Oh, baby! It's time to get our hands on the new Star Wars: Legion Core Box from Fantasy Flight Games.

In this box, you'll find everything you need to get an awesome game of Star Wars onto the tabletop. Dawn will be taking a look at the Rebel's and Gianna will be siding with Darth Vader on the Dark Side.
Which end of the force will you be siding with?

W00T! Embargo is over! Let the merch of the shinies…

Also, that speed cloth looks grand under the close up camera. Well chosen.

Not bad for a starter set. Do you get ‘enough’ dice? FFG usually sell you short on those special dice.
You have enough for the core box but not some of the expansions. For example, the AT-RT expansion you can depending what upgrades you use can roll up to 12 dice. Which means, you are rolling in sets. However, not a deal breaker if you are used to rolling in sets for other games. I pre-ordered a second set of dice just because I like to have two dice towers and not share dice because I find it speeds up play.
The minis look excellent! Not sure if there’s a lot conversion potential but still..
Great sculpts 😎
I’m sure I’ll be building and painting a lot of Stormtroopers in the foreseeable future 🙂
Great to see the complete box at last. Those stormtroopers are looking great.
The only downside is that us plebs still have over a month to wait to get our hands on them 🙁
I was already excited with Star Wars: Legions, and this unboxing show trebled my excitement even more. One or two more unboxings for the game and I´ll start getting a nervous tic. Need to see that robot medic then.
As for the faction it´s difficult to decide. So I´ll go for … er …. both.
A good starter set and as Dawn put it a good way to draw Star Wars fans (of which are many) into table-topping.
Hoping to see more of this summit of awesomeness I wish you a nice start of the week from over the pond.
The blue guy is a Chiss http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/chiss
I’m concerned about the way you carefully chose your wrods when describing the models and the plastic, and then by the huge gaps between the joins on the assembled pieces. Hopefully watching John talk through assembly and painting of a few will put my fears to rest. For me, this game will live or die on the quality of the models. Of course, a good game is important too.
Oops. He’s a Duros. I’m getting my blue guys mixed up. At least I didn’t say Andorian!
nothing wrong with Andorians, filthy pink skin … 😛
What I forgot to mention in this video is that we did not glue the arms in. I am not sure if I wanted to do some painting first or assemble them and then paint them as I was thinking maybe I would try different poses.
If you listen carefully now, you will hear many sighs of relief on this information. Viva Chicago.
Not sure I’m a fan of the mini’s so far, might change when I see them in the flesh or painted though. I do prefer my plastics on a sprue, but that’s just a minor annoyance I find.
Darth Vader is slow and understandably so. Have you ever seen him run in any of the films?
The component fit on the figures worries me – I expected better.
They actually fit together well. Like I mentioned we did not glue them as I wasn’t sure what we were going to do with them. Also in case we needed to do more video work to show them off we didn’t want to be stuck with them.
@stvitusdancern did say she did not glue most of the arms, if that makes a difference. The were dry fitted for the video.
Was watching the vid while killing a few pesty dark elves in total war. Did you mention whether this is plastic or resin? Can’t find by scrolling through vid.
They are plastic.
Thats good to know, thanks.
I played this at LVO and didn’t enjoy the game. I don’t like the X~wing game mechanics, play style or business model and this was just a modified version of that game. It does look nice, but it also felt like I was playing with the old Wizkids models which was very weird. I guess it’s hard to make Star Wars figures look fresh or different.
This game relies o your being willing to pay for the IP. Looking at expansions this is going to get expensive real fast. The game looks solid but nothing ground breaking. I found X-Wing to be based too much on the luck of dice rolls. I imagine playing Storm Troopers in this game will be quite frustrating.
it’s not that different from GW’s business model if we are honest.
The only difference is that non-gamers recognise the IP …
The figures look great . I’m not a game player , but a couple of Storm Trooper figure sets wouldn’t go amiss for a diorama I’m planning . How do you think arm swaps would work ? Would cutting the arm plugs allow them to fit other body styles , ie standing Trooper holding the rocket launcher ? Green Stuff will work on the gaps but are all the arm sets roughly the same width as the shoulders on the figures ?
That is my thought as well. Since we have some extra I was going to try and see how it goes.
I pre-ordered two starter boxes plus all the expansions and extra dice. I can’t wait to get my stuff in house and get started building.
I’ll be playing as Empire mostly, but will play Rebel when forced to. 🙂
I can’t wait till the non-Jedi/Sith commanders enter play. I’m looking forward to battles in the style of “Rogue One”.
Quick question for the BoW hosts that have played this already. Can you have an effective game play right now, if you leave out the Jedi/Sith?
Yes you can as there will be other heros. You could just play without them and might lose some buffs and special abilities.
So , it doesn’t use normal dice , and FFG screw it up again , oh well. I was so excited as well.
Those minis look better than I was expecting, thanks for the unboxing video. So jelly of that table it looks so nice.
Luke with no arms. You went there 🙂
There’s a blue guy in the campaign on Star Wars battlefront 2 called Shriv! Panic not about painting white! Trust me, I’m a guy on the internet, what could possibly go wrong? Step 1: white primer Step 2: varnish (whatever you fancy but gloss works best) Step 3: Humbrol enamel black wash (slap it on! Go ham!) Step 4: Neaten up with Q-tip/cotton buds dipped in clean/mineral/white spirit Step 5: Bask in hobby glory at awesome storm trooper! So easy to do but it takes a few days! But that’s pretty much all drying time between layers! You may wish… Read more »
looking fabulous ladies, love the new hair cuts.
the minis look better than i thought they would. a little bulkier than i’d like but simple clean sculpts like these can be made to look pretty impressive if you have the skills.
Dawn absolutely deserves a storm trooper tutorial from John.
glad to see you girls getting your STAR WARS on with a bit of Armada as well.
thanks for the comprehensive unboxing that Legion deserves
you need to re watch the clone wars animation series. Cad Bane the super cool Durosian bounty hunter and the agility of those walkers are all in there.
Thanks for the vid US beasties!
Love the starter box. Looking forward to getting my own.
Apologies if i have missed it but what is the scale comparison to Star Wars: Imperial assault. I know the AT-ST is bigger but are the troops on a par?
Looking very cool! Can’t wait to watch the let’s play.
Thanks ladies I have been trying to decide if I wanted to commit fully to 40K or Star Wars Legions and after viewing the content you have put out on Star Wars Legion I am going all in on this.
Thanks for the great content.
Hi Dawn
I enjoyed your unboxing of this game and I have gone Rebels as I brought the T-47 Air speeder but will look at going Imperial when I see what the snow troopers are like .
