Unboxing – World War III: Team Yankee Challengers | Battlefront Miniatures
April 6, 2020 by johnlyons
Today we get to have a look at the new Challenger Armoured Troop for World War III Team Yankee.
John is at maximum hype level for this unboxing as he gets to look at the Challengers for the British in Team Yankee. The box comes with five tanks with the possibility of different armour variants. This is a box that brings Team Yankee up to date as far as it needs to be in John's eyes.
What is your favourite tank of the Cold War period?

Good to see John back, with tanks!!
I’m building a formation of these right now, and it’s a great kit, with some small technical improvements over the first generation of Team Yankee models that have made them a joy to build.
Lovely kit
The magnet holes and plastic dohickey to glue in are a great touch. Goodoneyer Battlefront.
Flying Gerry Cans! Uiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! XD
What a shock… John unboxing tanks… I can’t see Justin getting a chance to do it with John in the office.
I went all in this time around buying up lots of British units to build a worthy battle group.
This kit is a really nice set and great for adding to the British Starter Set.
Don’t tell the Mrs. but I’m pretty sure I’m buying at least another box of these.
The new plastic Harrier kits are fiddly in the extreme.
Ohhhh, I’ve not opened that one up yet!
M advice is to build the rocket and bomb sections to one side and then attach to the wing. If you try to build them on the wing it is worse. There are some very small/thin bits that are easy to lose or break when snipping and cleaning up. Be patient.
Yes, you can definitely tell that they are repurposed “scale models” rather than gaming pieces per see. As a 50+-year-old, my advice to others similarly in the full flush of middle age is making sure you have good lighting, get some decent tweezers and make sure your assembly area is “ping proof” – my days of scratting around on floors trying to find part 34 which flew off the sprue when I clipped it are distinctly numbered! They look lovely when finished (provided you assemble the rockets/bombs with their pylons as separate assemblies before attaching to the planes… as mentioned)… Read more »
These kits are great fun to build. As an aside, has anyone tried playing TY with an alternating activation system? Or a bag drawer system? I am thinking of coloured cubes in a bag, to make the game a bit more dynamic.
So, like Bolt Action? We’ve used that mechanic in several game to change things up a bit.
Any news on plastic infantry for the British?
I’ve been wondering the same thing.
I ran out and bought as many companies of metal British as I could find. Can’t have a real fighting force without Infantry!
a video about tanks … with John … and it is only 5 minutes ?
What the heck ?
😀
So, what’s the deal with Team Yankee as a game? Is it just a modern era version of FoW?
Yes, basically. Its core rules are FoW 4th ed, but the armies are set in the period towards the end of the cold war. So you can run “what if” scenarios of the Warsaw Pact vs NATO, or you can refight the 1990 Gulf War.
The models are the real kit that was around at the time, with the addition of a few items that were in prototype etc, but never went into production, but may have done if WWIII had broken out in 1985.
You could also fight any what-if you care for set in the 1980’s. If you and you opponent both have the new British box set then why not fight out the English Civil War or Jacobite uprising set in the 80’s.
looks a good solid model.
I had bought a metal Challenger from another company but wasn’t happy with the sculpt and quality. So I’m quite pleased to see these nice new plastic kits.
Loving the Chally kit. Got the British starter set from OTT a couple of weeks back and went on an orgy of assembly and painting. Diddy wee cold war armour is da shiz! I’m thinking of an East German force next. May wait to see what other new starter sets come out though first.
Next up is USA I think followed by new soviets . My friend uses East Germans and it’s lot … of everything …. especially against my wear Germans
Actually, since I am running out of Frenchmen to paint I might switch to the Brits.
