Unboxing: Forge World Thanatar Siege-Automata

Dave joins Justin in the studio as he's brought some goodies with him for us to drool over. First off it's the massively impressive Thanatar Siege-Automata from Forge World.
The Thanatar is designed by the Mechanicum to be an artillery platform and it certainly shows as this beast has resting on its broad shoulders a Hellex pattern plasma mortar which sounds all kinds of deadly.
With a weapon that size you know it's going to rain down destruction on a devastating scale.

Neat unboxing chaps – love the look of the Mechanicum stuff from Forge World, well their walkers and such at least.
It’s probably due to the colour scheme but at first glance I assumed this was a Warmachine mini. That’s not a bad thing though.
So that’s what Dead Dave looks like. 🙂 Looks a great model – would love to see it on the tabletop. Cheers for bringing it in.

I’m not sure what impresses me more – the kit or Dave’s beard. Sadly with my hair type I could never grow a beard that badass. Cool to see BoW members in videos like that.

Well I for one am impressed by the cleanness of this forge world piece. We used to liken them to an artists quote I can’t remember which one we used to describe anything produced by Forge World at the time. Basically take a lump of Resin as supplied, and remove all the stuff that does not look like a ( …..insert name of forge world model ).
We once weighed the stuff we took of a super heavy and it turned out to be super light, I recall it being more than 6oz of scrap material. Happy hacksaw days.

Really like this bot, but why does it have to look so exposed in the back?
I was thinking that myself, but I suppose its role as a siege unit means that the extra weight of armour at the rear was unnecessary.
