Its a Hellsteed!
Aside from what GW calls them, wouldn’t that be Pegasi?
pegasus is the singular I believe, pegasi is the ploural
Picked up this mini to use for dual use in V.C. and Dark Elf armies. Lots of detail, especially on the horse itself. Lots of exposed muscle and bone. Beautiful model overall. My main issue with this mini is the size. I’m surprised that @darrell never mentioned it, but it’s more like 20mm than 28mm, so it’s not going to scale well with the rest of your minis….it doesn’t even scale well with the rest of Mantic’s range. That’s been a particular issue that I’ve had with all of Mantic’s mounted hero blisters. They are all so TINY! I’d be… Read more »
How does it scale with Mantic’s own Revenant Cavalry though? I know the horses are a bit smaller than WHFB horses but is there internal consistency?
I have the Revenant cav as well and I’m quite happy with them. The lord on peg is MUCH smaller. Revenant cav is only slightly smaller then 28 mm so it still looks alright in my army. If I could add pictures to this thread I’d do a side by side comparison with peg/revenant/GW model. Rev cav is actually a reasonable size. Mantic’s orc boar riders, however, are ridiculously tiny. Elf on dragon is even smaller. In terms of scale, Mantic’s KoW range can be all over the map. Troops are consistent, but everything else needs to be investigated before… Read more »
I can see that its some what small. Besides that, it looks like a well made model.
@t9nv3 – I’d be interested in a scale comparison if you have a flickr account or something since I’ve not seen them all together in any pics yet (and I’m especially interested in how they all look next to Morgul Knights). I have seen scale pics on Brueckenkopf of the Gore Riders though, they’re smaller than current Boar Boyz but about the same as the old ones that still pull the chariot so I think I’d be fine with them.
Here is a full side by side comparison of Revenant, HE Dragon prince, KoW peg, and a dark elf COK.

@t9nv3 – Perfect. 😀 Looks like the steed is fine but the vamp might be a little small (the shine makes it hard to tell). Not a dealbreaker for me though unless I put him with heroic scale stuff, which means there are two ways to awesome VC cavalry for me:
– Hellsteed lord using a Chaos horse and the Terrorgheist rider, new plastic Black Knight kit and Dragon Princes with new bitz and red paint (heroic route)
– Hellsteed lord/Black Knights using Mantic kits, then Morgul Knights for the heavy hitters (true-scale route)
Thanks again for the pics! 😀
Mantic’s Orc Boar riders are SO TINY that their size actually moves them into “fail” territory, despite being wonderful sculpts. They’d look great in your glass cabinet, painted up – but on a battlefield, any battlefield, they look stupid.
Mantic really dropped the ball which sucks ’cause they’re bloody great models.
Indeed it is a nice model but Mantics big things just don’t scale well into fantasy as I learnt when I got the dragon which is smaller then my stegadon though it was just for when Tehenhauin turned into a dragon so for skink to only become that big makes some sense.
Still the models are nice and the infantry and cavalry still work (most of the time) and I know for dang fact I’m using mantics skels for my undead when I get to that part,
hmmmm.
Interestingly it doesn’t look like it would fit easily into the box it came in, which is a shame, as one of the selling points of mantic minis is that they’re convenient to store. Is there an alternate assembly method that would flatten it enough to go back in the box it came in?
Its a great mini…and no it cant go back in its box when its assembled (well maybe if you leave the wings off it might
