Unboxing Foundry: Saxons Starter Warband
January 1, 2020 by avernos
Gerry springs into the new year with some Saxons from Wargames Foundry.
Perfect for Saga, Gerry is looking at one of the warband boxes from Foundry which comes equipped with several of the finest metal miniatures. With a variety of poses and options for these Saxon warriors, it's only a matter of time before Lloyd claims them for his SAGA force!
What games are you looking forward to most this coming year?

I’ve used Foundry figures in a few projects and never been less than delighted with them. Sure they’re a bit old-school now but they are utterly wonderful.
I quite like these. Any thoughts on how they might fit in with the plastic Saxons from Victrix? They seem like they could add a lot of character to a larger Anglo Saxon army.
Can’t comment on size, but their style is rather different. OTOH from three feet away different historical ranges fit together a lot better than some people think.
That is true enough, but it can vary. The old metal Germanic heroes from Warlord look quite nice leading the Victrix warbands…even hulking, which I guess you might except given the way early Germans chose their war leaders. The Warlord Germanic tribesmen, besides suspiciously resembling their Celts, are a little smaller than Victrix, but two warbands side by side at any distance look just fine. Maybe the… Read more »
On the other other hand, trying to make every warrior unique in a standard 32-man Hail Caesar Germanic warband might make me a bit loony.
Yeah. At that size, they’re a regiment more than any individuals. Just mix up the colours and you’re grand.
It was actually pretty easy making individuals with the Victrix bag o’ 60 ancient Germans and the same with Warlord adding in their various small box sets of warriors, tribesman wearing stolen Roman gear, etc. Now if they would just paint themselves…
For such old figs. they stack up rather well. Perhaps new moulds have been generated from the old masters. I will be getting these sometime soon. Gerry, are the spears copper coated steel, rather than brass?
I’ll check when I’m back in tomorrow,
Those are still really nice figures. I am going to have to look into their other figures.
Great looking traditional metal figures.
Nice Saxons. Would be good for a game. Let’s take SAGA as an example…
Good to see Foundry getting some on-screen love. Nice, characterful sculpts. Exactly the kind of thing I enjoy painting.
I’m digging these. Nice old school look and who doesn’t love a mini with a little weight to it. Nice!
I really like Foundry miniatures, and have several in my collection. These are a nice set
