Warhammer 40K Unboxing: Shadowspear
March 20, 2019 by dignity
Justin and John manage to get their hands on a copy of Shadowspear from Games Workshop.
Shadowspear is something that Warhammer 40K fans have been quite excited about. New units are always something to be excited about but the Venom Crawler, in particular, is quite something. The new Obliterator looks like a jacked up Bane from Batman so make sure your Tom Hardy impersonation is spot on when rolling it out on the table.
Which side in this new battle box are you most excited for Space Marine or Chaos?

The Chaos Marines are Awesome.
I love the Possessed type marines and the chaos leader
If you got Justin some glasses it could be like the two Ronnies…
The minis for this are fantastic, I’m glad to see Chaos getting a much needed rework of the basic marines. They’ve finally toned down the crazy with them and have made it to where the models are actually easy to look at now. The major issue I have with this box is the price point. While the minis are fantastic the box feels very spartan to me without the terrain we’ve started to get used to seeing in their box sets. I would have loved to see them add in some chaos themed terrain into the box set, even if… Read more »
Some of the Legions have turned traitor… what ever could have possessed them…
The Chaos Marines go in the “pending” pile, but those Vanguard are perfect for my long overdue for a revamp Raptors force. Paired with Lias Issodon – their Chapter Master from the FW Badab War books – you can have some real fun with deployment shenanigans…..
Love those Chaos. Can’t wait to see what people do with them other than Black Legion.
With the daemonic theme, I’d hope to see some Word Bearers out there.
A starter box with no cardboard, not even the box itself ?
I would be interested to know how they scale with Primus and old-fashioned marines, (Scale creep).
Anything is better than the old obliterators.
Awesome set of minis there. The one thing i have enjoyed about revisiting the GW range over the years has been watching the steady increase of quality in the design work that just never seem to stop improving. I have to agree with Justin on his opinion of the pose they chose for the captain of what is supposed to be a stealthy infiltration force even though the mini itself is very nice to look at. Also even though i am and always will be a fanatical warrior of the Imperium, i must say that the Chaos forces have never… Read more »
I’ll be picking up most of the Primaris models for my entry into Kill Team. And that Librarian seems like a perfect fit if I decide to try the Commander rules. Will some of these models get rules in the new Elites expansion?
these would be such a blast to paint up
this is looking like a good one to get multiples of. Definitely have to look for some alternate guns to give the drop guys, really not liking the look of those but everything else looks cool.
Love it guys!
I’m super excited to get down on Saturday and pick up my copy. I play marines and chaos so its perfect for me!
The Librarian is certainly one of the nicest infantry sized models Ive seen in a while, but also those standard Chaos marines stand out!
wasn’t going to get this but it is now calling to me
Justin might want to check his maths; late 80s was 30 years ago, not 40.
I don’t see anything wrong with the vanguard force having heavy support; a) as John points out it’s heavy for them, not heavy as in artillery batteries, and b) it lets someone running a pure vanguard force be able to fill out FOC slots.
As a Thousand Sons player, that Master of Possession scares me. ?
I’m really liking the new daemon engines GW has designed for Chaos.
the new space marines are friging wonderful looking figures.
do like the look of this box set like the look of both sides…
im slowly getting into 40k I haven’t got a lot of spare cash and its not the cheapest system to get into when all your friends that play have got loads, so i been collecting the Conquest mag and been painting the Deathguard side.
but have to ask can I use the chaos figures in the deathguard or are these a total different chapter. As they do so different to the figures of the deathguard.
This box is amazing! So much needed updates for chaos and cool new marines. I love it. It’s expensive but if I can budget one in I’ll buy it.
Nothing wrong with groups of 3 Justin.. Inceptors and Agressors both are like that.
Really loving the box sets these days! Lovely new sculpts, packed full of mini’s and printed content!
Space marines are getting better and better…..
I’m with Justin in that the backpacks, and the chaos guys in general could use variety, but that box appears to have it. However, Chaos is not chaotic so that argument doesn’t actually carry. Each god is obsessed with one thing and everything they do is devoted to it. That is oder, not chaos. Except for Tzeench whos obsession is change so constant change is chaotic.
I’m looking through the photos on GW’s site for Shadowspear and all the Space Marines are looking at something. It makes me wonder what is there slightly down and to the right, since they’re all looking that way and looking puzzled…Maybe it’s the strange new fashion of some on their comrades?
