Unboxing Hunger Games: Mockingjay The Board Game
July 31, 2019 by ludicryan
Ryan and Gerry get their revolutionary hats on to unbox Hunger Games: Mockingjay the Board Game from River Horse.
Based on the last book of the hit franchise from Suzanne Collins, the board game follows the conflict between the resistance and the Capitol led by President Snow. As an asymmetric game, it's already interested Ryan. Gerry likens it to the area control of Risk but with a revolutionary feeling.
Which is your favourite Hunger Games movie?

great to see thanks guys
I only liked the first movie but may check the game. Thanks for the unboxing guys!
I know what you mean. The first movie was interesting, but the sequels were crap. I thought the third movie terrible as basically nothing happens.
Same problem as the Matrix… good movie terrible sequels.
The first two Alien movies were good, the rest were crap.
And I expect the same of Avatar. The story of the giant smurfs was done. Any sequels (and I think he plans many) is just a cgi action movie.
Full consent here, but to be honest it is not exactly fault of the filmmakers here. In my opinion the books are similarly disappointing. The first one rides on unusual idea of hunger games themselves and vision of totalitarian, post-apocalyptic world, replays of the same concept in 2nd and 3rd tomes are great let downs and I find it really hard to find some positives or good “footholds” for movie screenplay.
Could be a nice Christmas game. I wonder are some of the meeples due to appear in an other game?
Hmm a Battle Royal mini game / rpg. Now there is a good idea.
And the surviving pair of kids would then have to fight Gerry armed with two Jerry cans as the final boss! …On second thought, the game would be unwinnable.
The Gerry Can is a sacred weapon of the elders. Its power too terrible to imagine…
. . . it does seem a strange decision to go with a strategy game based on Mockingjay. I do hope they try something with the first book/film as well as this.
an interesting looking game.
What an ugly gameboard.
The mix of sizes of minis is disturbing. I hate to admit it, but not every game is improved by inclduing minis. Some of those should not have been added. The game might even have been just as fine with pogs of the characters.
