Unboxing: Empress Miniatures’ British Warrior & Infantry
May 5, 2015 by dignity
We are looking at modern warfare as John is joined by Keith from Empress Miniatures to show off an impressive British Warrior IFV and a group of Infantry to go along with it, including a bomb-sniffing dog.
The Warrior has been in action since the eighties right up til today and is recognisable from its use during the first Gulf War. The Infantry on show include mine detector operator, a medic, and a mortar operator and team.
Which infantry miniature is your favorite?
I have the Empress Australians, awesome models, one of them was even modeled after a mate of a mate of mine. They’re getting painted up in the new AMCU, hoping to use them for Force on Force, Sangin, and maybe the Black Ops game from Osprey later this year. I might have to check the Vehicles section for them. I need some ASLAVs and an M1A1 I think.
Very cool… I’m not sure if I’d personally game current conflicts but I’m interested in this for some near future stuff that I’ve been planning.
Zombie games or post-apocalype – they will look awesome. Their Humvee is one of the nicest gaming models I have ever bought.
Yup! That’s just why I have my Stryker rifle platoon.. a National Guard unit to hold back the tide of undead. I actually saw the Warrior IFV at Salute and it dwarfed my Strykers! It’s every bit as nice as the video suggests 😀
Not really what I’m into personally, but it’s very cool someone out there is doing the current day stuff and doing it very well by the looks of it!
It has to be the MWD and handler. When I first started buying modern stuff I bought their snipers – stunning. However, I decided on 20mm in the end.
Pity – that Warrior is fantastic. All their vehicles are, the MRAP is a work of art.
A few ‘extras’ and you could create an awesome convoy!
oooooooooooooo that is nice might get a few for my IG change out then Chimera if the scale will be ok
Yes, could work great with the guard. Looks very nice!
I saw these figures at Salute this year and cast my critical eye over them; I finished 24 years in the Army in 2014 and I have to say these sculpts are great. The detail on the weapons and kit is spot on…well, as spot on as 28mm can be. I was so impressed I bought a set.
So sweet !!
What system would be a good entry point into modern war era tabletop in 28mm ?
I’ve ordered ‘Force on Force’ as rules sets such as ‘Skirmish Sangin’ are a little too soon & close to the bone for me. That being said I can see why those rules would appeal to people.
Thay got some nice vehicles going to have to get a challenger and paint it up as my tank
I have some of their US and British infantry, very nice figs all around.
The middle eastern insurgency, modern Russians and PLA are pretty nice too. They have more “realistic” Proportions then say lots of heroic scale figs out there.
Highly recommended.
Great looking minis. GKN Sankey was the original manufacturer of the MCV80 (Warrior). There was some controversy over the design and some changes had to be made – the rear door had to have a ram added as it was impossible to work with if the vehicle was not parked on perfectly flat ground.
a nicely detailed looking unit.
I just got some and they are amazing quality and detail. But I disagree with the comments on scale. In the video he claims the figures are “true 28mm” and the vehicles 1/50. My US infantry are 30mm to the eye. They are a head taller than my Bolt Action troops and just a hair shorter than my 1/48 scale Dust Tactics figures. The vehicles seem about right but I don’t have any other moderns in the scale to compare them to.
But unless you plan on mixing them this doesn’t matter but if you do you might want to check.
For rulesets try Force on Force or the upcoming expansion to Chain of Command from TooFatLardies. I haven’t seen Skirmish Sangine myself but have heard some good things about it. And of course almost any WW2 or SciFi ruleset could be used in a pinch.
