Unboxing: Waterloo – Quelle Affaire!
June 7, 2016 by dignity
UPDATE: Join us this Friday for the ULTIMATE Beasts of War grudge match.
Many of you who have followed our demo games and battle reports, have seen first hand the rivalry build between Justin and Warren, and the Dice God's have never been shy to intervene in the matches they play.
Waterloo represents the ultimate challenge for any armchair general, can Justin repeat history an destroy not only Warren but his legacy?? Or can Warren channel the spirit of Bonepart himself and right a 200 year old wrong, and cement himself as the greatest arm chair general in the BoW studios!
We're gonna find out on Friday, in the mean time... Place Your Bets!
It's time we've got Alessio to unbox the fantastic Waterloo: Quelle Affaire! from Riverhorse.
The box contains a variety of tokens all of which are double side printed and it even has a unique play on the night before, where you can rally your troops to certain locations to make advantageous plays for the day ahead.
Make your speeches bold and shine those boots for lots of epic scenarios!
"By God sir, I've lost a leg!"

This is my go to game when I go to a game night with my buddy. Took me weeks before I finally won as the French, but it was always super close. This game is fantastic.
I backed this on kick starter and loved the game and artwork when it arrived. I use this game in my military history class to show the movements and tactical choices each commander had. The students come in for lunch and have a quick play. A great game with awesome mechanics.
I got this through KS fab game Alessio is a genius 🙂
Have a similar game for Gettsyburg (divisional / brigade command tactical, hex-based depiction of historical battlefield, phased force introduction, some deviation allowed for what-if scenarios), published by Avalon Hill years ago. Great fun, actually got my “mother-in-law” of all people to play (a big ACW buff).
Looking forward to the Justin-Warren throw-down! Victory to Lord Justington! 😀

Here you can find my italian review. Great game 😉
looks great had the airfix version in the 70/80s.
will their be 2.5d models coming out for the game?
I’ve had some great things off kickstarter and this is definitely amongst my favourites.
Well this is an appetiser not long now before the main course @warzan v @dignity Let’s see who will pound the longest. 😉
I believe Warren will have the larger of the pounding implements but if Justin can hold out he can have Warren wedged between two implements and pound twice as hard.
The art looks great. I’ll have to withhold judgement on the gameplay until I have a chance to try it, or see your battle there, but I am optimistic about it.
I’m on TeamJustin! Go on lord Justin, show those frog eaters and snail lovers who’s got the bigger balls!
I sort of remember a few years back that FFG had a similar game but with plastic figures and won a couple of awards for best historical game of the year and promises of expansions and then nothing happens. Anybody else remember this?
FFG did Tide of Iron which was a hex based WW2 game with minis
@craddock169, you’re right. It was called Battles of Napoleon: The Eagle and the Lion. As I understand it, this was made by FFG, under license from Nexus Games. It was intended to be the start of a series, but then Nexus Games went under, so presumably because of this, FFG’s license went and the game went out of print.
As far as I know, no one has picked up the IP.
Thanks for that, pity because from what I can remember it was a good solid game.
I don’t know anything about the game but the art changes you made are amazing!!! That is awesome 😀
the picture of justin and warren as wellington and napoleon is awesome! looking forward to the battle report!
yep.
Now we know for sure that Warren’s ancestor is Napoleon Bonaparte … 😉
I wonder … is he looking that sad because he already knows that Justin Wellington is going to win for real this time ?
😉
I love all things relating to the Peninsular war, this game just adds to that in spades.
By the way, loving the picture for Justin and Warrens grudge match, Warren in particular seems to have captured the very essence of Napoleon, the expression on his face is just superb.
Looks great. Not got a copy but £30 looks like a reasonable price so it is going on the list. Come on Justin, my money’s on you. Probably a triumph of hope over expectation but at least you have history on your side this time.
Lol that picture is hilarious
Yet another game purchase hangs in the balance regards how it plays on Friday. Dust forget Justin Wellington to tell your plan when pestered by your underlings, just in case you fall my lord?”
Your answer bold and loud is, “Why to beat the french sir’s!”.
we are both looking forwards to this game we hope it delivers. By the way those graphics of you two chaps looks the business, especially the superior look from Justin and Warren those piles look like they are really playing up, poor old bony.
Looks good. I didn’t back it as I am already up to my eyes in games. But I have a 6mm Napoleonic army, and replacing the tiles with mini dioramas might be a nice touch. I look forward to seeing the game on Friday (I’m backing Napoleon!)
Looks fantastic! This will probably end up being my first historical game (aside from Risk) that I will purchase
Woah!!! The Art is Amazing! Warren and Justin look so Refined and Distinguished!
Lol. Please stop with “Kwell” affaire it’s “Kell”… phonetically.
Justin Wellington Vs. Warren Bonaparte, Quelle affaire !
No kidding, guys, you make my day!
Justin, sincerely, I love you, man, but Warren as Napoleon, how could a French like me couldn’t support Warren ! (and he gives me a hug at Salute, so ! 😉 )
Vive l’Empereur !
argh… “gave” me at Salute
like the Banner a lot ;), Warren (@warzan) is perfect as Boney and doesn’t Justin (@dignity) scrub up well 🙂
My last play trough took 6,5 hours, looking forward to the battle report.
i’d totally have those portraits up on my wall and see if anyone would notice they aren’t actually wellington and napoleon 😛
Looking forward to this also……. And some one has to say it the banner at the top of this article is brilliant. Justin makes a very dapper Wellington and Warren a suitably world weary Napoleon. Justin I hope you win mate, but i think Warren with his superior Waterloo knowledge has you covered, The French should have won at Waterloo (numerically) Warren knows it , and regrettably as I’d rather see your side win, I fear you are in for a pounding.
