Darrell takes a look at the latest set of plastic feudal Samurai from Wargames Factory.
I’ve been looking at these and the ashigaru for a Mordheim warband …
I want those, i have been looking for a nice looking samoerai model for Fantasy.
They look a lot better on the table than the CG renders from a few weeks back would suggest, far less stiff poses, though maybe they need a tiny bit of care when assembling the legs to avoid the leaning back pose.
@cazboab … This is Darrell we’re talking about… we’re lucky it’s attached to the base and that they don’t have every weapon in the box stuck to them!
A very good point sir.
Actually as a character one would probably look quite good with some sheathed swords on his sides and one in each hand…
No that’s the way they should look like. That’s the sneaky tip toe samurai I read about.
I like them over all. Lots of options. Hope to see some sattled samurai from them.
Really liked this review, would also like to see a review of their sci-fi heavy weapons kit.
Nice to finally see these in the flesh as it were, not bad models at all.
Perhaps for Backstage I might kitbash these with some Imperial Guard.
Samurai Guardsmen… anyone fancy them?
I’ve already have a Lasgun Tanegashima made somewhere. might be time to get casting…
@cazboab can you post a pic of the lasgun please? 🙂
Technically yes, but for practical purposes not until I find it. It was made along side a bunch of shotguns a desert eagle-ish pistol and an M16, which I do have pictures of handy, and I’m pretty sure some of the green stuff and plasticard chunks in the back ended up as the las-lock stock.- http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/3686/scratchguns.jpg If the worst come to the worst and I cant find it to take pics I’ll make another one(or more likely 5 to 6 different ones to pick the best one..) in a couple days.
Well, welcome to the gunshow 🙂
Nice work, seriously nice.
Thanks @clixrbetter, I dont think I’ll find the original for @manpug , but I’ve started rough work on some others: http://www.beastsofwar.com/rama/minirama-scifi/some-lasgun-variantalternatives/
YES! I WISH TO SEE IMPERIAL GUARD-SAN!
I agree that they look a lot better as solid objects, and they fixed the scabbard error.
The “short sword” is called a Wakizashi by the way.
These are very cool. For the amount of bits you get it’d be a great set to convert other models into Samurai too. I’d like to see some of the armour and weapons combined with an undead army of skeletons, undead samurai would be scary as heck!
an ig army or a templar army. would probly use them for necrons buy painting them like rock with katanas in hand as gose pikes for war syths.
I have been waiting for these for a long time and they look nice. I think a box or to might end up my way.
I wouldn’t find much use for samurai themselves but I would add an extra katana/wakizashi to pretty much every Yu-Jing figure I own if I got a box of these guys.
Looks like he assembled them to create an army from the Ministry of Funny Walks 🙂
but that’s because WF never accepted feedback on the tippy-toe pose 🙁
Those are rather nice.
wow awesome kit, I’m realy thankfull that you reviewed them
I was looking for good plastic samurais for a long time and you get an ass-load of things in it for only 20 bucks oO? what more can you hope for^^
I am working on a Samurai Army for Warhammer Fantasy. L5R models and these shall work just fine. Something is Rising in the far East!
These look great! Im thinking I’ll buy a box just to paint them as display models.
Wargames Factory is a class act. I have a ton of Chaos Marau…Medieval Germans and they’re gr-r-r-eat.
have a look on the wargames factory site they have now also got samurai dudes with guns/bows and guys with spear things
These do look like a really good deal. The lamellar armor was pretty common every where, even in Europe before plate started to dominate (more eastern Europe though)… the helmet and katana design is what makes samurai look Japanese-y so you could switch out the heads and the weapons and they’d fit in pretty much any army. I was thinking they’d be good to substitute in for a Dark Elves force. Switch out the heads and you’re good to go. DE already have a somewhat Asian look to them. You could also do a Byzantine themed force using the bretonnian… Read more »
They’d work well as Elven bodies, I’m not sure about Europeans.
Personally, I think the Japanese construction of armour is too many stages removed from the European and Byzantine styles.
IMO
More lace, smaller plates laquered together, and generally solid or side stripped Dô in the Sengoku. It would only work well with Dô Maru, and Tsuzumi Dô as far as I could see, which is more Genpei War than Sengoku.
I have a number of Perry minatures and was looking to possibly expand to create a unit of Ii Samurai. In fact some really good plastic ones would fit the bill nicely. Darrel you managed to convince me that I will not be buying these. The poses you managed to create went from mad orc dance to messed his pants. You clearly had a laugh doing it but I will wait in the hope the Perry twins decide to do samurai in plastic I think. Otherwise I will stick with their metal range and build slowly. Wargames factory it seems… Read more »
I like the look of the Samurai. Is there any chance of you guys doing a review of their Viking Huscarls, I’m keen to see an up close look of them too. They should keep Darrel happy as I think you get 32 in a box.
From cyber punk to steam punk- I do find myself at times searching for a great historical war game…
This has given me something to look at, Is this just a line of Mini’s or is there an actual game that these come from. Sooner or later I will settle down into a historical themed game.
At the shop I go to everyone always says Historical games are for old folks. Looking at these I would say lets not fall to urban legends such as that.
Just checked store out we need Ninja’s !!!
these look awesome was only thinkin the other day of a japanese style marine force and now i can get all i need to make it yay!
Guys, please do some research on terms before you do a video.
for instance, “your many banners” the “banners” described are termed sashimono.
Samurai is also singular and plural at the same time, hence Darrel’s “samurai’s” is wrong.
