Unboxing: Knight Models’ Watchmen!
January 6, 2015 by elromanozo
Who watches the Watchmen? Well in this case it's Romain and Justin as they jump out of the Batman universe and into the realm of the Watchmen.
We have five members of the group for your viewing pleasure, Silk Spectre II, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, The Comedian and Rorschach. All these awesome minis are from Knight Models.
Which one would you choose?

The minis are fully playable in BMG. I think they can only be fielded with each other, though, and you can’t mix them in with the Batman universe minis. That would likely explain why there’s no Dr. Manhattan mini, as his power level is way too high for the game. Is reading a generational thing, Justin ;). I normally try and avoid being “that guy” who goes on about the book being so much better than the film, but in this case the book is so much better than the film lol. Most of the depth has been stripped out… Read more »
Couldn’t agree with you more… 🙂
Romain, the fact that you love the comic and Justin loves the film is more to do with sound judgement than age.
Every film Justin mentions enjoying is invariably dire 😉
i likes the bright lights…
Well I love them both and I’m proper clever me.
My mate used to be a barman at a strip club in Leeds and he rang me late one night to say Matthew Goode (Ozymandiaz) was in the building! He then went for a cig with him and rang me and I got to talk to the fella! He was proper cool and even said he felt he ruined the movie! Me and my mate put paid to that talk from him. Top bloke and he did a solid turn in the movie.
Lucky you ! He was indeed top notch in the film.
Also, there’s apparently no trace of any Manhattan mini from Knight models… I must have dreamt it !
The Silk Spectre mini is indeed quite a thing. Female body proportions all correct for a change and looking very dramatic alongside a properly sturdy Nite Owl.
As a fan of the graphic novel and the film I find Adrian’s costume a little off the mark. It’s ok but doesn’t match the authenticity of the others. Rorschach and The Comedian hit the mark though.
Oh my those are really cool. I love their faithfulness to the movie (actor likeness). Will definitely be asked to paint a few for friends I’m sure!
Aw man. There’s that “no new miniature ranges” resolution flying out the window!
Yes, yes the minis are lovely … but more importantly lets talk movies. I actually agree with Justin on this one. I loved the watchmen film. It has one of the best opening credits sequences of any modern movie, where the whole back story is played out. The acting is top notch, the cinematography is just beautiful. Most of all, I thought the ending of the film was better than the graphic novel. !!Spoiler alert!! The whole fake alien squid thing just felt silly and totally out of keeping with the tone of the rest of the book. The film’s… Read more »
The film is an entertaining enough watch. Snyder is not a particularly gifted storyteller and Watchmen is not an easy book to adapt into a film, but he has flair and strong source material. The changed ending allowed for a number of sub-plots to be dropped that would have made the film run well over three hours, but it isn’t without its own issues. Another spoiler alert!! The point behind’s Veidt’s plan is to present an external threat to the world that forces the two superheroes to put their hostilities to one side. Dr. Manhattan is not that. From the… Read more »
I think this is a pretty good reflection on what the film loses in its translation, some unavoidable, others down to Snyder, yet still acknowledging that the film stands on its own as an entertaining love letter to the book.

“The point behind’s Veidt’s plan is to present an external threat to the world that forces the two superheroes to put their hostilities to one side.”
Obviously I’ve got superheroes on the brain. I of course mean “the two superpowers”.
All valid points @redben . I’m not usually one for “is the film better/worse than the book?” debates. Films and books are such different experiences that the comparison is usually invalid anyway.
What I can say is that I enjoyed the movie more than I enjoyed the book. Then again, I prefer movies to books. I prefer movies to pretty much everything, yes, even wargames. So 9 times out of 10 I’m going to prefer the movie to the book anyway.
Nor am I. Like I say in my initial comment, I generally try and avoid being “that guy” and treat each on its merits. I think both book and film have problems with the ending, they just have slightly different ones. I wouldn’t even say that anyone who enjoyed the film should the read book as I suspect many wouldn’t like the book as much. The experience is very different and liking one doesn’t mean you’ll like the other.
Hmm … Thumbed down for liking a film. Harsh 🙁
I like the film, so a thumbs up from me 🙂
It’s unavoidable that the book loses a lot in translation to film. The Watchen is packed full of all kinds of themes and ideas that it’s often bordering on the self indulgent. The fact that the film makers were able to make such a coherent movie out of something which was often said to be unfilmable, is actually quite an achievement.
Generational difference? I thought that Justin was older than Romain! 😀
Awww… You are sweet ! 🙂
i would have love that roscharch had his pistol out, insteazd his hand on his pockets, more dynamic that way.
On reagards to hte movie, o love it, i know is hard that some things where left but for got sakes there are 12 book of this thing. The new ending is more appeling to me cause is less ficticious, on the original he is force to leave beacause he thinks he is the source of the alien invasion, here he is jsut simply blame for the doomsday which is more simple yet it works perfectly.
It’s not hard that some things were left out. The movie is its own thing and it stands and falls on its own merits. It sacrificed depth for flair, which doesn’t mean it wasn’t still enjoyable, only that it fails to fully capture what made the source material great. Either way, it in no way affects the reading of the book, and can still be enjoyed on its own merits. Dr. Manhattan isn’t forced to leave at the end of the book and he doesn’t think he’s the source of the alien invasion. You might be confusing that with the… Read more »
