Bolt Action Unboxing: British Airborne Jeep
September 5, 2017 by johnlyons
We're talking Jeeps today as John and Justin unbox the British Airborne Jeep for Bolt Action from Warlord Games.
With 640,000 Jeeps being produced during World War II, they are the most commonly owned ex-military vehicle in private ownership. One of them being John's very own 'Dixie'!
Their relatively light weight meant they could be transported in gliders like the Waco CG-4, and with top speeds around 55-60 mph they were highly effective in fast hit-and-run attacks.
Do you have any awesome Jeep war stories?
one of this days Jone need to make a series of vid talking about the vehicles he have restore
Slight correction for John. The issue in Saving Private Ryan didn’t have to do with the jeep. A 1/4 ton jeep actually weighs about 2000lbs empty, which is roughly equivalent to only 8 or so fully loaded paratroopers. The problem for the glider in the movie was the glider was transporting a General (I am assuming it was his jeep), and to protect him, they welded a steel plate to the bottom of the glider for “protection” and didn’t tell the pilot until takeoff. The massive weight of the steel plate (and its affect on the planes flight characteristics) cause… Read more »
Well remembered!
I love when they go off on a tangent.
Oh and change the numbers of that jeep.
When the war came to an end and it was time to rotate home at least one jeep that had the numbers changed was sold by the detachment to a French farmer for a weekend of relaxation and home cooking. Now somehow the unit had the same jeep from DDay to the end, or they had 4 jeeps with the same number after stealing them whenever they saw one that ran better than theirs.
Cheers guys on a great video.
Great unboxing, even better rambling.
Great to see an unboxing with tangents and historical background thrown in, @Warzan we like that aspect of the WW2 unboxings by John. Should never have stopped those being a part of these.
I have an awesome Jeep story. In the 70s we lived at Ft. Riley in Kansas (home of the 1st Infantry Division The Big Red One) and my dad owned a Viet Nam era Jeep. It was the vehicle that we went to see Star Wars in at the Drive In theater. We used to take it out on the tank trails throughout the base. It ended up getting stolen and the MPs found it in the pet cemetery without its tires. It didn’t have a key ignition just a start switch. My dad then used a 20-pound chain to… Read more »
Good review chaps, my next order from warlord is definitely having one of these jeeps dropped into the cart!
