Bolt Action Unboxing: Opel Blitz & Maultier
January 9, 2018 by johnlyons
Today John and Justin are looking at the Opel Blitz truck and Maultier half-track for Bolt Action from Warlord Games.
Thousands of Opel Blitz trucks were produced during the war and put to use transporting men and supplies. To deal with the sparse road network and muddy conditions of Russia they would later be converted to the Opel Maultier, or "Mule", which were fitted with a half-track.
This kit comes with the necessary components to make either the Opel Blitz or the Maultier variant. Seated in the back are 10 infantry models which, as John shows, can be built to be removed as the infantry embark and disembark the vehicle.
What do you think of this German soft-skin transport vehicle?
Ach Kamerad! Maultier ! Better read “Mawoolteer” 😉
Interesting video, as was the tangent! How does it compare to the Rubicon kits? That being said, having the crew is a big positive. On your tangent as regards to the nastier things the allies were capable of, I remember a good example in the mid to late 90’s when I was a kid. There was a neighbour of ours who had turned 100, so we blocked the road off and held a street party for her. An old gentleman (I won’t say his name) got completely wasted, him and the old codgers started to reminisce. Anyway, he started talking… Read more »
Looks a good kit. Must pick one or two up sometime
That´s been a long way from Opel Blitz and Maultier (better pronounced “mowl-tear”) to propaganda during your show. I enjoyed all of it. However, having seen the show it is going to be a very short way for me to a purchase of some of these kits. Hopefully there will be a pack containing three of them. I would use them as transports for my crack units. Let my opponent reveal his plan by moving about and then rush my units to a point of a possible breakthrough. Thank you by the way for the idea of not glueing the… Read more »
Yeah the German’s used Cavalry against the Eastern Partisans and for Police work. There might have been some recon units but if the First World War is anything to go by the Artillery and Supply trains basically steal/request any horse they can.
KNIS-PEL John, not KNIPSEL. Kurt was noted for refusing to claim credit for any scores that were shared with other tank commnders so his official total of 168 is an understatement – 195 is more likely and as per most of the Germans, they destroyed far more enemy anti-tank guns as those were considered a greater threat to the panzers.
Here is another reference to Knispel:

As for the Opel Blitz/Maultier kit – very nice! The passengers make a neat and useful addition.
nice a German Jones’s the butcher driving?
Yeah so that was about 5 minutes of talking about the truck and then phoooooommmm MASSIVE TANGENT! 🙂
Some interesting points raised but I must say guys, maybe just make a separate video if you want to chat about WW2 stuff? Could make a series out of it? From my experience, I’d say around 80% of historical wargamers have some sort of interest in WW2, so people would watch/comment on it- I know I certainly would) I just feel that video went majorly off topic seeing as it was supposed to be an unboxing for a German truck.
great chat buys
Nice looking kit, good choice of build options. Interesting chat tangent as well.
My anorak-osis has just kicked in…
*Pushes glasses up nose*
Actually, Maultier (German for mule) refers to any of the German cargo trucks built as half tracks, for the two ton variant Ford built approximately 14000, Opel 4000 and Klockner-Humboldt Deutz 2500. Daimler-Benz built approximately 1500 of a 4.5 ton version.
…I have tablets, but sometimes I just can’t stop it.
Nice kit and I found the other topic very interesting does anyone know what the Russian or Japanese posters were like. Did the SS have horse mounted troops as their are some models available on the warlord site and i’m sure i saw some in a old Battle comic long time ago 🙂
