Weekender: AdeptiCon Live Blog & Deadzone: Infestation Kicks Off!
March 21, 2015 by dignity
We had one hell of a weekend last week with the Dropzone Commander Boot Camp but that doesn't mean we're stopping! Welcome to The Weekender!
Don't forget you can head on over and watch all of our Boot Camp Live Blogs on the link above and our AdeptiCon 2015 coverage too before we dive into getting excited over a new expansion to the board game of Spartacus with The Shadow of Death.
Lloyd has also been searching far and wide for some interesting 1/48 scale miniatures and we make sure to bring in John to have a chat with him about it.
Of course it wouldn't be a hobbytastic weekend without some Kickstarters to check out and we have yet another big one from Mantic while Ares Games have delved deep into the archive of MASSIVE planes to bring you Giants of the Sky.
We'll also be announcing the winners of the Dropzone Commander Two Player Starter Sets so keep an ear to the ground to find out if you won!

Happy Saturday Chaps
Shaping up to be a great show 🙂
happy saturday
Fokker was pronounced correctly.
On a side note it means breeder as in some one who breeds dogs or horses.
Nein! Zis ‘Fokker’ vas a ‘Messerschmidt’!!! ; )
don’t forget their was Fokker in WWII as well?
happy Saturday. As for warpath my understanding is Mantic rushed in headlong into it, and are now taking the time with Dreadball and Deadzone to flesh out the races/locations/story. The plan being that all models for Deadzone will work in Warpath, and vice versa. The Deadzone kickstarters have built up quite a reasonable range of unit types and terrain, which combined with the fledgling warpath models that were already released have given quite a selection, for example combining the Warpath and Deadzone minis the Forgefathers have 6-7 units, 3 heavy weapons and a walker. Hmm……. it seems the Forgefathers Iron… Read more »
Mantic have said the FFs would get a resculpt, and the new renders were shown at the last Open Day, and very tasty they looked too.
I originally came into wargaming from scale modelling many many moons ago, and I still prefer a more detailed kit. This is reason why I opted to do Bolt Action in 1/72 scale, plus there is a bigger variety of kits to choose from and it’s cheaper. There are a couple of brands that are more suited to someone who wants to build fast and get the kits onto the table; Plastic Soldier and Armourcast, both of these producers you get multi vehicles in a box, for PS is generally 3 and in the case of Armourcast it’s two. The… Read more »
Great show
Just too bad it seems like it is forcing me to look at 2 great looking Kickstarters …
Hobbyboss are good kits
Happy Saturday to you all 🙂

Thanks for the link @torros, that what I’m after 🙂
@lloyd Airfix coming into wargaming?… you mean returning to wargaming as I recall many historical wargamers used Airfix figures produced in the 60s/70s to get into wargaming. And i understand that they used to do rules.
The original Airfix magazine had lots of wargaming stuff in them , most of it written by people like Donald Featherstone, Charles Grant and Tony Bath etc to name but a few
@commodorerob – good to know, but I would say simpler kits with thicker gun barrels etc. aimed square at gamers is what they should do, what where the kits like in 60s/70s?
Air Fix used to do the battle dioramas in a box this was a molded hollow and very thin plastic base, included troops, vehicles, armors, artillery, and support weapons , basic buildings, tanks, all sundry of scene dressing items and sometimes even aircraft. I had several sets Waterloo, ardennes (WW1), Battle of the Bulge, Monte Casino, Iwo Jima , and I am thinking Berlin (all WW2) , Viet Nam (1960’s- 1970’s ) all in 1/72nd scale Okay they did not usually include rules- and it was meant to be a build, paint and set up a display scene- but you… Read more »
I both love you guys and hate you. You have got me back into war gaming which I Love . You got me to play something other than WH40K. which I am eternally grateful for. As when I found you guys and I was thinking of getting back into the hobby it was straight to a Games Work Shop local store . I even had a demo booked in this store- I got lucky that at work I had an emergency job came up so I missed that demo as I was planing to take and spend £300 which is… Read more »
But I think that when my Allied Red Devils arrive they are going to be a traitor unit for my Axis Army.
Oh btw the allied allied forces I have are painted as original Dark Angels- Black with red trim and designs
*Skips the video to see the DzC winners* Oh well, congratulations to the winners 😀
Now I’m gonna enjoy the Weekender episode, always a great show ^_^
Discworld T-Shirt Sam?
Happy Saturday guys. See you at Salute.
Happy Saturday chaps, have a lovely weekend 🙂
The three card movement system is the best thing about Wings of War/Glory. It’s really tactical and really makes you plan out what you think your opponent will be doing and what you think your opponent thinks you’ll be doing. The stripped down version of it in X-Wing loses a lot of this.
Quite so Redben, practical proof of the ease of assimilation of this mechanic, was made perfectly clear to me the first time I introduced my 13 year old granddaughter to Wings of War, I didn’t think she would enjoy it so much, but after learning how to play in 5 mins, she lost the first game, then soundly thrashed me over the next 3 scenarios!! All played in less than an hour and a half too! The after action chat included her asking “can we play this again the next time I visit?” Worthy praise indeed for the game.
The reason that planes in Wings of War (now Wings of Glory) had a tighter turn one way, was because of the gyroscopic effect of the rotation direction of the air screw. This creates a nice little tactical option to attempt in dog fighting, trying to maintain the proverbial ‘high ground’ on your opponent! Another GREAT! Weekender guys, thank you.
I was wondering about that when they mentioned it. Makes obvious sense in retrospect. Thanks!
Hah! That sound you make when you open the box and see how many parts the model kit comes in.. I purchased an MG Jesta for my son because he loves giant robots and I was totally unprepared for what was inside the box (e.g. about 1000 pieces on 20 sprues) but you know what, we’re having fun building it together and it does look pretty darned sweet so far!

As for MDF.. did somebody say trains? TTCombat have a range although I wish it was all listed on their store because eBay links will expire fairly quickly:

Great vid again guys. I love HobbyBoss stuff. They get a lot of stick in the modelling world for not being as millimeter accurate or quite as detailed as the Tamiya’s of this world, but the last one of theirs I bought was the 1/32 spitfire, which was £35, the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire is an incredible feat of plastic engineering, but it is also £120, for us mere mortals with only average skills, the hobbyboss is a great option. I’ve always found their kits easy to make. The live blogging is, by the way, probably the most innovative feature you… Read more »
“I’ve always found their kits easy to make” – that’s what I want to here 😉

Nice episode.
Wings of Glory looks like fun. Does anyone know if the WW2 version is as good?
