Warhammer 40K Unboxing: Stormfang
April 29, 2019 by dignity
Justin and Gerry are back in the studio to take a look at Stormfang for the Space Wolves faction of Warhammer 40K.
Someone at Games Workshop has had a fun time making this model as Gerry rightly points out that they have essentially made a flying dog head. What is seen cannot be unseen, the guys carry on with their worlds fundamentally changed forever. Gerry gives the quickest and most efficient advice on transfers and Justin comments on the cold war mentality at some gaming clubs.
What animal would you like to see Games Workshop convert into an Astartes flying vehicle?

Oh look! A flying shoebox! XD
Gerrys is right it is a flying Doges head , now I see it can’t unsee it!
It does have a uncanny resemblance to some of the heads of Renaissance Venice
Yucky typing again, but you are probably right!
What has been seen cannot be unseen!
Thats interesting unboxing out of the blue
It’s like you guys know I’ve been looking at Space Wolves over the last few days, nice to et a look in, another great GW kit
…and yes, it’s a damn dogs head that can now not be unseen 😀
Good tips on the transfers. Gloss varnish is the key and also being confident with the transfers. Don’t worry about messing them up, everyone messes the odd one up and you can always get more!
nice flyer
So we have the head, now all
s we need is the body to go with it..................I do have a small Wolves force and this would be a nice addition, but as i
m not looking at adding anymore minis this may have to stay on the shelf.
liking the look of it, but theres something missing (to me that is). If i figure it out, i`ll let you know.
I know it is a flyer because Justin hid the wings (4 off) under his finger.
Yes. Flyers are a bit sh*t for 40k. I only like the Imperial guard one just because it’s a cool model. Not to put in my army. The scale is to big for flyers. They should bring Epic back and put flyers in there.
Cannot unsee that dogs head. Not a fan of this kit myself but love the space wolves. They were my first 40k army. Decals are a real pain at times but I’ve found Humbrols Decalfix has helped me applying and fixing transfers. Gives you that bit extra time and moisture to adjust the transfer before it dries out and adheres
it’s not a dog, it’s a wolf. remember the old adage, Wolves eat Dogs. and while we are on it….the Wolves eat dogs theory
1. They see them as a threat
2. They are both territorial
3. They descended from the same genus and wolves see dogs as abomination since they have been domesticated and thus not true to the genus.
4. All of the above
5. None of the above since wolves eat anything ( including people )
Oh, this looks soooo cool. I love the paint job on the image you show above. Putting it together looks like a lot of work and it would terrify me.
I’d like to see a few more cat themed animals. We’ve seen a lot of Canine themes between the Wolf iconography and the Warhound and Canix Rex. Let the felines off the chain
I have one and they are fun.
I have one of these myself, with the intention of getting a second. They’re fantastic troop transports and upgunned to the nines! Love it.
Great kit, got a little bit of Doctor Who’s K9 about it as well, so nice my Wolves have three!
It doesnt quite seem to fit the scale, but make it any larger and it won’t fit the table. I suspect this is a running problem with 40k vehicles, especially flyers
The kit’s been around a while, and with a second look … nah it still looks bloody daft to my eyes.
I actually love the look of this beast!
I have one built and painted, another in the box still in my pile of shame.
I made the transport, used to love running it with loads of mad blood claws inside! Not used it this edition I must confess though
After all this time since this model was released I still can’t get over fact that it’s flying dog head. I get that with 40k designs realism isn’t most important but not only Stormfang looks far too silly to my taste but also really in-practical as far as it’s design goes. If I had to rank Imperial flyers Stormfang would be at bottom of that list.
Cool Wolves’ head in Space Wolves colors , well done.
Its the flying brick for smashing into attack targets
Short and sweet (and @avernos ) but no build one in the end ?
It looks about as aerodynamic as a brick – But I still kinda like it – might be the semiviking iconography
I still think this flyer doesn’t look like its got enough wing span to, well, fly.
about as aerodynamic looking as a house brick…..
Really tempted to pick up one or two of these kits at some point, but I want to try and make Drop Pods work first 🙂
