Unboxing: Warhammer 40k – Lost Patrol
May 4, 2016 by dignity
We have a very special unboxing for you today; yes it's the Warhammer 40,000 board game Lost Patrol from Games Workshop.
The game has some rather fun mechanics concerning line of sight and some deadly Tyranid miniatures to go with it. It's a jungle out there and the whole place is an ever-changing hell!
What's Inside?
You get...
- 5x Space Marine Scouts
- 12x Genestealers
- 6x Infestations
- 30x Hex Tiles
- Full Rules Of Play
We're told it's almost impossible to win the game as the Space Marine Scouts but with Warren's Godly dice rolls, we might just do it!
What do you think of the Lost Patrol?

Did GW send a review copy over?
Yup, a nice review, …. but how?
Yes (Came as a bit of a surprise to us too if im honest)
I suppose the good thing about those C&D letters is they know your address.
I’m not surprised the new boss man appears to be pushing GW back into the real world.
Oh, and where is my 40k monday? 🙁
Tune in on monday 🙂 (There wasn’t much room for everything this week)
Wow… I am just going to say I called it.
The company has/is changing. I really want to watch through this right now… but I am so spent. This sucks, being the only Australian here, this stuff coming out at 12 midnight.
Ah well such is life, I will look at as something to look forward to wake up to 😀
They sent out review copies of AoS last summer (as well as advertising it externally), so this isn’t new. They didn’t send one to BoW though. Wonder if the 40K coverage has made a difference?
They actually sent AoS to “Watch it Played” in Canada, believe it or not. That guy ONLY does board games. Mantic also sent him Dungeon Saga so I guess they’re all pushing hard to get in on that market.
The little beast on the sprue is a ripper.
They normally from a swarm off 5 rippers on a base.
damnit!!!!!! i totally forgot about ripper swarms
need to get the nids on with AJ pronto!!!
Yep! Get AJ in the studio ASAP, I missed my 40k monday this week, @warzan ! 😉
Quick question for the BoW guys that I don’t think will spoil anything – do the different Genestealer bits, the tentacle mouth, bladed arms, etc have individual rules, or are they just there to add some variety to the models in this game?
In this game they just add to the models. The rules system is very simple and clear (also acts as a nice canvas for some home brew additions)
We’ll kick off the P’Vlog now in a few minutes
I was just talking with a buddy about this yesterday. One of the things I love with GW’s new box set thing they’ve got going on. If you have been collecting all of the boxed games in the last year you’ve already built a good core force for space marines.
A friend of mine alreasy ‘ordered’ this for his birthday. Played the old game once on both sides (won both times. It’s not impossible to win as scouts. Just bloody unlikely)
Can’t wait for what you’re gonna do with this. Should be a fun watch.
This one is on my “get this” list. I am sort of surprised I did not pick up the original release. There could be all sorts of expansions for the game system.
Great wee review!
the vid isn’t working guys?
That game actually looks pretty good!
Does it look like you could add homebrew rules to use Orks, Tau, Eldar, etc. instead of Space Marine Scouts too?
Yes, I’ll see if we can run up a couple of home brew options 🙂
the game looks good and sound like a fun game.
I live close enough to Nottingham to have seen a slow and steady change from Games Workshop. The new boss man over there have set them off in a new direction. Which seems to be a good thing. Good enough for my little gaming group to return to 40k . interested in Lost Patrol as a possible mini game for gaps between Campaign Games…..
