Unboxing: Super Dungeon Explore – Forgotten King
July 28, 2015 by dignity
Justin's returning to the dungeon and he's taking John with him as they seek to tackle more foes in Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King from Soda Pop Miniatures & Ninja Division.
From Audrey II tributes to Duck Platypus Warriors and beyond this box is stuffed to the gills with impressive looking miniatures straight out of the box. I imagine when they're painted they will look stunning.

there are two type of small cards purple AI deck for arcade mode and green one for dungeon board effects. The rules are in book classic(consule) and arcade(AI consule) books. the explorers book holds world background fuff
I’m a huge fan of SDE. As @darkspi says, the purple stat cards are for the new fully co-op mode. The rules have had an update with Forgotten King so whilst you can use all the previous tiles and minis, you’ll need an upgrade deck to port the minis over in the new format. For new players, you can just pick up FK and have everything you need.
You guys missed one type of monster but they tend to blend in with the others so it is forgivable. The set comes with two little plant girls that like to cast spells. You can see one in the artwork above the centaur and platypus guy. I sort of want to see the whole set painted. maybe you guys can get some other folks to paint what John and Roman do not. It would be fun to see some gameplay videos. I want to see what @elromanozo can do with the alchemist and her many flasks. Oh and @johnlyons, This… Read more »
Awewome paintjob
My set is nearly painted. I will post on the forum when it is :3
Oh no another must have. Sooooo cute.
Love the game. Minis are really nice.
For someone who has never played SDE, is this the one to start with at this point in time?
Yes
Shame. Been looking at getting a copy of the original game for a while but not such a fan of the miniatures in this one. Obviously will get it all eventually but puts me off buying the original one quite a bit.
That looks so awesome.
I would enjoy it very much to see a video of the BoW gang playing this or some other similar dungeon crawl board game. There are frequent references to how each staffer is as a gamer, but the site has very few actual videos showing anyone playing anything that isn’t a demo game, and almost never playing against other staff. Its always against a very genial, patient, game designer. I would love to see the gang sit down for a video of playing SDE or Imperial Assault together. Or any kind of beer and pretzels multiplayer game. You can call… Read more »
I agree! It would be great to see the gang play a none demo game^^!
I really need to give this game a shot.
The miniatures do look amazing, but when played it as the dungeon master it felt very repetitive and boring, i’m sure it was because i didn’t apply all the rules as i should or because it was the first time i’d played it and we tried to much at the same time. But i’m gonna give it a few more oportunities because i feel it has a lot of potential.
Looks great! Painting wise the Mage has to be the one, or the highwayman please.
Brilliant game to play with the kids
Amazing, I’ll love to get it. where can I go and how much???
Brother G
I have the first game and it’s fun to play. Want to get this version now.
Great looking game.
I would really like to see the happy, girl, mage with potions painted up.
Ok, at this point I think we have a reasonable expectation to see a painted Demon Centuar Girl and a full game of the BoW crew playing, not just a rules demo. Make it happen! 🙂
At 17:00, John vows that if we vote for Romain to paint the centaur figure . . .
“I will find you!”
Okay, I officially vote for Romain to paint the centaur figure. 😀
Hey, if that’s what it takes for John to come visit my house? I’ll have a cold beer waiting for you and I’ll show you the best beaches in Fort Lauderdale.
Okay, seriously, I want John to paint that centaur. She will probably wind up with schurzen plates and “Ambush ’44” camouflage.
I’d love to see Romain paint on one of the many version of Candy and Cola that are available for the game, maybe the ninja one?
Those minis are too cute and creepy. I love the details on the plant creatures. And the Frank (Donnie Darko) cameo is just scary.
I’d like Romain to have a go at the very happy healer girl. Would like to see how he tackles liquids and glass on the many bottles she carries.
The boards of this and the previous version a slightly different in size.
I bet I’ll get a bunch of thumbs down for this… but I just can’t stand the Chibi style. I guess Chibi is one of those things; you either like or you hate it.
