fun to play?” Followed by “Will I still want to play it a week after I have finally painted it all up?”
Hrmmmmm, I’m tempted but £70 is quite a lot
Guess it’s good for what it is, but I’ll pass. Then again I don’t have £70 to spend on stuff like that – my wargaming budget per year is about £60, I’m just not that rich. I’ll be trying out MERCS instead, more affordable for someone like me.
I’ll be happy if this is a good game, but limited edition ?! As people keep pointing out it’s GAMES Workshop…. I guess the GAMES is turning into video games though …
Great models, reasonable price for an all-in-everything game and all I have left to ponder is how solid is the game. If they put as much effort into making sure it plays well, we have a winner! Thanks for the pre-unboxing BoWboyz!
Well, got my copy today. Opened it, breathed in that oh so lovely smell and started to look at the bits.
Got to say, GW have done an amazing job. I’m actually much more impressed with it than I thought it would be.
Reading the rules right now. Looks great!
