John get's a good look at this 28mm metal miniature rendition of this famous paratrooper. Popularised by John Wayne in The Longest Day, Vandervoort broke his ankle upon landing in Normandy but still managed to lead his battalion in defending the town of Sainte-Mère-Église.

Hmm, this is tempting as i play US Paratroops for bolt action ( also Fallschrimjaeger and Red Devils and Japanese Paratroopers…) something about jumping out of a plane. You need to attack since you can not defend ( if you do, you should not be jumping out of a plane to begin with )

Good looking mini! As a side note…………Benjamin H. Vandervoort was not happy that the studio chose John Wayne to play his roll in the movie the ‘Longest Day’. The Duke was already 55 years old when the movie was shot and Vandervoort was only 27 during his landing at DDay. Not very realistic in the eyes of the real Lieutenant Colonel. Also, “Vandy” was not over 6′ tall like John Wayne, nor was he as broad at the shoulders. Also, Vandervoort enlisted in the US Army as boots on the ground private in 1937. Not bad to reach Lt.
