Unboxing: Bolt Action German Veteran Grenadier Squad
March 11, 2015 by dignity
We jump off our tanks and trudge ahead on foot armed with our STG44s as we march alongside a German Veteran Grenadier Squad for Bolt Action.
This boxed set of ten metal infantry from Warlord Games are all uniquely posed to allow Bolt Action players more variety with some wearing zeltbahn tent quarters while all are equipped with the Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle or STG44.
What camo pattern would you come up with for these guys?
Painted mine up last week! Will definitely be getting a 2nd squad
(Can only link as I can’t add a pic to the post)

Ist about time for that unboxing. I read this morning about the upcoming for These guy in Plastics 🙂
No. Actually it just had a slight accent, but John pronounced that pretty well…
what diameter bases are those? 30mm?
So there’s a running gag were commenters here like to point out John’s mistakes, Normally I think this is funny, but today this happened:
Herr Lyons: “If you fire single shot you still have like a 25 round Clip”
My Brain: “Magazine.”
“you went from a 5 round clip”
“magazine”
“to a 25 round clip”
“MAGAZINE”
And I realised I was one of them…
JFK not Ike.
Suggestion, use a file on the bases, not a needle file but a big one from you d.i.y. store 🙂
Justin’s favorite pose at 9:16 – “Time to Mash Some Potatoes!”
Good luck with painting these in the “Splinter” camo scheme. Sounds tough. Here’s hoping this squad doesn’t wind up in Romain’s “ER” trauma center.
The STG has a funny backstory. Hitler hated the STG and he didn´t get the idea behind. His Geberals saw the potential behind the gun and let the production start. Not to piss off Hitler and get shot they call it an MP. One day Hitler invited a sucessful officer over that came back from the russian front and asked him what he could do for him. The officer said : “Give me more of These guns!”. “What guns?” “The MP 44” Hitler was quite stunned because he had no idea the army had an MP 44. So Hitler got… Read more »
I agree, a decent sized file does the trick. That or some rough grit sand paper on a flat surface. In both cases move the mini, not the file/paper.
If you have to do hundreds of them think about the belt-sander, otherwise leave it in the cupboard… unless you like having minis embedded in the wall!
Guys, enjoyed the unboxing and want to add a unit of these to my “Defense of Berlin” German army list. I really enjoy the fact you have go back to build the models after unboxing. I enjoy seeing this as it helps me with my choices if I might want to buy or not. Keep up the good work.
You two…
… Are bloody bonkers.
( Keep it up. )
No desire to play bolt action, but am going to be getting WWII German and Marine infantry/vehicles for my 40k IG army. And these are a must have, I love the look of the STG as it looks so much like an AK. Only thing better is if they were a plastic kit >.>
@cazboab I was doing the same damn thing lol
great unboxing guys made me laugh, and the figs look awesome 🙂
When are we finally going to see some of the guys’ Armies that they have been working on? After the big Drop zone Boot camp I hope!
Would love to see both of your takes on splinter in a mini paint off. It would give a certain Frenchman something to cluck at, just saying.
Best unboxing ever.
@johnlyons you formed and pronounced that very well. I was even more impressed with the quiter sentence (nearly vanished in the background) “Das sind deutsche Soldaten.”
Just started painting this set myself and it’s fantastic. Found very little flash on them and loving the accuracy they have!
