Bolt Action Unboxing: Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind
August 22, 2017 by johnlyons
This week John and Justin take us through the Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind for Bolt Action from Warlord Games.
The Wirbelwind or Whirlwind was a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun utilising the Panzer IV chassis.
Armed with a quad-barreled Flakvierling 38 on an open-topped turret, the Whirlwind was capable of firing a devastating 800 rounds per minute.
The five man crew consisted of a commander/gunner, two loaders, a driver, and a radio operator.
Will you be adding anti-air support in your campaigns?
Nice review . Was really hoping Warlord would have remolded the Pzr IV hull though , the small exhaust should be gone from the rear plate ( no turret motor ) , you don’t need the 75mm cleaning rods on the engine deck side , instead there were a couple of boxes for spare 20mm barrels . Inside the turret the ammo racks held 8 mags a side not 4 as molded ,( its a little tight in there so I;ll give them as pass . ) IRC most of these tanks reused older hulls which had remains of zimmerit… Read more »
So, first of all hello after a long time @dignity and @johnlyons This was quite interesting when it comes to Porsche I did not know the part about the Maus AA gun. The presented model is really god looking 🙂
The Wirbelwind in Boltaction is a Monster!!! Each 20 mm gun is a Light Autocannon with 2 shots each…having a Pen value of +2 firing solid shots…thats 8 shots against Light tanks and soft skins. Against infantry you choose to shoot with HE with a 1″ template and again with 2 shots each, this time with a pen of +1, causing d2 pins…There will not be much of the enemy unit left!…Couple it with a 6 shot MMG in the hull and it rips units apart with a massive volley of shots. Combine it with a Pak 38 or 40… Read more »
a great detailed looking model.
Yeah. I think the stat card is misleading. It lists the autocannon stats, but this has 4 autocannons. So, 8 shots, +1 pen, 1 inch blast
